What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Plungerhorse is a small, 5 man team. While we have very large hopes for Zero Sum Future, we simply cannot create a full title in good time. We chose early access because not only does it allow for us to engage with our community sooner, but it also provides an opportunity to develop a genuinely enjoyable multiplayer experience with the input of people who enjoy playing our game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope to continue improving our game for at least the next 6 months, perhaps longer depending on what features the community wants.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan on increasing the scope of Zero Sum Future in the following ways:

-Ranked ladder play
-Tournaments
-A powerful map editor
-Multiplayer custom games
-Single-player campaign
-Challenge mode with a global leaderboard
-A robust and challenging AI for offline play

We would also like to improve our GUI, visual fidelity/aesthetics and of course optimize performance and stability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“While still a little rough around the edges, Zero Sum Future is a full multiplayer experience: We have tutorials, rebindable keys and adjustable options, all the basic features one would expect from a PC game. There exists a skirmish vs AI and a lobby browser to play with your friends. The gameplay itself, while not quite polished or bug-free, is mostly complete and wicked fun, especially with friends.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will not change as we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“In a word: Extensively. Our team fully understands that multiplayer games, especially those yearning to be competitive, need to respect player feedback. We engage with our fans on any platform they prefer, and very regularly take their input into our development process. It's not uncommon for a community complaint or idea to materialize into the next weekly update.

v1002 Quality of Life Improvements

Thanks to everyone who tried out Zero Sum Future over the free weekend and gave us feedback. Based on all the comments we got, we're pushing out a quick quality-of-life update:

1) The volume of the music in game has been reduced by 40%.

2) The in-game menu is now more descriptive and has a return to game button.

3) Zero Sum Future will no longer move the camera and/or draw certain UI elements when the game is not in focus. Alt-tabbers, rejoice!

4) Right clicking while placing a building will now cancel the placement.

5) Hydrogen and Silicon mines now do not allow the user to place themselves on locations without resource nodes.

6) The game now continues processing player commands (build, destroy, use powers) during single-player pause.

As always, we take feedback very seriously, so let us know if there's anything else you'd like to see addressed.

About This Game

Zero Sum Future is about turning a fledgling colony into an economic engine that can withstand anything. Build up different industries, supply colonists with goods, and use dirty tactics in a frantic bid to be the last colony standing.

Build Your Colony

Start in an untouched solar system and build up the infrastructure your colony needs to survive, like food, housing, and power. Once you provide for your colonists' basic needs, you can turn your attention to more lucrative, high-tech industries. Be on the lookout for competing colonies, though – their growth comes at your expense.

Expand Across the Entire Solar System

Every planet that you see you can build on, but real estate is first come first serve. Fill up desolate planets with valuable industries, or take the fight to your opposition, contesting industries on their home planet and disrupting their income streams.

Deceive Your Opponents

In Zero Sum Future, you have a wide variety of Illegal Buildings at your disposal. These look exactly like a legal counterpart, but have a different, supercharged effect. However, if an opponent Investigates your illegal activity, you will lose your ill-gotten gains and suffer a financial penalty.

Muscle Out the Competition

Take over buildings, monopolize a planet's consumers, brainwash colonists, or steal shipments of goods. These are just a few of your options for disrupting an enemy's operations.

Survive

While defending against increasingly aggressive opposition, you will also have to contend with colonists demanding a better standard of living, a central government levying massive taxes, and the demands of managing your multi-planet empire. Do you have what it takes to bring it all home in a zero-sum race for riches?
