After an incredibly impressive performance throughout the year, culminating in an extremely successful run through the World Championship, Jking7 has conquered all his opponents and stands victorious as the KARDS 2022 World Champion! Jking7 makes KARDS history as the first consecutive, two-time holder of the title of KARDS World Champion!

The runner-up for the KARDS 2022 World Championship is Head. After a valiant fight for the top spot, Head wasn’t able to build up the momentum he needed, being defeated in that final series 3-0 by Jking7. Head is followed by Berto Burrito in third place, who was defeated by Head after an incredibly hard fought series that went all 5 games where, after winning his first two matches, Berto Burrito just couldn’t find the win with his Soviet Self Damage deck. In fourth place we have Bamboo who couldn’t catch a break with his deck lineup, being the first player to exit the Grand Finals.

As such, the bracket stands like this after the KARDS 2022 World Championship Grand Finals:

Our sincerest congratulations to our new KARDS World Champion, Jking7, as well as all of the participants in the top 4 Grand Finals. All our grand finalists have proven their skill and dedication to KARDS throughout the World Championship and earned their share of the $10,000 prize pool.

We thank everyone who participated in the World Championship by playing, watching, or otherwise interacting with this annual event. The KARDS 2022 World Championship has been filled with some amazing matches, awesome plays and tons of excitement - we are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us in creating this unforgettable event!

You can read more about the Chinese Invitational tournament in the dev blog: Chinese Invitational Tournament: This Saturday!

孙笑川258 reigned victorious in the Chinese Invitational, claiming victory and the lion’s share of the $5000 prize pool, following a series of intense games against CCMS-031. In second place was CCMS-031, with Fenrir coming in third, and cu元素收集大师 coming in fourth place.

Dearest players,

It’s time to continue going over the UI changes we are working on and in this part we will again be looking at one of the main menu buttons, CARDS and a brand new deck building interface.

In part 1 of this series of devblogs on the upcoming UI changes we explored the Home screen. Then, we talked about the PLAY button in part 2. Now, let’s take a closer look at the CARDS button.

When you press the CARDS button, you will get access to the following screens:

1. DECKS:

Swipe or scroll up/down for your list of decks.

  • Click/tap any of the decks to edit the deck via the new deck editor/builder (more below on this).

  • Click/tap the empty deck slot with + to create a new deck.

    • Select custom deck (default).

    • Or Prebuilt deck (if you own any).

New deck editor/builder

This is probably the biggest change we will cover in this blog. The whole layout of the deckbuilder will be changed. While the current version of our deck builder works, we've always felt it could benefit from a fundamental overhaul and improvements. This has also been the feedback we've gotten from the community from early on. The main things we want to achieve with the new layout are:

  • Accessibility - being easy to understand and pick up quickly.

  • An improved deck overview (seeing a bigger part of your deck in the process).

  • A more suitable and consistent UI for mobile.

  • Various improvements for power users (especially on desktop).

The new deckbuilder is split into 3 main areas:

1. Top bar - Deck builder variant.

  • Show all (unowned cards included)

  • Wildcard overview.

  • Magnifying glass for search (expands on clicking/tapping)

  • Filters (on mobile we don’t have as much space to show all the filters on the front, so they are all grouped together in a filter panel. On desktop, most will still be available from the front.)

2. Collection - Filtered by the nations in the deck. Scroll or swipe up/down to view all the cards. Click/tap on any card for details, history and the ability to create cards with wildcards.

3. Deck - Cards shown stacked vertically in a separate panel on the right. Part of the top bar also belongs to the deck part.

2. PACKS

Click here to open your unopened packs. Currently this section works pretty much as before on the desktop version but is slightly different on mobile. However, we will be upgrading the pack opening experience much more in the near future.

3. COLLECTION

Here, the layout changes much in the same way as in the deck builder. Instead of the deck on the right, that panel is dedicated to filters exclusively.

There are of course a lot more details we could go into but I believe this covers the main changes and reasoning behind them. In the next blog in this series we will look at some changes we are working on within the battle scene itself which will affect the game itself the most so stay tuned.

As always, let us know what you think about the changes highlighted here in the comments below or on the KARDS Discord. Your feedback is very valuable!

The Grand Finalists

For the Grand Finals, four of the most skilled and dedicated KARDS players in the world meet each other on the battlefield of KARDS for the ultimate title of World Champion!

