Patch notes for the demo incoming! The big focus this week is on fixing the game hangs due to bad gugs.

Highlights:

  • Added a couple of guiding arrows to help new players

  • Encounter round widget moved to bottom left for easier readability

  • Gug abilities now vary in complexity more

  • Quality of Life improvements:

    • The loading screen is now more interesting

    • The initial game load should now be shorter

    • Gug generation is now faster and fails less often

    • Removed game hitch after selecting a reward

    • Moving a gug to the same spot is no longer an action and will not affect the undo button

    • Enemy gugs now come in on a smoother difficulty curve

  • Lots of bug fixes:

    • Gug abilities are no longer getting duplicated

    • Gug abilities no longer work after frying

    • Biome intro and pause screens no longer have incorrect gug images from time to time

    • Special gugs now appear in the biome intro and pause screens

    • The UI should no longer break on resolution change

    • Encounter ability pop ups now show for enemy gugs present on the screen initially

    • Removed visual jank when undoing actions and fixed issues with undoing cancelled actions

♟ ChessBlaze 1.2 – Content Update ♟


After a few months since version 1.1, we're excited to announce a major new update to ChessBlaze!

Update 1.2 is bigger than ever—packed with new content, revamped systems, and a ton of fixes to improve your experience.

Menu Redesign

The old menu is gone! (almost gone)

The new interface is more intuitive and visually appealing. Key improvements include:

  • Expanded Settings options

  • Skin Selection improvements

  • Completely rebuilt Custom Lobby Creation tools

  • Steam Friend Integration – Invite friends directly via Steam!

Upgraded Single-player Mode

The AI has received a major overhaul—now faster, more stable, and smarter (but don’t worry, the easier bots are still beatable!).

Several Multiplayer game modes are now available in Single-player.

Power Mode is not available in Single-player yet, but we’re working on it for a future update.

Language Support Completed
All in-game content is now fully translated into:
  • 🇩🇪 German

  • 🇵🇱 Polish

  • 🇯🇵 Japanese

We also fixed numerous typos and mistranslations. If any still sneak through, we’ll catch them in upcoming updates.

More languages are planned in the future!

New Game Modes
Two brand new game modes are now live in both Single-player and Multiplayer:

  • Blaze Mode

    • Introduces Energy Tiles: Step on one to regenerate energy and reduce cooldown for your piece’s next move

  • Shape-shift Mode

    • Capture = Transform

    • Your piece transforms into whatever it captures

    • One of our most chaotic modes yet!

New Visual Tutorial

We’ve replaced our placeholder tutorial with a new visual walkthrough.

It’s not perfect yet, but it's a big step toward helping new players get into the game more smoothly.

New Skins & Achievements

We’ve added a ton of new achievements—check the in-game achievement page for the full list!


Skins are now achievement-locked! Unlock new cosmetics by progressing in the game.

Bug Fixes... A LOT of Bug Fixes
We've squashed a lot of bugs in this update:
  • Fixed server connection issues

  • Fixed lobby-breaking bug after unexpected disconnects

  • Fixed Steam profile pictures crashing the game

  • Fixed Slime Piece textures

  • Fixed numerous Pre-move bugs

  • Fixed bug where captured moving pieces could glitch

  • Resolution settings now actually apply correctly

  • Fixed AI freezing in Single-player

  • Fixed random victory screens

  • Fixed bug where new players couldn't play Single-player before trying Multiplayer

many bugs still await unnoticed, thats why before releasing version 1.3, bug fixes updates will also be released

Final Note

ChessBlaze doesn’t yet have a huge player base, but we’re hoping this update will start changing that. We truly appreciate everyone who continues to support the game!

💾 Credits Now Save Between Sessions

• This was a requested feature by players — thank you!

• Your credits will now persist when quitting and restarting the game.

• In Hard difficulty, the card counter is now hidden!

• You’ll have to keep track of your total manually — just like at a real blackjack table.

Seconds Till Destruction - Zdann

Bonjour!

Another update for you this week, addressing some more feedback I've gotten and adding a few things. Here are the main highlights.

First off, Seconds Till Destruction is now translated into French, courtesy of Penelope "J.Mad" Wintringer! Now more people will be able to experience the joys of blowing up in 6 seconds.

(Note: One of the new features hasn't been fully translated yet, since I added it on short notice and didn't want to delay the patch for it. It should be translated soon!)

Next up, I've done some tweaks to the Mutator Roulette HUD elements.

The description that pops up in-between rooms now appears slightly faster and stays on screen slightly longer, which will hopefully give you a bit more time to read the description.

Of course, I know reading a wall of text in a fast-paced game isn't ideal, so I also added a HUD element showing the currently active mutator. Most of the names should be self-explanatory.

The Big Bullets mutator makes bullets bigger, I think.

Finally, I've added a brand new Accessibility option called "Hold To Fire". Instead of having to repeatedly press the fire button for semi-auto weapons, you can just hold the button down. If you find it difficult to button mash or don't want to torture your mouse, give it a shot!

You can find it at the bottom of the Accessibility Options!

Balancing & Tweaks

Sawblade Launcher

  • Increased projectile lifetime to 3s (from 2.5s).

This should make the Sawblade Launcher more reliable in open rooms with less opportunities for the projectiles to ricochet. As for smaller rooms, have fun.

Crossbow

  • Slightly reduced projectile length.

This is technically a nerf, but this was mostly intended to prevent weird edge cases with collision. The previous length made it possible to graze enemies at weird angles, and it also prevented it from working properly with the Ricochet Rounds mutator.

Dash Slow-Mo (Mutator)

  • Increased default Slow-mo Time to 0.4s (from 0.25s)

Mutator Roulette uses the default values for mutators with adjustable options, so this will make it more noticeable. The previous duration was too short to do much with it.

Ricochet Rounds (Mutator)

  • Increased Additional Ricochets cap to 10 (from 5).

More ricochets are fun. I waive any responsibility if you blow up your computer with this.

Additions
  • Updated the localization files.

  • Added a French localization courtesy of Penelope "J.Mad" Wintringer.

  • Added a new HUD element to Mutator Roulette that shows the currently active mutator.

  • The mutator description in Mutator Roulette now stays on screen slightly longer and appears slightly sooner.

  • Added the "Hold To Fire" accessibility option. It allows you to hold the fire button to shoot semi-auto weapons.

  • You can now rotate your character during the "warp-in" animation. This also fixes an annoying bug when trying to shoot at the start of a floor.

Fixes
  • Fixed the "2valves" and "pillars" rooms not being symmetrical. (Literally unplayable.)

  • Fixed the "wing", "diamond", and "rocketship" rooms having bad enemy spawns, causing enemies to get stuck spinning in place. (If you spot any more spinning guys, please report them. They must be stopped.)

  • Fixed the Mutator Roulette HUD animation still playing while paused.

  • Fixed the "Game Over" screen not staying centered at really weird vertical resolutions.

  • Fixed the "Game Over" background not fully covering the screen.

Hi everyone!

As promised, we’re delivering more bug fixes in today's release - addressing many of the remaining less critical issues. Thank you for your bug reporting!

To spice it up a little, we've also added a new ladder-climbing feature, now allowing you to seamlessly walk onto locomotives to climb up, without jumping. You can also climb ladder-equipped cars and buildings, adding to the immersion. For the full listing of what's new, please see:

Terrible Life Expectancy - Super Mega Team

Our work in the game continues at a good pace and we just implemented another set of weapons and one of our favourites are the landmines. They are specially lovely to deal with big groups of mutants on narrowy streets and are a lot of fun.
