The Long Dark - HinterJon

Hello Community,

We have just released our Survival v2.44 (157357) and WINTERMUTE v2.14 (157355) Hotfix for THE LONG DARK (including Survival Edition) and TALES FROM THE FAR TERRITORY.

DISAPPEARING TRAVOIS

We've been able to identify some cases that would cause the Travois to disappear after transitioning to and from a scene, and addressed the cause. This means that we expect this problem to become drastically less common; however, we cannot be sure that we’ve completely resolved this. As such, we encourage players to reach out to our Support Portal if this issue persists for you. We greatly appreciate videos and descriptions of consistent, repeatable steps that would reproduce any issue you’ve encountered. The team is continuing to work to resolve the root cause of the disappearing Travois issue, and we will include further fixes in future hotfixes as they become available.

Known Issues

The team is currently aware of the following issues in the game. If you encounter one of these issues, there is no need to report it to the Support Portal.

  • There are edge-cases where Safehouse Decorations can disappear from an interior, container, or the player’s inventory. Items lost this way should now appear in Lost and Found boxes.

  • Players with Texture Resolution lower than “Full” and Terrain Blending “Enabled” may see black outlines along certain terrain features. This can be resolved by ensuring that Texture Resolution is set to “Full” when utilizing the Terrain Blending Advanced Visual Option.

Bug Fixes

This Minor Update includes fixes for the following issues:

GAMEPLAY, UI, CONTROLS

  • Fixed a subset of cases that could result in the Travois despawning and being placed in a nearby Lost and Found Box.

  • Fixed an issue at Trapper's Cabin where items could become lost under the snow due to the recently adjusted terrain.

  • Fixed an issue where the "Framerate Cap" slider would not remain at the desired setting, nor obey the value set.

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in quartered animal bags disappearing after Harvesting a portion of meat from them.

  • Fixed an issue in WINTERMUTE Episodes Three and Four that resulted in mistimed subtitles during the recap videos.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented WINTERMUTE saves from being renamed.

ART & ENVIRONMENTS

  • Fixed an issue in Sundered Pass that resulted in some areas displaying noticeably darkened sections with "Additional Shadows - Structures" enabled.

  • Fixed an issue in Sundered Pass cave transition that resulted in noticeably darkened sections and incorrect terrain blending with "Additional Shadows - Structures" and "Terrain Blending" enabled.

  • Fixed an issue in Sundered Pass that resulted in the interior of buildings being noticeably darker than expected with "Additional Shadows - Structures" enabled.

  • Fixed an issue in Zone of Contamination that resulted in the interior of buildings being noticeably darker than expected with "Additional Shadows - Structures" enabled.

  • Fixed an issue where powerline cables and lights would not cast shadows.

  • Fixed an issue that caused some snow patches to shift when viewed from particular distances or angles.

  • Fixed an issue on Mac where "Motion Blur" caused extremely blurred visuals during harvesting.

  • Fixed an issue where some "Ambient Effects" such as blowing snow would remain active when this option was disabled.

  • Fixed an issue in Blackrock Prison that resulted in some buildings failing to cast shadows with "Additional Shadows" enabled.

  • Fixed an issue in Bleak Inlet that resulted in the ocean water popping in and out based on the angle it was viewed at.

  • Fixed an issue where some rail cars would exhibit "Terrain Blending" when there was no snow beneath.

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in the Survivor having invisible arms when wearing the Festive Sweater.

  • Fixed an issue with the Lost and Found Box near the tunnel to Forlorn Muskeg in Broken Railroad that resulted in it remaining invisible unless very close to its location.

Please visit our Support Portal (or consult our Known Issues page) if you encounter any issues while playing the game.

Everstead: Origins - Dr. Asi

Short-Term Fixes & Long-Term Vision

First of all, thank you to everyone who played the early tech demo and shared their feedback — your input is already helping shape the future of Everstead Origins!