Bamboo

Bamboo is a veteran of the game with extensive KARDS experience. He has frequently reached high positions on the seasonal ladder and competed in numerous OCC Qualifiers and KARDS Opens tournaments. His first appearance on the main stage of KARDS eSports was during the top 6 Grand Finals Qualifier stream for the 2022 World Championship. This rising star is in peak form and is ready to give his fellow competitors a run for their money.

Berto Burrito

With numerous successful runs in KARDS Opens and OCCs, including two OCC wins, Berto Burrito is a regular in the KARDS eSports scene. It’s no secret that Berto was brought to the game by his good friend and reigning KARDS World Champion, Jking7. Now, this Canadian hopes to take the title away from his fellow countryman and claim it for himself. Berto was able to beat Jking7 during their matches in the top 6 - only time will tell how he will fare if he faces Jking again in the Grand Finals.

Head

Compared to his opponents, Head is a relative newcomer to KARDS, but one that has shown extreme dedication to the game and risen to the top at lightning speed. Head has participated in numerous KARDS Opens and OCCs where he has had some impressive performances. Although he has yet to win a tournament, Head is coming in hot and is well prepared for what’s ahead.

Jking7

As the KARDS 2021 World Champion, Jking7 returns to the 2022 World Championship with a title to defend. Consistently securing top spots on the seasonal ladder, with several KARDS Open and OCC wins and a plethora of other high placements during KARDS tournaments, Jking7 is a titan in the KARDS eSports scene. Jking7 is also a KARDS streamer Jking0739, allowing those interested to get a glimpse into the mind of the reigning World Champion. The question that remains is: can Jking7 win the title of KARDS World Champion for the second year in a row?

Make sure you tune in to the World Championship Grand Finals show this weekend and find out who will be crowned the 2022 KARDS WORLD CHAMPION!

Hello everyone!

The Chinese Invitational tournament will be held THIS Saturday, November 26th!

The Tournament

The Chinese Invitational tournament is a special tournament event announced shortly before last year’s World Championship Grand Finals in the dev blog: Announcing your 2021 KARDS World Championship Grand Finalists

Last year, due to Covid restrictions, three of our Grand Finalists were unable to make it to Iceland to play in the Grand Finals, a prerequisite for playing in the 2021 World Championship. However, we were extremely impressed by their achievements and wanted to make sure they were recognized. As such, we decided to host this special edition invitational tournament for the top World Championship candidates from the Chinese community with a prize pool of $5000!

The Chinese Invitational tournament will feature the three players unable to make it to Iceland for the 2021 World Championship Grand Finals, as well as a legend of the game from the Chinese community: Fenrir!

Participants

CCMS-031

Having risen from relative obscurity during the 2020 World Championship, CCMS-031 proved himself as one of the top minds of KARDS through his dominant performance in the 2020 Grand Finals, securing himself the coveted title of KARDS 2020 World Champion. Now, he’s back to prove his skill and take home first place in the invitational.

cu元素收集大师

With a historical record as a strong tournament player, cu元素收集大师 has shown his ability through securing multiple appearances in tournament playoffs and fighting his way to some of the top spots in the 2020 and 2021 World Championships. Cu元素收集大师 is ready to put his name down in the KARDS history books with a win in the invitational.

孙笑川258

A veteran of the draft queue, 孙笑川258 conquered most challenges in the draft queue before starting to make a splash within the KARDS competitive scene in 2021. He was quick to make his mark on the scene and showed his clear talent as a player. Proving his talent against some of the most skilled players in the Chinese community, a win in the invitational would be a sure way of ensuring that his mark is a permanent one.

Fenrir

Fenrir is a longstanding KARDS player having started playing well before the game was released. He appeared in the Grand Finals top 4 in Iceland for the 2019 KARDS World Championship and qualified for the Grand Finals again in 2020. Fenrir primarily plays draft, but when he makes the venture over to constructed, people are bound to be shaking in their boots. It will be interesting to see how Chinese veteran Fenrir fares against his competitors in the invitational.

When & Where

The Chinese Invitational tournament will be held online on Saturday, November 26th at 21:00 CST / 13:00 GMT and will be live broadcast on Bilibili.

Our host and caster for the event are KARDS veterans, FaiRNess and TangTang!

Tune in to catch all the action as these four Chinese titans battle it out and find out who will claim the lion’s share of the $5000 prize pool and win the Chinese Invitational!
