Eador. Masters of the Broken World - Bruce Willis
It's been almost half year since you heard from us. Mostly it was because of very busy schedule and general lack of any interesting news. Now it is time to tell you what we did all these months and why.

But first of all we want to express our gratitude toward all our followers and readers and all those people who send their ideas, visions and comments to us. Thank you for what you are - it is you who give us strength to move forward toward release! We do believe that we should make dedicated post in the nearest future where we will mention all those who shared their ideas with us.

And back to the astral news at last:

  • Astral level (which was removed from Imperium) is back and already ported to new project prototype.
  • Astral mechanics was rewritten from scratch and improved.
  • New features added - among them ability to merge shards and ability to continue exploration of your own shards.
  • Astral level AI is more I than A :) now.
  • Added ability to fine tune astral lords.
  • New toolset for scenario creations.

Other not so exciting updates:

  • Unfortunately, due to the lack of financing, development is moving slow.
  • It is the main reason for skipping art assets development (we did some sketches and samples, though).
  • This is why all the ingame shots are more utilitarian style and they would not be included in the release (of course!).

Some future plans, to keep you busy:

  • Week ago we started to rewrite and port shard (strategy) level into the prototype.
  • Right now we are testing some strategic gameplay ideas, which could make gameplay less monotonous and more dynamic, but we're trying not to lose essentials of previous game!
  • Financing - we are working on it, but it is too early to share our ideas. So far all the financing is our own spare :) money.

So please take a look at some visuals from astral level of the game.

Our team at Snowbird would like to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Although this year was a quite a challenge for everybody, and, unfortunately, we were not able to keep all our promises to you, we're looking into the future with careful optimism, and hope that we would release ongoing projects and start develop new projects as well.

PS. Just a short reminder for all of you - ongoing Winter Sale on Steam is the best and last chance to buy our games in 2020!

Eador. Masters of the Broken World - Bruce Willis
Hello!

Due to the lack of news and updates, you might be wondering what happens to our development plans. Have we forgot about the Eador universe at all or do we have something up our sleeve?

Well, as you may have already guessed - we have a bunch of surprises for our fans.

Although it was not an easy decision to make - considering all the "wonderful" events humanity had in 2020, we were always passionate about TBS and somewhere in August we began sketching new project. Hopefully this information will cheer you up a little!

Today we are ready to make a first official public announcement of the upcoming title in the Eador universe.

Because it is very early stage of development, there is not much we can show you, but so far you can be sure that:

  • The game will be based on the Unreal Engine.
  • Astral, which was put aside in the Imperium is coming back with new features.
  • A new storyline campaign which will unfold some secrets.
  • And, of course, new masters, heroes and creatures!

We will do our best to keep you posted on our development progress - in the newsfeeds for Eador games, and, later we will welcome you to the dedicated project as soon as we setup one.

And while we at it, we would like to take opportunity and invite you to take a part in the Steam Autumn sale - you may buy Eador or other our games to support further development and keeping us alive :)

Also it is a good time to look back and check out previous Eador games:

We'll keep you posted!
Development team.

Eador. Masters of the Broken World - Snowbird Games
Hello everyone!

We've just pushed a small update - mainly to do with the multiplayer part of the game. Hopefully, the server will be much more stable now. So, just letting you know!

Also wanted to let you know that we still remember and love Eador and maaaybe have some ideas about its future. It's always a pleasure to see people playing these games to this day.

Before we get to those ideas though, we first need to finish our current project - Feral Blue (please wishlist).

Have a good weekend!

Hi everyone,

Today we have a reason to remember our game from 2013 — Eador. Master of the Broken World. One incredibly hardworking person — by the name Jagulars — created his own mod for the game, which considerably changes the balance for heroes and some of the units. Our gamedesigner has been trying out the mod for five days straight and periodically shouting: 'Hell no, this is too imba!'. Basically, the changes are quite substantial.

You can find the full list of them here.

We believe that mods can be better than original games in some ways, because mod creators have the opportunity to create freely and with no release schedule. We may not agree fully with some of the balance choices made by Jagulars, but still we recommend everyone to play this mod.

Hi everyone!

