What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a two-man indie developer studio without publisher we knew that it will be much harder to finalize our game Absinth and optimize the experience for the gamers without the help of the community. As an Early Access title Absinth can now be also directed by the community through your feedback and suggestions to improve it in regard of further story content, bugs, controls and level design together with gamers for gamers.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“If nothing dramatical blocks the further development our plan is to stay in Early Access until Q4/19. In Q2/19 we planned to publish the first content update which will include Act III of the game. Later on Act IV will be released in Q4/19 as the final part of the full game.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The game will leave its Early Access status as soon as the final fourth act will be released so that all the content of the main storyline will be completed then. Furthermore we want an ideal experience for all gamers of psychological horror. Therefore we plan to advance the game together with the community in regard of further story content, bugs, controls and level design.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the current state of the game you will be able to play the first and second Act of the main storyline. The full game will contain four Acts in total. The last two acts will become available during the second and the fourth quarter of 2019.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price when Absinth is leaving the Early Access status and will be the full version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are constantly building up an inner circle of gamers and streamers. Therefore we would like to use the Steam Community Forums and additional platforms such as Twitch, Reddit and Discord to get as much opinions as possible to create the best possible experience for psychological horror fans.”

Absinth | Patch Notes V0.82

Hello everyone!

Happy belated new year 2019 to everyone! We are very happy to bring you our 2nd patch, which is now live.

This January patch includes mainly bug-fixes, improvements on our quests and other general improvements to revamp your experience in Absinth.

As usual, we'd like to thank everyone for your continual support!

Have a great day,
Your blackHound Studios team

Section 1: Main Menu / In-game Menu
Section 2: Act I - Police Dept.
Section 3: Act II - Redwoods

Section 1: Main Menu / In-game Menu

-Added an epilepsy warning in the loading screen image.

-Fixed an issue where the loading screen showed too many decimal places such as ''1.926157%''. Now there are integers like 1%, 10%, 50%.

-Fixed other general minor issues.

-Improved the main menu ''options'' section to include 3 tabs: ''General'', ''Graphics'' and ''Controls''. Note that the controls cannot be changed.

-Re-adjusted the brightness scroll bar in the graphics menu. Previously it only had 2 'effective' brightness levels, now it has up to 10. The maximum brightness it can go up to has increased slightly from patch 1 (still not recommended to increase it unless strictly necessary).

Section 2: Act I - Police Dept.

-Added some context as to why you are unable to wield the weapons on the floor. More to come in the following patches.

-Added a new feature where you no longer require internet to complete the game. Instead, all files necessary are now saved locally as part of the game.

-Improved the AI pathing of the main monster. Now it does not get stuck on some random objects which sometimes prevented it from chasing you.

-Improved the 'screen shaking' and 'sound effects' trigger zones, especially when there was no real ''event''.

-Improved some of the jump scares in various ways (no spoilers!).

-Increased the speed of the main monster. Good luck!

-Fixed an issue where sometimes you were unable to run.

-Fixed a labeling issue where one of the shelves in the interrogation room said ''locked you need a key''. This label has now gone.

-Fixed several typos.

-Fixed a variety of other minor errors.

Section 3: Act II - Redwoods

-Improved the intro scene. It now introduces the AR glasses better.

-Improved the scenery for one of the initial scares.

-Improved the scenery inside the church and its surroundings. The clues have also been improved as well as the capabilities of the shovel to improve the realism.

-Improved trigger zones for several dialogues. Now it will only trigger in places where it makes sense.

-Improved the wording of some of the notes.

-Improved slightly the lighting of certain objects inside houses.

-Fixed an issue with the side-quest. Before, you were unable to enter the room if you got the key before interacting with the door to open it. Now you can complete the side quest without issues.

-Fixed a labelling issue where some house doors were not supposed to be interactable.

-Fixed a variety of other minor errors.

-Removed the 'RSS' icon when using the AR glasses that had no meaning or use to improve the visuals.

About This Game

Absinth is a psychological horror-thriller by indie developer blackHound Studios. Explore the chilling world of Zane Zaminsky and discover the unsettling events of his past.

It is a weekend in late July 2018 when Zane visits the US California Redwoods only to disappear without a trace shortly after arrival. Two days later, the local Police Department locates Zane on the main road near the Redwoods after receiving an anonymous tip. Chief Inspector Carter opens the investigation a few hours later, only to discover that not only does Zane have no recollection of the past two days, but the fact that he has a daughter has been completely wiped from his memory. As the investigation unfolds, more and more clues surface to suggest Zane’s past hides more than the just the answer to his amnesia.

Experience what happened to Zane and how his life changed overnight. Hide yourself from the unknown and try to distinguish between reality and illusion. Solve dimension-unravelling riddles to reach your targets and uncover the intrigue which brought Zane’s life to ruin. Decipher secret documents to expose the truth and win against your own mind to survive. Use the innovative AR glass to analyze your environment and constantly find new ways to avoid the encounter with the devious AI.

Absinth takes you to a world of fear, darkness and loss, but also hope. The duplicitous presentation of scenes combined with the classic dark atmosphere will have your emotions twisted and in a constant state of heightened adrenaline.
