What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Why Early Access?
We dream to make the most Necromantic game, to give justice to this beautiful concept. And there is no way we meet this goal without synchronizing with our audience. As beta-test showed - at some cases we are making the Necromancy game you are dreamed about, and in another - we are missing this target. We already fixed some things that was off, and for other things - we need more full-scale involvement of community, to gather your input & opinions, and use them to make The Unliving an even better experience for fellow Necromancers.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The main purpose of Early Access is to make sure that The Unliving turns into a well-rounded necromancer experience and a product ready for full release. The Unliving will remain in Early Access until we're satisfied and sure that it's the complete experience we want it to be.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are treating the Early Access version as the base that we will build from, and aim to fill the game with additional necromantic content and features. We already have a road-map, listing the things we are going to make - new levels, spells, cursed items, and bosses, as well as dark mechanics that will provide additional opportunities to wreak havoc on living. But if there will be high demand for something that not in there - we probably will add it too.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core features of our game are implemented with many hours of play required to master the art of necromancy and unlock all the Early Access content. The game contains approximately: 100+ spells and sacrificial runes, three battle locations, with some degree of enrichment for random generation and Necromancers citadel with a lot of different upgrades and powers, three main bosses, and plethora of enemies with unique undead variant for each one of them.
There also a Necromancy-filled plot of the story, with colorful personalities to meet, and dialogues to read thru multiple runs.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We feel it is super important to set up an adequate price tag so that all our early adopters who believe in The Unliving will have it at a more affordable rate compared to the complete release game later. The price tag will most likely be raised gradually with the addition of new content – therefore, the shortest way to get the best deal is to get The Unliving earlier.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We put all our faith and efforts into The Unliving and believe that with the help of our community, your feedback, and engagement, it will eventually become an entertaining and balanced adventure that would bring our players a lot of memorable experiences.”

About This Game

The realm of the living has been corrupted to its core and a storm is coming to change the world order. This storm is you, a mighty Necromancer, a sorcerer who denies death and leads the legions of the dead. Clerics and lords hope to hide behind high walls, but there’s no stronghold to cover them from your wrath. Smite hundreds of those standing in your way and turn them into your tools on the way to a greater purpose.

The Unliving is a dynamic rogue-lite action RPG with strategic elements. Raise the undead, use numerous spells and explore a mystical world, all realised with darkly extravagant pixel-art.

TURN ENEMIES INTO YOUR UNDEAD ARMY
Each fallen foe can be resurrected and added to your army to create unlimited legions of the dead. These re-animated creatures have their own unique abilities, such as the undead Priest whose blessings in life, will now curse your enemies in death.

UNLOCK THE SECRETS OF NECROMANCY
Meet colorful characters - friends and foes alike. Question members of your own necromantic cult, force answers out of your enemies and even dialogue your own phylacterium - to gather the lost memories of the Necromancer piece by piece and reveal the nature of his immortality. Who knows, may be you also find out the grim truth about the supreme hierarchies of the Church.

CRUSH EVERYONE IN YOUR WAY
Only some of the living are helpless victims, the rest can retaliate against your forces. They hold the line, move in large groups and wield powerful abilities too. They cherish their lives and will not fall easily, so unleash hell as the Undead Lord to bring them to their knees.

CONQUER UNCHARTED LANDS
The world is randomly generated for each run and is richly populated with an array of creatures, artefacts, secret rooms and deadly traps. Each part of the world is occupied by a variety of living inhabitants - invade villages and slay feeble peasants to reinforce your army or engage in a desperate fight to the death in the swamps against formidable foes.

BATTLE EPIC BOSSES
The powerful creatures of this shadowy world will do all they can to stop you. Each boss has a unique fighting style and set of abilities, meaning deftness in combat and strategic thinking will be crucial in emerging victorious from these grueling encounters.

DIE AND RISE AGAIN
The ability to deny death itself is the greatest secret of the Necromancer. Another mortal strike is merely a setback for him. Take a lesson from your death and don’t let your enemies catch you the same way twice.
