Hello everyone, Nick here. It's been almost two months since we released The Ghost of Alcantra. A huge thank you to everyone who has read our work so far. Your positive feedback has been heartwarming to see. 

This weekend is actually a special one for us. In our hometown of Houghton Michigan, it is Bridge Fest, which was the direct inspiration for the Summer Festival used in The Ghost of Alcantra. In fact, the background images used during the first scene were all taken during Bridge Fest. 

To celebrate, we have a content update for you all! The Ghost of Alcantra now has a replay feature. Now, every time the date changes in game, it unlocks that scene in the Replay Library. Unfortunately, this will not work retroactively, so scenes witnessed before the update will need to be viewed again before unlocking. We also addressed some minor script errors while we were at it.

P.S. We at ACatBox Productions have started work on our next Visual Novel! We have big things planned for this one. I won’t get into the details here, as we are still in the script revision/ directorial comment stage. However, we will hopefully have more details to show sometime in the near future. 🎯 Highlights:

🌐 Font Fixes for Asian Languages
Font issues in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean have been fixed.
However, some UI elements — especially those showing Q (Examine) and E (Use) prompts — may still display incorrectly.
No font problems were found in story-related notes. All tested both in the editor and on Steam builds.

💾 Autosave System Added
The game now features an autosave system. Reaching certain coordinates will trigger automatic saving, helping players avoid major progress loss after unexpected deaths.

🛠️ Steam DRM Issue Resolved
An issue caused by Steam DRM that prevented the game from launching correctly for some users has been fixed.

🚪 Quit Button Exit Bug Fixed
An issue that caused problems when exiting the game via the Quit button has been resolved. The game now exits cleanly.

🧧 Story-Linked Items Will Gain Unique Abilities
Certain key items tied to the story will receive special functions — similar to the lantern mechanic.
These items include:

🪓 Axe

🔪 Knife

🔥 Lighter

🎒 Inventory Balance & Lantern Limitation

The number of excessive inventory items will be reduced.

Lantern fuel will now be limited to a maximum of 3.
This change is being made because the lantern currently acts as an extremely powerful defensive tool.
With it, you can survive even if 40 zombies attack you at once — and this will now be rebalanced.

🧟‍♂️ Increased Zombie Density

The number of zombies will be increased between coordinates A1 and A9-9, making those areas more challenging and intense.

🧍‍♂️ NPC Count & Placement Adjustments

NPC count will be increased between coordinates E9-9 and E1.

Their positions will be strategically reorganized.

Some NPCs will become immune to bullets, encouraging players to explore alternative strategies.

🪓 New Special Function for the Axe
To deal with bullet-immune NPCs, the axe will gain a unique effect or interaction mechanic.
This will give players new tactical options during encounters.
