Welcome back, Scribes! It's been almost two weeks since 1.0 dropped and we've been blown away by the enthusiasm and support for Vellum. Thank you!

Today - we're channeling our own 1.0 excitement into Interlude Patch: In Circulation!

This update includes Circulate: a new Movement Spell, Performance and QOL Upgrades, Book Club Reward Updates, Vignette Secrets, an Ascendant Rewards Adjustment, Raid Tuning, Photosensitivity Mode and many bug fixes.

New Movement Spell - Circulate

Go for a leisurely scroll...

Build momentum with mounting anticipation and a trusty Scroll - then zoom off into and through your foes with the first Movement Spell to have baseline damage!

What wild combos will you skillfully scrawl into existence? Use the new Pages of Power and clever strategy to show the Torn what 'doom-scrolling' really looks like!

Vignette Secrets?

Intrepid adventurers may have noticed some extra secrets and rewards in the various Vignettes found within the Tomes. Sometimes these hidden rewards give new Pages of Power, Temp Mana, or other useful statuses.

I dare not speak further of such secrets - only to say that previously secret-lacking Vignettes are now up to date with something more to discover. Happy hunting!

Performance and Quality of Life

Performance and quality of life have been top of mind for us since the 1.0 launch! With today's Interlude Patch, we're taking a more ink-laden pen to performance! Many of the wild interactions between mechanics in Vellum come down to core building blocks: Projectiles, Areas of Effect, Statuses, and Augments. Improvements in this patch aim to smooth out each of these pillars' performance - both in solo and multiplayer games!

We've also made a number of networking changes and upgrades aimed at improving the stability and synchronization of your team-up scribbling adventures!

Elsewhere, in the realm of Quality of Life - we're directly addressing feedback in a few key areas: we're adding new toggles for photosensitivity and visual effect intensity, we've clarified language and tutorials in the beginning of the game and throughout the Binding/Attunement/Ascendant processes, and smoothing out other experience-impacting bugs!

Reward Upgrades - Book Club & Ascendant Progress

The Book Club is now more rewarding! From now on, you'll be able to gain a first-time 500 Quillmark + Gilding bonus from playing new Book Club challenges - the perfect way to spice up your journey as a Scribe. Because Book Club challenges are ink-level-agnostic, tackling the Book Club right after Ascending may be a great way to kickstart your level-ups! On that topic...

Ascending is now more clear, no longer restricts Tome access, and will now allow multiple Bindings to drop at once when Over-binding Tomes! As a bonus - Ascendant Scribes also start with 500 Quillmarks to more flexibly reignite their journey!

Ascending in Vellum is designed to be an optional way to continue playing the game - we want it to be rewarding and fun, but not feel like a mandatory part of your journey. We'll continue to keep an eye on this system - let us know what you think!

Raid Tuning

We're adjusting and improving many aspects of the Torn Raids - from multiplayer scaling and boss ability frequency to visual telegraphs and Codex hints. Full details are in the patch notes below, but Araxiom, The Taking Tree, Styxen, and both Torn Lords have all received adjustments.

Quillmark and Gilding rewards have also been increased to help celebrate your victories!

Tire Fire Rally - Jackdaw
Tire Fire Rally exists in a large part because, like a little kid, I have fun drawing cars. So, I'm channeling that childish urge into new content for the game.

This week, I'm adding three new vehicles to the list the player can choose from.



First of all, I've fixed up the (previously broken) taxi from the promotional pictures. Feel free to turn off the sound and play The Offspring in the background while you zoom around in the Unstable Taxi.



Second on the list is a car I am calling the GT 2024. It looks like a car someone would drive along a long highway in a Viagra commercial, or James Bond would steal and crash in the Brosnan era. Perfect for driving into tunnels, or through a canyon.



Third is the White Steed. Ideal for your impromptu freeway jaunt on a sunny afternoon after you definitely didn’t murder your wife. All of these jokes are old, but probably so is my target audience.

Galactic Getaway: Build a Home for Pets - squishguin
Hi everyone sorry for the long wait but we're finally releasing the big pet update! I'm really excited about the changes this update brings as I think it really focuses the game on what everyone has found the most fun; pets! Here's a list of what's new and what's changed.

New
  • Pet Station - Befriending your creatures will now make them residents of your planet instead of just being put away in storage. Residents will roam your planet and interact with one another. The Pet Station is where you can manage what pets you want to keep around. The storage is still there to keep any pets that overflow the station. Upgrades to the station size will be coming in a future update.
  • Feeding - Feed your pets to increase the new PetPak level. There are no longer star levels for each PetPak but a level 1-100 for each slot on your pet. Without revealing too much, I can say that PetPaks now work on a whole new system. This means recipes have changed for PetPaks and so you will have to discover them all over again. Each pet whether befriended or hatched will have different comptabilities with different PetPaks. Feeding items and PetPaks will now show up in the indicator when you get close to pets.
  • Eggs! - Get your pets to romance and lay an egg! Hatch the egg to get a pet that inherits traits from its parents. Certain pet colors can only be obtained through romancing!
  • Pet Naming - You can now name your pets! Pet names can be a maximum of 12 characters.
  • The Tutorial - The entire beginning of the game has changed to focus more on pets and the idea that building on your planet will attract more.
  • Rain - There is a chance that you will get rain periodically. Rain will automatically water all of your crops.
  • Virtual Keyboard - A custom virtual keyboard to help with all the issues we have been having with the Steam Deck. Official verified steam dec

Changes
  • One True Grid - all of the items in the game now work on the same grid (buildings, crops, furniture, etc.) This will allow you to put machines in your home. Also this includes better position snapping for fences.
  • Pet Visit Conditions - There are many more pet visit conditions than just planting crops. I'll leave these for you to figure out!
  • Pets have animations for chopping down trees, smashing meteors, and sitting.
  • Crops - The grow time for crops has been fixed so they no longer grow instantly. Crops will also now grow even while you're away from your planet. You will still need to water each growth stage.
  • The minimap now shows you a live view so it's always up to date.

Bug Fixes
  • Fashion Show - The camera will no longer turn black and you should be able to play the game normally.
  • Planet color changes correctly when going to another player's planet
  • Travel Fallback - when you connect to a planet code that doesn't exist the game now puts you back where you came from with a network error message.
  • Camera app crash should now be fixed