Today we're very happy to announce our new project, currently in active development. This game is called Feral Blue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za9CFrmZ_2c

We've always been fond of sailing ships. Actually, there are about three things regarding games we're very passionate about: how to make our own version Heroes of Might & Magic 3, how to make our own version of "Pirates!" and how to finish our very own Fatherdale. These kinds of 'DIY engines' we worked with before can do miracles in some of the luckiest cases, but obviously that's not something we can say about ourselves. So it's a great thing that an indie team of two people can start making a game with Unreal Engine 4 (we still remember when it was a luxury for a very few).

Sailing ship is always about the freedom. You can't get the same unforgettable feeling of salty splashes getting to your face in Titanic or in a WW1 dreadnought. This is the basic emotion that we wanted to convey with Feral Blue — freedom and the sea. In addition, we are doing our best to introduce the concept we've been working on in our games for the past few years: going from controlling your crew to controlling your settlement and then — to controlling your empire. We want players not just upgrade their stats, but their level of responsibility. At the same time, when you're fed up with everything, you have the ability to get out of your office, gather your crew of veterans and set sail on a frigate, to cut the Maltese in boarding fights. Yes, it seems we have our first game, where the Maltese will be among the main factions.

We took a long time to figure out what the game will look and play like. First it was FTL — but we realized it's not something we want to go with (by the way, if you do want to play FTL about sailing ships — buy Abandon Ship). Of course, we took some ideas from our own Blood & Gold. Russian classics Sea Dogs is our current reference to naval battles (programmer's note: debatable).

In terms of the game's setting, we're taking inspiration from Waterworld (1995) and Master & Commander (2003) — sea, ships, sometimes very weird ones, naval battles in the fog. Also, we were greatly influenced by Snowpiercer (2013), with its idea of a state locked inside the train.

Feral Blue is a typical case of a game we'd like to play ourselves. But we hope it will be of interest not only to us, but you as well! For now, you can wishlist the game on Steam. See you there!

Hi everyone,

It's a big day today. Our first game Eador. Masters of the Broken World, came out exactly 5 years ago. It was and it is a bit rough around the edges, but still, to this day we're proud of what we've managed to achieve with such a small team.

Naturally, this anniversary calls for proper celebration. So starting today and until Sunday, the game is completely free and yours forever, if you just click 'Install Game' on Eador's Steam page in time. Tell your friends, share the news! Nothing beats free, right? Be warned though, Eador is notorious for eating your time like no other game — in a good way!

Some info for newcoming players. When you launch the game, you can see a banner to the left of the menu, that's a newer game in the series, Eador. Imperium, which is currently on sale with a 50% discount. What are the differences between the two?

In short, Masters of the Broken World has this huge, non-linear and sandboxy single-player campaign, that will occupy you for the longest time.

We tried to experiment with this in Imperium, where we created five handcrafted story campaigns, and also added new heroes and units (keeping all the original ones), changed and introduced some new mechanics. A good chunk of the code was rewritten, and as a result, the game is much more stable. In both games you can create custom shards (maps) with different settings, where you can play however you like. So if you find yourself enjoying MotBW, we see no reason not to give Imperium a try. Just saying.

Thanks for sticking (and bearing) with us!

Hi everyone,

There's been a lot of complaints regarding non-working multiplayer in Eador. MotBW, so it's high time we address it and explain what's going on with it.

First of all, the original netcode for the game's MP was not very good, it could often lead to desync. We managed (hopefully) to rewrite and fix this part now. Secondly, we've been hacked, believe it or not. Perhaps, you remember the epidemic of the virus-cryptographer? Well, it got us too. We found ourselves in the shoes of a grandpa who pressed some button and and then had his screen full of naked ladies. All of the server's data was encrypted and held hostage. But we don't want to give money to terrorists, so just wiped out all our hard drives.

So what happens now? Today we're releasing a new update for original MotBW, fixing multiplayer and improving the game's stability in general. To play MP, you'll need to register one more time — use your Steam/GOG key to do that. If you're having problems with registering, write us to support@snowbirdgames.com, we'll see what can be done.

The game's netcode can be described by the term 'legacy software'. This means that the functional is in there and it works, but works pretty bad. To completely rework it from the ground up is too expensive, to fix completely — impossible. We did rewrite a pretty big chunk of the code, as we already said. But unfortunately, we just can't afford to rewrite the whole MP part of the game. So we ask you to understand any possible problems you may have with MP.
