First off - WOW, what a crazy week and a half it’s been! We've hit $410K on Kickstarter thanks to your incredible support. You're making Autonomica bigger and better every day, and we’re beyond grateful.

Now, for everyone who missed all the latest news since our last update here, let’s play a little catch-up game, because we have some cool stuff to showcase and share with you.

First of all, for anyone who’s into Kickstarter but missed some of the updates: besides actual rewards, tiers, and add-ons, we also have a lootable system. By achieving mini-goals toward the next stretch goals, we unlock funny items for all Kickstarter backers that they can wear.

Here’s what we’ve achieved so far:

UNLOCKED 🤖 – IdleTwin™ A floating mini version of you that mimics your idle animations... just a few seconds too late.
It hovers beside your backpack and occasionally plays quirky little animations of its own.
Cute. Slightly unsettling. Absolutely yours.

UNLOCKED🐰 Flaffers™ (Wearable - Footwear) – Fluffy rabbit slippers that occasionally scream like they’ve glimpsed the void. No off switch. No mercy. Pure panic.



UNLOCKED🌀 Hoodie.exe™ (Wearable - Hoodie) – A glitchy hoodie with a forever-loading progress bar. Sometimes it finishes. It never means it.



UNLOCKED 🗿 Spice Idol™ (Furniture - Statue) – Turn your favorite NPC into a life-sized statue. Poseable. Dressable. Regret optional.

Now, if you're not so much into Kickstarter, let’s dive into some of the new additions to the game that have already been unlocked as stretch goals.

First, we unlocked Modular Aquariums and showed off some fish you can catch and display in your house. We’re thinking about doing a deep dive on this mechanic, so if you want to know more about how fishing works in Autonomica, let us know!



Modular Aquariums are a new construction system that lets you display your catches in style. You’ll get access to new building pieces like round and square tanks, which can be placed on their own or snapped together side by side or stacked vertically. Once connected, they merge into one larger tank. The more you merge, the more water they’ll need and the more fish they can hold.



So you'll have the choice to build a massive maze of aquariums, show off your seasonal or futuristic fish collection, and display it for everyone who visits your house.



And speaking of fish: they’re tied to seasons, weather, and region, all part of our discoverability system. NPCs, hidden notes, and world clues will help you track down what to catch and when. Plus, when you travel to the future through Time Capsules, you’ll be able to find rare, timeline-exclusive species depending on whether you pick Peaceful or Hostile timeframes for exploration.




Next up, we had another big unlock: Aquaponic Farming. This is a new system where you can design advanced, modular farming setups that blend water and plant life together. You can build them outside or indoors, futuristic or rustic. The choice is totally up to you!



Now this one is pretty exciting, because we’ve been building huge structures for the trailer, and now you can too! The new Construction Drone allows your character to stay on the ground and build things that would normally be out of reach. You will build comfortably in first-person perspective.




Activate it, and it will fly out of your backpack while your character smoothly transitions into drone-control mode, guiding construction safely and precisely. No scaffolding or parachute required.
Below, you can check out the finished 3D model we have chosen as the default drone.



We’re offering the community the opportunity to vote for one additional drone design from the concept lineup below that we will make available with the Alpha Release.



Cast your vote on our Discord server and help decide which of these concepts will join you in-game. Choose carefully; the drone you pick might end up seeing you fall more often than you would like to admit.

Speaking of new heights, we also unlocked character height customization where you can make your character taller or shorter or maybe even somewhere in the middle. This might seem like a super simple unlock, but there’s significant tweaks to be made to character rigs and animations. Just like real humans, characters have internal bones that will need to be adjusted. Imagine the digital equivalent of multiple orthopedic visits!

Next on our list: Animals!

We are also happy to introduce a new additions to our animals that are coming to the game:
Zebras, Giraffes, Ostriches, Bisons, and Rabbits.



Each animal in the game has its own set of preferences and characteristics. For instance, there's Privacy, so you'll need to build and populate enclosures just right to keep your animals happy. If there's not enough space or the enclosure becomes overcrowded, animals can get stressed or even sick. Horses need plenty of room, while chickens don’t mind being packed together.




There's also compatibility, which determines which species can comfortably live together. It's perfectly fine to mix ducks and chickens, but if you put crocodiles and chickens together, you might find your chickens mysteriously disappearing.



Every animal you capture will need its own spot in your shelter. This means placing animal resting areas, or as we call them, animal beds. During bad weather or nighttime, animals will seek out their beds. Without one, they'll grow restless, unhappy, and eventually fall ill.




