Why Early Access?

“The fact is that “Mittelborg” is an active project, which is constantly changing and growing.

Our brainchild is not just a one-shot project, to be rushed and forgotten at once. We expect that the game will enjoy a long and happy life, will acquire the sequels (free, of course), will generate a whole dynasty of independent chapters in the saga of the “World Between Worlds”. This journey is long, and before embarking on it, we need to endure the birth pangs, which every new game has: remove bugs, test mechanics, check usability and etc. The Early Access and you, our first players, will help us to move further with steady pace, correcting flaws with one hand and adding new features and mechanics with the other.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will leave the Early Access when we are confident that our community will receive the finished product. We work hard not only on creating unique content and mechanics, but also on the gaming experience of our audience. For this reason, we can only give a rough release date of six months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Everything is going to be different in the game but the idea and the main mechanic.

All aspects of the game will be improved. Our plan is:

  • Polish the current game mechanics and add new ones. Some, such as the dynastic system of inheritance, goes back to the roots and some tend to be fresh and bold.
  • Expand the arsenal and collection of game entities. We are talking about the game universe, and the number of entities in the universes is in the thousands.
  • Increase significantly the number of stories and events. In “Mittelborg”, something's always happening, and we are working to make these events as interesting as possible.
  • Rework art greatly: replace static images with animation, enrich the visual framing.

And much more.
Of course, it all will not happen immediately, but will appear in the game gradually, changing it in the “soft launch” mode.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“By the time the Chancellor arrives, everything is ready. Currently our game offers:

  • City-citadel for development and protection.
  • Mages and warriors for expeditions and battles.
  • Expeditions themselves can be long or short, sent to every corner of the world.
  • More than 200 unique events with challenging moral choices in each.
  • A vast system of achievements and skills.

Certainly, the whole universe, as we know it, is at your disposal.
Although the game is now ready to give you a lot, many changes await. What you see at the moment is just the beginning. The next version will get even better.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will be corrected after the final release. But the alpha access gives you the right to both early and all later versions of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The key quality of any product is interaction with the audience. We plan to constantly communicate with our players on the forums on Steam, in the official communities of Armatur Games on Facebook, VK, Twitter and YouTube.

Unlimited Power! *Devlog update*

In keeping with our basic game design, the gameplay of Mittelborg was based on the Serenity-Tempest cycle where during the Tempest players made all the planning and preparations while during the Serenity their decisions were put to the test. However, after gathering our players’ feedback for the last few months, we have found one disadvantage in this system, in other words there was no opportunity to correct players’ initial action plan during the Tempest phase what leaded to a weak control over the city and the lack of the decision making.

We are bringing significant changes to Mittelborg concerning this flaw to increase the players’ control over the city and their perception of the game in general.

Thus the Tempest phase now is not just a continuous carousel of the events in which players have the role of observers. From now on Tempest is divided into separate days. At the end of each day players can take a number of actions and change the balance of power in the city, namely, they can buy more precise prediction of the incoming events, redirect the mages from one building to another to fix the defense or drink a potion which gives a necessary bonus in this very day.

Along these lines, the main game mechanics have undergone a number of changes:

Changes on how the Tempest events work. The text events can now occur on any day of the Tempest and cannot be predicted. Raids and Barrages are still the biggest danger to players but we added few tricks which can decrease their damage significantly and even give a total protection. A new type of event added - Tailwind. It will give an opportunity to acquire additional Aether by sending mages to the Wind Catcher during the day. The Eye of the Storm has an additional function which we will present later in our devlogs.

A new system of predictions should be also mentioned here. Due to the system, the Oracle is now the best counsellor of the Chancellor and vital for survival of Mittelborg. During the Serenity the Oracle performs a ritual to forecast the amount and type of events in the upcoming Tempest, but it cannot forecast the order of this events.The higher level of the Oracle is, the more detailed information players can receive, however to obtain the full prediction they have to pay extra.

Concerning the Chancellor’s loyal helpers, mages Viates, we have also made a correction. Now they are small in number but they give bonuses by several times more! Thus if two mages are sent to the Garrison during a Raid you will receive additional 60% physical resistance which significantly minimizes the received damage.

Before all these changes are implied in the stable version, we are going to carefully test and analyze them. But the current work-in-progress build is already available in beta-branch on Steam.

Size matters! *Devlog update*

We have always taken into consideration our players’ feedback and one of the discussed topics was the feeling that achievements/knowledge have a little impact on the gameplay. So we could not leave this issue unaddressed.

Currently in the game each achievement/knowledge gives a small bonus to specific characteristic, but it sums up to a significant bonus the end of the game. The bonus is taken into account in the game balance, but still is not very notable due to small numerical values.

We have decided to increase the values of achievements/knowledge bonuses several times but to set a limit on their number, used in one gaming session. As a result the system that has long been waiting for its time — the system of counsellors — is introduced.

Since now it is the counsellors who give a bonus to different aspects of the game, and a player can choose one of them at the beginning of each playthrough. It can greatly change one’s playing style for the session. Each of the 11 counsellors is unique, can be unlocked during the game and gets stronger with each achievement you unlock for them.

As soon as this system is carefully tested, it will be implemented into the game, as well as other new and exciting changes that we are preparing for the world of Mittelborg!

About This Game

⠀⠀⠀⠀You are the Immortal Chancellor of Mittelborg, where the Ancient Order of Magicians have been protecting and watching for the World Tree since the beginning of time. The World Tree shows the balance of all existing powers in-between worlds.
⠀⠀⠀⠀When the Tree flourishes, it gives all magician the energy to prevent the chaos in Universe. As the last chancellor disappeared during the magical expedition, the Tree keeps fading away. It leads to the massive imbalance of the sacred source of powers and outbreaks of mysterious mortal storms.
⠀⠀⠀⠀The power of the new Chancellor is in reincarnation. After death all your memories and skills are saved. Use your advantage and start over again if you fail. Develop your strategy, rule the Mages, survive in storms and become the one who restore the balance in Universe.

 Protect the city!

Mittelborg is the heart of this world and thousands of swords and spears are aimed at it.
There are monsters, nomads, mercenaries, the living dead, rebellious spirits. It is all
diverse. Chaos does not sleep, but besieges the World between the Worlds. Collect
resources, get ready for Tempests, keep guards on the walls and magicians on the
towers. There will be a lot of blood, but remember what is at stake. It is better to shed a
gallon of blood than to lose a single leaf from the branch of the World Tree.

 Think and rule!

In Mittelborg, nothing happens without the Chancellor’s knowledge, which means that
you will have to make hard decisions all the time. Who to sacrifice: a warrior or a mage?
Do you execute or pardon? Spend the Aether on the repairs or to enhance the
weapons? Have a drink or poison the cup? Power is a heavy burden... will you protect
what’s most sacred, or will you drench it in blood... will you succeed or will you fail?

 Fight, die, fight again!

A human life is worth nothing in a world where waves of Chaos swamp the shores of
Order. It is insanely easy to die here, so no one thinks about tomorrow. No one but you:
you are the only immortal one. You become a little smarter, returning after the regular
death. You hone the strategy, you save all previous experience that will help you endure
a little bit longer this time.

 The world is huge.

You have a long and dangerous path before you. There will be dozens of worlds and
hostile races, hundreds of unique events, thousands of intertwined destinies and stories
... and you have to navigate all the perils, making wise choices.

 Music — a powerful magic!

As the Chancellor, your rule will be accompanied by 10 original orchestral soundtracks. Together with music you are bound to succeed!
