We’ve heard all of your feedback, and we’ve taken it seriously.

Many of you were disappointed that VR Giants didn’t offer an online multiplayer mode that worked without relying on external screen-sharing services like Steam Remote Play Together or Parsec. You were absolutely right—and it inspired us to start working on a true online multiplayer feature, even when we weren’t sure if we’d be able to make it happen.

Today, we’re excited to tell you that it’s coming… and sooner than you might think!

At the beginning of August, we’ll be releasing online multiplayer in Beta. It won’t be perfect right out of the gate, but it should be playable and fun. Please keep sending us your bug reports and feedback so we can iterate quickly and make it better every step of the way.

NEKRO3 - chvdrgames

The demo version of NEKRO3 is now live — an atmospheric 2D horror where you play as a dying protagonist. Unarmed, but not hopeless.

The demo includes 5 levels, deadly traps, zombies, and your first encounter with something that hunts even your glowing corpse.

Important: the demo already features key mechanics:
— luring zombies into traps,
— glowing player corpses,
— glitch effects,
— and its own unique ending.

Whether you reach the door… or die on level 5 —
something will happen.

(No new matchmaking or dungeon entry allowed after 8:30 AM)

Maintenance Compensation: 1,200 Wish Stones

Resolved Issues

  • Issue where party members couldn’t ready up after an invitation

  • Issue where the party disbanded upon dungeon escape

  • Some Season Pass quests not completing properly

  • Occasional crashes during matchmaking

  • Time check error in the Focused Play Event

  • Abnormal behavior when using certain items

  • Certain skills in Adventure Mode (PvE) not dealing damage

  • Incorrect end time displayed for events

  • Flame trap name incorrectly shown in kill cam

  • Friends appearing offline incorrectly

Issues we're working on

  • Freezing issue under specific conditions during gameplay

  • Blue outline ghosting left behind on Escape Portal / Escape Monument

It has been identified that some of the current issues are due to insufficient server resources.

We have expanded our server and WebSocket infrastructure, and we expect this will resolve issues such as failed dungeon entry due to matchmaking errors and occasional party disbands.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation to prevent these problems from recurring. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the many issues.

But before we explain what's actually in this update, here's a brief instruction.

Sometimes you can have a problem with launching the game (or some parts of it) after the update. This issue could be related to Steam and not the game itself. If you encounter a problem like that, please check your local files here:

And now, let's get back to our update...Here's what we did:
  • new car - Feetari F420

You can use it how you want - buy, sell, steal, destroy, repair, etc. You'll find it as one of the cars for sale.

  • storage

You can store various car parts there; you can also upgrade it and increase its capacity – you'll find it in the shed. You can also check it in the Inventory.

  • engines swapping

You can freely swap engines in your cars. Yes, the one you have in the Feetari can also be installed in the Piat Funto ːsteamhappyː

  • mechanic's improvements

It’s now much easier to customize your car there. You can change tires, rims, car color, and even swap engines.

  • improved the map's look

  • camera position depends on where the engine is located

  • unified acceleration and top speed behavior of cars when changing engines and control modes

  • improved behavior of some cars after swapping in more powerful engines

  • optimized and improved interior lighting in buildings

  • rework and visual improvements of areas around Saint City and Rainyvale

  • more details added to some roads

  • fixed an issue where road guardrails could generate glitchy behavior

  • traffic can now drive through some roads in Saint City and Rainyvale

Everything is a remix…

The title of a popular documentary by Kirby Ferguson about music—but really, it applies to everything. Movies, books, games… nothing comes out of thin air. Everything we create is shaped by the stuff we’ve seen, played, read, or heard—whether we realize it or not.

Our game is no exception.

So today, we wanted to take a moment to talk about the media that influenced us—movies, games, and weird little corners of the internet that helped shape Deluded into what it is. Some of these influences might be obvious. Others? Not so much. Let’s dive in.

