Carrion's monster is a marvel of procedural animation.

Carrion

has fleeting moments of brilliance. You might have seen those moments, in the GIFs that have been popping up on Twitter over the course of the Metroidvania monster mash’s development. It’s a shame, then, that the brilliance doesn’t last beyond the frames of a looping animation.

As the fuzzy denizens of earth pivot to non-existence, we will soon be left with an unclear memory of the animal kingdom’s bizarre court. The elephant, for instance, what even is it? I cannot help with that question, I’m not a marine biologist. But what I can offer is a tour of endangered videogame wildlife. Otherworldly creatures you can’t find beneath the rocks of reality or swimming in the ponds of tangibility. It is the least I can do. So, here you go. A safari of the 9 weirdest animals in PC games.

It’s not often you get to unapologetically play the bad guy. When you do there are always moral dilemmas, and reasons why you’re doing the bad thing. That doesn’t seem to be the case in Carrion, however. It’s a new “reverse-horror” made by Phobia Game Studio and published by Devolver Digital, in which you play as a monstrous amalgamation of blood and tentacles. Your goal? Find your way out of a maze-like lab and consume every person you meet along the way.

In less than two weeks, you could be a horrible meaty mass of tentacles and teeth crawling through vents and devouring hapless humans. And in the game, obvs. Devolver Digital today announced a July 23rd release date for Carrion, the platformer which will at least let you live out a digital facsimile of your true life’s dream. I’ve been cooing at this horror for years now and soon we’ll all get to tickle its tummy and feed it scientists. It still has a demo for now, too.

You, there, stop that. You’ve got new videogames to play. Good Old Games has just launched free demos for Desperados 3 and the System Shock remake, along with a handful of other upcoming games. I’ve already had a sneaky play of both tactical cowboys and cybernetic spaceship loners, so I can already tell you they’re worth your time. Aren’t I good.

This is also another chance to check out Carrion, a horror game where you are a horrible mass of sticky tentacles.

Since I first saw a gif of the squishy guts monster of Carrion I haven t been able to decide whether its movement is nauseating or beautiful. Playing its free demo, which is available now through next Saturday, November 2nd, has neither settled my stomach nor my appreciation for its aesthetics. I think this is a good thing.

We’ve been drowned by E3 2019 this past week, but maybe you only waded into the river of game reveals and new trailers up to your ankles. If you didn’t get your hair wet, there might be some gems among the flotsam and jetsam that you missed. That’s what this post is for: we’ve rounded up our picks for the best games of E3, based on our own impressions of either seeing the games behind closed doors at the show, or of watching the videos from the comfort of our homes.

They just keep coming don’t they? A lot of games were announced at E3 2019, things that we didn’t know about, as well as stuff that’s previously announced, or expansions to already released games. Now, to the casual outsider, what we’re doing might seem absolutely nuts, but we thought we’d put together an alphabetical list of all the PC games that have been confirmed to appear at this year’s E3 show. With well over a hundred of them now in the books, the next year or so looks packed.