Coming in the next few days:

We’re currently working on a handful of small but impactful improvements based directly on your feedback:

  • A monitor selection setting to improve multi-display compatibility

  • Improved dropdown menus that are easier to read and interact with

  • A camera reset function to quickly refocus on the camp

  • An auto-follow feature for settlers — so you can track their daily routines

  • A quick-start control guide displayed at the beginning (and accessible anytime)

(Optional key remapping will be added later — it's on the roadmap!)

Rebuilding the settler system (mid/long-term goal):

We’ve decided to take a short step back in order to take a giant leap forward:
In the coming weeks, the entire settler logic system will be rebuilt from the ground up.

This is not a random change — it's a necessary step to ensure the long-term quality of the simulation.
During internal testing and with your early feedback, it became clear that the current system causes too many inconsistencies when managing free time, tasks, and transitions between behaviors.

To truly bring the world of Everstead Origins to life, this refactor is essential.

The new system will:

  • Give every settler full autonomy over their behavior, needs, jobs, and free time

  • Eliminate centralized commands from buildings

  • Enable smarter, self-managing AI routines

  • Create a much cleaner and more scalable foundation for future features

In short: the simulation will feel more natural, immersive, and alive.

We’ll continue pushing out small patches in the meantime to improve stability and usability.
Thanks for your patience — and stay tuned as Everstead Origins evolves step by step!

Halo Infinite - misplacedyank

The sport of the future arrives today. Pick up those Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords and get ready for the most epic of faceoffs with the return of Grifball!

Originally a throwaway joke in the legendary Red vs Blue series, Rooster Teeth set out to make all of Grif’s dreams a reality and created Grifball with the tools at their disposal in Halo 3’s Forge.

The game is simple:

Smash enemies. Score goals.

If you make it to the middle and grab the ball, you are blessed with an Overshield and turn orange in homage to the one and only Grif. (That OS won’t save you from friendly fire so don’t get too close to your friends!) As the runner, your goal is so easy: just score it. All you gotta do is walk over the plant and get a point. How hard can it be? Not like there’s 7 other people on the court, 4 of whom are not on your team, in your way or anything.

Jokes aside, Grifball has three weapons:

  • Gravity Hammer

  • Energy Sword

  • Ball (or Bomb…depends who you ask)

All of which combine to a delicate paper-rock-scissors-esque dance. Hammer beats sword, sword beats ball, ball beats hammer. But a lot of that will depend on your timing and your “dance” skills.

“But I have two left feet!” you say. Ahhh then it’s a good thing we’re not taking a spin around the ballroom floor isn’t it?

With regards to Grifball, “dancing” simply means knowing when to hold forward and smash away vs knowing when to backstep or sidestep around an enemy’s attack. Moving backwards away from an Energy Sword wielding Spartan for a moment might allow you the opportunity to step in and earn the kill.

Grif’s Got Game

We’ve already covered the Gravity Hammer-Energy Sword-Ball balance of the mode but let’s take a look at the rest of your arsenal.

As tanks (players wielding Gravity Hammers and Energy Swords):

  • Sprint

  • Gravity Hammer has gravity physics

    • Allows for hammer jumps

    • Allows for launching teammates

    • Allows for ball deflection

As runners (player holding the ball, trying to score):

  • No sprinting

  • 1.5x speed increase moving forward/laterally

  • 1.05x speed increase moving backwards

  • Overshield

  • Ball passing ability

All in first person….and third! Yes, Classic Grifball will be available in both first and third person modes for matchmaking so if you prefer being able to see over your shoulder, that’s definitely an option this time around!

“Classic” implies the availability of a “Not Classic” experience and you would be correct. Introducing Octane Grifball! Also available in both first and third persons, the move sets are the same as above with the addition of thrusters allowing you to zip around the court.

You can bookmark the modes here:

Battle Boxes

Generally speaking, a Grifball court is pretty straightforward – you’re battling in a boxy arena. Aesthetics are generally the biggest identifiable difference between courts with a few exceptions. (Raise your hand if you fell to your death on Grifball Naught in Halo 3 because you moved before the floor spawned in 🙋🏻‍♀️).

For today’s launch we’ve got plenty to share – you’ll been spoiled for courts with this impressive collection of maps. Enjoy!
