What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Geometry Defense is a game I have been working on for the last 3+ years. While is appears to be a simple game it is a TON of work for an individual. I wanted to wait for the game to be 100% ready for Steam but I need "testers" before a complete launch and extra income certainly helps as well. I used an EA model on Android which provided invaluable feedback to me which allowed me to identify and fix many issues before launch.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I will not launch Geometry Defense until "it is ready" - my best estimates suggest 2 - 3 months. That is for the completion of "core PC" functionality. Even upon the exit of EA, there are several features I want to bring to the game if it is successful.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Geometry Defense will be considered "launch ready" when all PC specific features are complete (keybindings, additional UI settings, and enhanced effects), the single-player campaign is finished, and Steam integration is complete (achievements, cloud save, etc.)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Most of the "core" features are in place and pretty mature. The game has gone through numerous updates in the mobile version. Balance is an ongoing effort but is pretty decent.

The current features include:
  • 2 Game modes: Endless & Campaign.
  • 15/18 towers are implemented (support towers are the remaining branch).
  • 5/8 Planets (Campaign mode missions).
  • 8/9 Abilities.
  • Full Research Tree.
  • 8 basic enemy types.
  • 4 bosses.
  • 12 maps.
  • In-game encyclopedia.
  • Limited graphical options and settings.

The game is controlled via mouse only at this time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access users can expect to gain access at a discounted price. The price will increase at launch. IF multi-player is ever added the price will increase further.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will continue to be active in all stores (Google Play, Apple App Store, Steam) and communities (Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube).

Many features and tweaks have already been included based on feedback of the mobile version. I plan to continue this model for the life of the game.”

Geometry Defense Update v1.6.007

Hello all!

The main highlight of this patch are tweaks to the save system to avoid data loss. Keep in mind that the game has a single save file that is automatically updated. If you do not exit the game via the main menu you will risk losing progress. This patch now syncs the progress with the save system more often but if the game is closed unexpectedly some progress will be lost.

I haven't been very active lately but I am working on balancing my time better to ensure a regular cycle of updates.

Highlights
  • Fixed progress loss bug. NOTE: Data loss is still possible if you exit the game using ALT+F4 or by killing the task. The risk has been mitigated with this patch significantly.
  • New and improved bloom technique.
  • Removed machine translated languages.
  • Fixed bug in secondary damage for Cannon and Rocket Towers.
  • Minor fixes and tweaks.

Known Issues
  • Mac/Linux does not clear the enemy path. Once enabled it stays on until restart. Can no longer reproduce - anyone still seeing this?
  • Enabling the path when the build menu up will also cause it to become stuck in an enabled state.
  • Using Fullscreen can have issues when ALT+TAB is used. Typically the resolution will become messed up. This seems to be an engine issue but I am looking for a fix.
  • Sword ability still not usable via hotkey.

Next Update Focus
  • Key re-mapping and option menu enhancements.
  • Build menu revamp.

On the Horizon
  • Sandbox mode/options for Endless mode.
  • Campaign overhaul.
  • New enemies and towers.

    2. Left CTRL for showing the enemy path.
    3. Space to Start Waves.

    5. Q, W, E, A, S, D for controlling tower building.
    6. Arrows can be used to navigate build-able tiles.
  • Enemy path overlay and 2x speed buttons can now be toggled.
  • Improved the overall looked of the options menu and fixed numerous resolution issues. NOTE: The game can no longer be scaled in Windowed mode.
  • Saved game data is now exported to "GeometryDefenseSave.dat" which is located in "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Zebec Games\Geometry Defense" on Windows.
