What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Its because we need your help to make the best 2.5D engine possible.

The Unfolding Engine is going to take a while to realise the vision of what it can be. As well as this we are wanting to build a community of people while the software is being developed to help it become as accessible to many people as possible. We want you to help us talk about what you would like from the program, what you don't like about it, what you want us to do more of, and what way would you like the community to be set up.

Many programs release their programs too late without getting feedback from gamers, and as a result things that could of been corrected in a beta form could of been addressed before it was too late. That is why we are using a early access model. While glitches may be frustrating designing an engine around community feedback creates a program in the end that is far more to what people want then what we could make.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until all features are implemented to a commercial quality. Which in estimate will be at the end of 2019.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“At the moment the Unfolding Engine shows the philosophy of the program, all of the design processes are in the game right now. Certain conditions can cause the game to crash as well as some processes are awkward. We aim to make every process as efficent as possible.

The full version will be very stable as well as this have a range of tools to assist in making of the games/mods that come out of this. As well as this a range of assets to be included into the final release that will allow users and groups of people to make a beautiful indie game together or solo.

Planned Features
  • Online support.
  • Group Modding Projects.
  • Steam Workshop implementation of assets and worlds.
  • More stable builds
  • Skeletal Animations
  • Armour and Equipment
  • Weapon combat
  • and much more

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently the following features are in

Features.

  • One Click 2.5D Placement.
  • Open World Engine.
  • A Demo World including Developers Commentary.
  • Lighting effects.
  • Dynamic Sound effects .
  • One Click Door pla[cement.
  • The Mossgrown Asset Kit containing an array of landscapes and vegetation.
  • Continual updates.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price as more features are added in and shipped.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The whole focus of the engine is to create a Pro-Modding community. Everything outside of the source-code is designed to be tweaked, edited, built upon, and everything that isnt yet - will be as much as the development allows. We will find ways of facilitating community groups and events.

We are using a combination of Discord chatroom / Steam community groups as well as incremental updates to engage community responses on the development. As well as this twitter will be used as well as community conversations will happen in which we will request users to talk about what parts they would like changed or have more of. We are planning livestreams down the line as well for Q&A. As well as this we will read reviews of the product based on the updates and engage whether or not we are improving the product or not based on the reviews and analytics.”