Mechanics

As you may have already heard, Deluded has been highly influenced by Skyrim mods. Back in the day, one of our lead devs was fiddling a lot with these mods, but he was always struggling to make them compatible and immersive. So creating a game that would fix those issues while taking all the best bits from the mod scene was only natural.


Here are some of those Skyrim mods:

S∗∗Lab Ar∗∗sed inspired our Ar∗∗sal mechanics. with its similar features like: passive ar∗∗sal buildup, nud∗ty checks, resetting the effect upon s∗∗/mas∗∗∗bation, etc.

Blush When Ar∗∗sed and Dripping When Ar∗∗sed

S∗∗Lab Guards—adding s∗∗ual interactions with law enforcers

S∗∗Lab Fill Her Up—support for bellies inflated with fluids

Apropos for attributes system covering: fluids on the body, dirt level, holes wear and tear level.

Various mods for survival, including Frostfall and Needs and Diseases.

Being Female—menstruation and pregnancy mechanics with their buffs and debuffs

Devious Devices—multiple BD∗M devices and gear and their functions like movement/inventory blocking.


What about games?

Most of the corruption mechanics were inspired by a Good Girl Gone Bad visual novel.


Don’t have anything specific to say in regards to Violated Heroine—it’s just a cool Japanese female protagonist game with super detailed systems.


But the game that probably influenced Deluded the most was Girl Life (originally Провинциалка), a pretty old yet classic QSP title. Check out this one and you’ll spot the resemblance right away: game style, life-sim elements, jobs, random events, corruption… Approximately 60% of what we have in Deluded comes from Girl Life.


Plot

The main storyline isn’t directly based on anything, but we kinda adopted the vibe of a creepy-isolated-village from the anime Shiki.


Visuals

Our character design leans heavily on Overwatch and Life is Strange. The UI/UX mixes Life is Strange’s feel and grungy mood of This War of Mine.


For environments, we aimed for a spooky pine forest, and Alan Wake was textbook inspiration.


Honorable mentions

Here I wanted to list a couple of pieces that did not necessarily influence our vision for Deluded—we just noticed the parallels later and thought they were neat.

Twin Peaks, much like Shiki—same rural creepiness, tense atmosphere and residents, who might not be what they seem—fits the Deluded narrative perfectly.

We also really enjoyed the social survival mechanics in Pathologic 2. The way your every action may influence the story, how citizens perceive you and which get to stay alive or not is insane.

Public Beta on July 7
We're planning to make the 1.0 release update available in a public beta branch on July 7 for interested players, and use the final two weeks to catch and fix as many bugs as possible. Players who own the game will be able to opt in. More details will be shared when that happens!

Our Early Access journey
Early Access launched on 21 Feb 2023, and it's been over 2 years since then. We've added so much to the game, much more than I first planned! Partly due to the expanded scope, development for Early Access took longer as well.

That said, with the story epilogue, marriage, and some end-game content as part of the 1.0 launch update, I believe Research Story is in a good place for full release and has plenty of content and fun for players to discover.

Reading your lovely and sometimes funny comments always put a smile to my face! 😊💚 Finally, seeing your awesome reviews for the game gives me so much encouragement that the game's on the right track.

I'm really happy that you enjoy Research Story, and I hope that you'll continue to enjoy the 1.0 update very soon! 💕

Into the future
Right now, I'm focused on the preparations for 1.0, and admittedly have not planned (much) for what comes after that! What I can promise is that I'll continue supporting the game the best I can. You know me, I try to respond to all of your comments, feedback and bug reports as much as possible.

After the dust settles, I'll look into more community feedback and see how it goes from there. I'll likely start by working on upgrading my game build to fit the latest version of Gamemaker Studio (the game engine that I use) so that I can tap into more features (specifically, borderless fullscreen and audio input changes on runtime should be available after upgrading). I'll also look into whether I'm able to support Mac/Linux, as I know we have some players on those platforms. These may take weeks or more - it's hard to say. I'll do my best!