Animal Breeding is another exciting addition. Every animal species inhabits its own biome. You'll find giraffes in deserts, crocodiles in swamps, rabbits in forests, and so forth. Animals come in both traditional and rare exotic color variations. Exotic animals only appear under special world conditions. Capture these rare specimens and breed them to produce offspring inheriting their parents' unique colors. If you breed two differently colored animals, their offspring will have a blended color hue from both parents.




To help with breeding, we’re developing something we affectionately call the Animal Dating Site. It's a special facility where you can introduce two animals, male and female, and help them produce offspring. But you'll need to stimulate the romance by preparing their favorite dish, perhaps a carrot cake for rabbits or a strawberry pie for cows.



If you spend enough time caring for a particular animal, your relationship with it will grow. After reaching a certain bond level, that animal can become your personal pet and travel with you. Each pet provides special perks to your character stats. For example, llamas might speed up your stamina regeneration by 7%, crocodiles could improve your endurance, and cows may boost your health by 10 points. We're even planning (planning being the keyword, as we’re still perfecting the pathfinding system) to let you have multiple pets traveling alongside you. Additionally, you'll be able to mount mid-sized animals and ride them across the islands.



Finally, animals tie directly into your automation systems. Set up cheese or milk production, create yogurt supplies for local businesses, and watch communities thrive with your support. Harvester Stations staffed by Harvy bots will automatically collect animal-produced products and deliver them straight to your conveyor lines.

Lastly, on the big stretch goals news, we’ve reached pools and ponds!

Ponds and Basic Terraforming:
You can now create custom ponds by digging directly into the terrain. Use the landscaping tool to adjust ground textures, add paths, grass, and decorative elements like boulders, logs, or mossy rocks. After shaping and decorating your pond, you'll connect water pipes to fill it. The game uses a dynamic raycasting system to automatically detect the pond's shape and size. Once filled, you can further enhance your pond by placing floating decorations and populating it with fish you've caught.




Dynamic Pools:
Pools can be placed onto suitable terrain directly from your construction menu. You'll have the ability to stretch and reshape pools horizontally and vertically using interactive points during construction. Customize pool surfaces by selecting various colors and tile materials. Pools also include additional decorative items such as slides, umbrellas, loungers, and swimwear props.



This is it for the actual unlocked stretch goals during the campaign, but we also wanted to share a little bit more about the progression of the game and how it is structured.

The primary goal in developing Autonomica is to create a richly diverse world that lets you craft your ideal gameplay experience, whether you are a cozy farmer, an automation engineer, or a competitive ghost hunter.



Right from the start, you'll have the freedom to shape your own development journey. You're not limited to a single path-you can unlock and explore multiple development areas simultaneously or sequentially, in any order that suits your playstyle. Most unlocks in the game are accessed through special placeable objects called "Research Stations," which you can freely position wherever you'd like. There are five distinct stations:



Botanical Station, Mining Station, Husbandry Station, Manufacturing Station, Cooking Station

Each station is dedicated to technologies associated with specific game mechanics. Within these stations, you'll find "Licenses," each containing multiple "Technologies." To unlock new tools, construction elements, seeds, and other useful technologies, you'll fulfill resource or product requirements within these Technologies. Progressing through Licenses expands your abilities, allowing deeper customization and more advanced gameplay.




Licenses for these Stations can be acquired in multiple ways-some can be purchased from specialized NPCs in towns, others discovered by exploring the world or by traveling to future time frames. Time travel in Autonomica allows you to visit different points in the future, uncovering advanced technologies, unique resources, animals, crops, and rare Licenses not found in the present. Various Time Frames are available for you to choose from-you can jump to peaceful survival Time Frames or competitive PvPvE Time Frames. We will share more about this functionality later. Additionally, some Licenses will be unlocked early to give you a headstart in the game.



Basically, each station represents a dynamic research path for specific categories in the game, offering players the freedom to craft their own experience. You can set up your farms exactly the way you want, whether that's cozy farming with minimal or no automation, or fully automated megafactories efficiently producing products in mass.

Phew, this is pretty much it for the big news from the past week, but we do have a few other points to share with you.

What’s Next?
Our next stretch goal:
Aquariums. Modular ones.

This feature will let you build fully modular aquariums indoors or outdoors. Stackable pieces, custom sizes, wall-length tanks, and more. Whether you want a cozy little fish bowl in your hut or a massive floor-to-ceiling tank in your futuristic mansion — you’ll be able to build it.

They’ll also come with internal decorations and exclusive new fish species just for this system.
We’ll be sharing more visuals and details in an upcoming update — stay tuned!

