Release 1.4 is here! This update introduces new backstory and worldbuilding chapters that appear in dungeons, cities, and when you rent a room at the inn. As requested by some players, these additions offer deeper insight into the characters of Tamzyn and Sioul, as well as the game world itself.

🧭 What are they and what are they for?

These are short narrative chapters without choices, where you simply witness conversations between the characters. They reveal important details for later in the game and help you understand the world and its inhabitants more deeply.

💞 Relationship Points

Some chapters in dungeons and cities will grant relationship points, while all chapters at the inn will give trust points. These stats will play a role in future story developments and may influence how certain events unfold.

🧠 The Key Concept

The most important part of this update is the new engine that allows me to add these chapters using images with facial expressions, paired with the writing. This gives the game more emotional depth, while keeping it fun and immersive. As you can see, the game can now grow in depth (like this update) or in size (by adding new places, monsters, or features).

🛠️ What I'm working on now

I’ve been writing chapters for the main quest, which I plan to implement next. I might add some jobs first—or somewhere along the way. Still deciding. With these new chapters, I believe the main story will feel richer and more meaningful.

Stay tuned, and thank you so much for playing in my universe. Enjoy! 😊

P.S. I’d love to hear your feedback on the new chapters—especially if you liked them (just being honest, lol).

Thank you dear adventurers for playing my game. You are making the dream of my life true, by living it with me. I can't thank you enough and I hope you enjoy as much playing as I do creating. - Louis.

----------
Game Overview

Tokyo Underground Killer is a 3D action game set in a neon-drenched, near-future Tokyo. You play as Kobayash, an assassin feared as the "Shinjuku Vampire," who takes on the dirty work for Japan's largest crime syndicate, Gokuraku. Using katana swordplay and your supernatural vampiric "Blood Skills," you'll hunt down and eliminate ten madmen plaguing Tokyo. The game also features a wild story with black humor and unpredictable twists, all told through comic-style illustrations.

High-Speed Combat System

The game features a first-person perspective as you mow down enemies based on Japanese Oni and Yōkai. The high-speed, blood-splattering action is a key feature, with light and heavy katana attacks, a quick-closing dash, and a slow-motion effect triggered by perfectly timed parries and dodges. You can even deflect enemy bullets and unleash a charged-up fiery blade attack to take down enemies from a distance. Beyond the katana, you'll find unique hidden weapons like a shuriken launcher and a cursed Japanese doll.

As a vampire, Kobayash can regenerate health by absorbing blood from defeated enemies and unleash powerful Blood Skills, such as creating a tornado of flames. The combat system encourages constant hacking and slashing to recover health and use your Blood Skills. By collecting resources, you can unlock new abilities on the skill tree and upgrade your Blood Skills. You'll need these abilities to defeat a roster of eccentric bosses in the main missions, from a vengeful pop idol to a cult leader.

"Nightlife" Between Missions

Between missions, you can explore a cyberpunk Tokyo modeled after famous spots like Shinjuku and Akihabara. The city offers activities like pachinko, UFO catchers, and gachapon machines, and you can display the items you collect in your Shinjuku apartment. There are even secret areas like a "free information center." Taking a break from the underworld to enjoy Tokyo's nightlife is a great way to unwind.

All-Star Production Team

The game's story is told through approximately 100 pages of comic-style illustrations by comic artist Hans Steinbach. The soundtrack includes over two hours of music by composer Andrew Hulshult, known for his work on titles like Dusk and the Doom Eternal expansion, "The Ancient Gods." The Japanese voice cast is also top-notch, with Hidekatsu Shibata, known for his role as Monkey D. Dragon in One Piece, voicing Kobayash's boss, Ishihara.
