Hotfix 1.06 cyberslid down Cyberpunk 2077‘s cyberchimney overnight, smashing a tiny handful of bugs including one important one: the problem of save files becoming corrupted if they hit 8MB in size. Pass that limit, and boosh, your save is gone, unrecoverable. This really only affected people who did a lot of crafting, but sure did suck for them. So now it’s fixed.

Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077 showing us his hairy armpits while sitting at a diner

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has been in players’ hands for a couple weeks, progress has been made in two talented but different groups of goofs. Already this week, modders have cooked up a mod to change your hairstyle since V isn’t able to after leaving character creation. Let’s see what the speedrunners are up to then. Oh, they’re racing to have sex as soon as possible. Of course they are.

Let me preface this by saying that I, like everyone else, have an enormous amount of respect and affection for Keanu Reeves. By all accounts he is just a very lovely man, and to different people he is Ted “Theodore” Logan, he is Neo the chosen one, latterly, he is dog-loving murdermachine John Wick. He has put in fabulous turns in some truly iconic productions.

It’s just that, with the best will in the world, his performance as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t one of them, is it?

The future is here and you can be whoever you want to be! Put metal in your face. Dig the tackiest clothes you can find out of the bargain bin. Change what kind of sword you’ve got embedded in your arm. Oh, your hairstyle? No, sorry, that’s an immutable personal characteristic. Cyberpunk 2077 may not let you change V’s haircut after you’ve soared out of character creation but never you worry, modders are already on the case and have delivered an early version of a utility for swapping out your locks.

Watch out all you crafters and hoarders: a Cyberpunk 2077 bug is causing players’ saves to become corrupted if the files become too large. It seems crafting in particular can help save files grow to dangerous sizes. CD Projekt Red are advising players to “use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower amount of items and crafting materials” to avoid the problem, because once your files are corrupted, there’s no getting them back.

A second post-launch patch is hitting Cyberpunk 2077, fixing more bugs causing crashes and halting quests, among other issues. Hotfix 1.05 launched on consoles overnight, with the devs saying it would “follow soon” on PC. I’m not seeing yet, though. CDPR also offer a tantalising note about wanting to support people who make mods, though I imagine they have a lot of other tasks to tick off before they reach mod support.

As I’m sure most have gathered by now, it’s been a challenging week for Cyberpunk 2077. The techy RPG launched with quite a lot of bugs for PC players, prompting both players and investors to pepper CD Projekt Red with questions about how the game wound up launching in this state and what their plans for the future would be. Even the staff themselves have questions, according to a new report about a company meeting in which developers confronted the studio’s board about the conditions under which the game was developed and launched.

Cyberpunk 2077 crafting guide

Crafting is an often overlooked system in Cyberpunk 2077, and many players will complete a playthrough without so much as glancing at the crafting screen. But once you understand the basics, crafting becomes an extremely powerful (read: utterly overpowered) tool for generating infinite money and giving you the best possible gear. Our Cyberpunk 2077 crafting guide will walk you through how crafting works, how to get infinite crafting components and money, how to farm Legendary crafting components, and more.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is a mess, especially on consoles, I was not expecting Sony to straight-up remove the game from their download store. While folks who bought it there can still play it, Sony have pulled Cyberpunk from sale on the PlayStation Store as they introduced an open refund policy. Others can still buy the game on the vintage tech known as ‘a disc’. But while the situation was certainly sparked by the state of the game, this particular move seems ultimately to be about refunds.

A photo of an ultrawide gaming monitor running Cyberpunk 2077, with V shooting her gun in front of a Night City background

As a lover of ultrawide PC games, I’ve been chomping at the bit to see what Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City looks like in 21:9. I’ve had to refrain from doing so for the last week as I put together my Cyberpunk 2077 best settings and ray tracing performance guides, but now those are complete I’ve finally found some time to swap out my regular 16:9 monitor for my trusty ultrawide Asus screen.

And the results are… fine, I guess? It didn’t blow me away as much as I thought it would, but hey, at least I made some GIFs so you can see what it looks like yourself.