To make the path to that next stretch goal more exciting, we’re introducing the Stretch Goal Journey Map. This is a series of milestones with fun surprises along the way.

Hope you’ve all been doing okay. We kinda realized we haven’t been hanging out with you much here on Steam, and with over 16,000 of you following the game, that’s on us.

We’ve been posting updates on our other channels almost daily, and it sucks knowing some of you are missing out on the good stuff. So we’re trying something new: Digests — little catch-up posts where we round up cool things we’ve been working on to keep you in the loop.

DIGEST NUMBER UNO

☀️ SOLAR PANELS

Being heavily inspired by Solarpunk aesthetics, we want everything in Autonomica to be powered by natural forces — and solar panels play a big role in that.

We know how important smooth building tools are in a game like this, so we put a lot of care into making solar panel placement feel just right.

You can cover the roofs of your mega farm with them, or build tall structures that reach a little closer to the sun. Panels snap cleanly to different surfaces, adapt to angles, and respond to your in-game setup.

We hope you love them. We definitely got way too excited every time one snapped perfectly into place.



🚿 PIPES

On top of the solar panels (or under them, if that’s your thing), we’ve added dynamic water pipes.

With over 100 crops planned, farming in Autonomica hits different. You can water 2,000 eggplants by hand (weird flex), or set up automated sprinklers and enjoy other stuff like fishing, building, customizing, hunting phantoms — and their moms. We’ll talk more about our sprinkler systems in a future post.

The pipes? You can run them above or below ground. Very cool. Very satisfying.



Should we do something similar for electrical wires? Overhead poles could add a cool look to your Solarpunk builds. Let us know what you think.

🛰️ BLACKBOX

Since the game starts with you plummeting to your death — ahem, starting your new island life — we figured you'd need some company.

Meet BlackBox, your plane’s sentient navigational robot.

He was designed to assist surviving passengers. Too bad you're the only one left. He’s sharp, unfiltered, and a little too aware of your situation. The good news? You can actually tweak his attitude with built-in annoyance controls.



Oh, and he technically doubles as a flower pot. Just don’t bring it up unless you want a passive-aggressive systems error. He insists he's all about tactical utility — but come on, he's kinda cute.



🌌 NIGHT VIBES

We don’t have forced sleep mechanics in Autonomica, so nighttime is yours to enjoy. Whether you're taking a break from phantom hunting or just soaking in the vibes, we want the world to feel just as alive (and beautiful) after dark.






💍 WEDDING SCENERY

In Autonomica, you'll be able to experience deep interactions with NPCs and build all kinds of relationships. We’ll talk more about romance and NPC behavior soon, but for now, enjoy this early wedding scene concept art:

After careful consideration, we've finally settled on a bold new identity for our game. Say goodbye to the humble beginnings of simple farm simulation and welcome to Cowsmopolitan—a colorful, funny, and distinctly cow-themed universe of futuristic farming, crafting, automation, and customization wrapped in a delightful 80s-retro aesthetic.

Sure, we considered other fantastic contenders like Swinecraft, but let's be honest: pigs don't have the sheer charisma of cows. We also flirted briefly with the name Cocktopia, but swiftly decided that was probably best left for a completely different kind of game - and preferably one that doesn't get us immediately into troubles.

Now, before you rush to Discord or Reddit to passionately debate the merits of farm animal naming conventions... we have a tiny confession:

Hey everyone,
The team and I want to get your opinion on a really important part of our game's future. As you’ve probably noticed (duh), the game has evolved a lot over the years, and we can’t wait for you to play it.
While our game has detailed and innovative farming systems, it’s so much more than just a farming game. You can build and customize your structures with a system inspired by The Sims, allowing for incredibly detailed personalization. You can automate the production of organic and non-organic products with complex conveyor systems and diverse machinery inspired by Satisfactory, all designed with sleek, minimalistic styles to seamlessly fit into your builds.

We’re creating an open world with uninterrupted day-night cycles and seamless seasonal and weather transitions. Not only will your character react to the environment, but the world around you will too. NPCs will offer quests, share their stories, and let you form bonds to help them rebuild or start their businesses. You’ll even see their startups grow and change right in front of you.

For players who want a challenge, we’ve got settings that ramp up survival and combat experiences. And all of this is tied together by a main storyline (which I can’t spoil too much yet because it’s still in development).

What I can tell you is:
The world is thriving and beautiful, but something is changing. You’ll encounter mysterious, ghost-like entities we call Phantoms. Thanks to reckless experiments by (X) Corporation, time portals have appeared. These rips in time revealed a terrifying truth—the world is heading toward its end. To stop it, we need answers, and those answers lie in the distant future, at the very edge of time itself.
You’ll need to Travel to the future alone or with your friends. There, you’ll face Phantoms (PVE), rival players (PVP), and a crumbling, desolate timeline as you Extract vital resources and information to bring back to the present.

The best part about all of this? You get to decide how to experience this story. If combat and competition aren’t your thing, no problem—you can choose a more relaxed, exploration-focused journey with customizable difficulty settings. Discover the mysteries of the future at your own pace without the pressure of battles. But if you love intense missions and high-stakes action, those challenges are waiting for you too.

Whether you’re uncovering secrets or braving the chaos to secure critical resources, your role is vital. The story adapts to your playstyle, so no matter how you choose to engage, you’ll play an essential part in shaping the future of our world.

Now, let’s be real—we’re not planning to deliver some crazy, cinematic, AAA-level story (yet! lol). Our budget doesn’t quite stretch that far. But you can expect solid lore and meaningful story development.
And yeah, we know it’s ambitious. But with over 10 years of experience in game development, we’re confident we can deliver. Many foundational systems are already in place. Sure, there’s still a ton of work ahead, but we believe in what we’re building, and we’re sure you’ll love it, soon we will let you try it out.

Now, here’s where we need your input. One of our biggest challenges right now is the name of the game—Farm Folks. At first, I thought it was fun and kind of ironic, given the scope of the game. But now, we feel like the name might be holding us back.

A lot of new fans see the name and assume it’s just another farming game, which—now you know—it’s not. What started as a simple farming game has grown into something entirely different, far bigger than what the original team had planned.

For context, the old team couldn’t finish the game. When we took over, we initially planned to complete it as it was. But we quickly realized much of the work wasn’t leading anywhere. So, we decided to take our own shot at it and build the game we truly believe in.
That said, we committed to fulfilling the promises made by the original team. Backers of the original Farm Folks campaign will still get access to the game based on their chosen rewards tiers. On top of that, we’ve committed to matching—or even exceeding—the value of those rewards with our new Kickstarter campaign.

Keep in mind, we didn’t receive any money from the original Kickstarter campaign. This is purely a gesture of goodwill because we thought it was the right thing to do. Farm Folks was a title we originally expected to publish, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out, and we lost a lot of money in the process. Even so, we’re determined to turn this around and deliver something truly special.

Kickstarter Launch Date Update and Monthly Giveaway

FARM FOLKS KICKSTARTER LAUNCH UPDATE

Our team has been hard at work creating what we believe will be an amazing experience for everyone to enjoy. Progress is strong, and we're very pleased with it. We see that many of you are eager to support the project via our upcoming Kickstarter campaign, and we are truly grateful for your kindness and support. Your enthusiasm and love motivate us to work even harder.




We've got extensive experience in crowdfunding, having successfully helped fund over 20 indie gaming projects via Kickstarter. We know how this process works, and timing is crucial. Despite making strong development progress, we will miss an important summer Kickstarter window. Starting in August, the back-to-school season and winter holidays will bring major AAA releases that could overshadow our campaign. We’ve decided to delay our Kickstarter launch to ensure we deliver the best possible experience.



We're still working on a lot of foundational systems; there are many key game pillars that will hold the mechanics together, and we can't cut corners if we want our game to be great. We want to showcase these core mechanics in our trailer and avoid making promises we can't deliver.


We need a few extra months to get everything working as intended. With this in mind, we're aiming to push our Kickstarter launch to the end of January or the beginning of February, which means waiting an additional five months. This extra time will allow us to not only do a better job with the Kickstarter campaign but also prepare a demo for streamers and a game build for Alpha backers, likely available a month or two after the Kickstarter.



Even if we were to launch the Kickstarter campaign tomorrow, the Alpha wouldn't be ready until April. By delaying the launch, we ensure that the Alpha becomes available for backers shortly after the campaign, providing a more complete experience.


We hope for your understanding and support. Below you can find our roadmap. Until the Kickstarter, we will continue providing daily and monthly updates, though we might get a bit quiet as we approach the release. Make sure to head to our Kickstarter page and click the "Get Notified" button to stay in the loop.

Whether you're a cozy player who prefers a relaxing, challenge-free environment, or a competitive player who thrives on the thrill of online PVPvPE challenges, there's something for everyone.




We want Farm Folks to become a massive platform offering diverse gameplay mechanics that simulate digital life experiences, which we will be able to continuously expand and add new content to on a regular basis. Farm Folks is not your regular farming game - it's so much more. We can't wait for you all to experience it, but first, we want to make sure the game is ready.
