Why Early Access?

“We want to create the best experience possible and balancing an MMORPG is an extremely difficult undertaking (especially for such a small studio!) Early Access will allow us to work with our players to make some changes to the content whilst the rest of the game is still being built.”

“Full release is planned for Q1 of 2019.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There'll be a lot of polish added once things like balancing has been done and the full release may have entirely reworked systems to those that currently exist in Early Access. This all depends on user feedback and what we feel the community want changed from Early Access launch to full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and has tens of hours of content although things may be unbalanced and unpolished. Everything detailed in the About This section is implemented (including all 41 encounters, 3 dungeons, 3 raids and PvP via PvE) although community features such as Guilds and the Auction House may not be entirely feature complete.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will gradually increase as we release new content and features and shift from Alpha to Beta.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll be interacting with the community via the Steam Community Hub page and will post dev blogs to the News section at least once a week.

All changes to balance and progression systems will be based on this feedback and we'll hold regular Q & A threads to really get an idea of what our players are wanting next for the game.”

BrawlQuest: The Micro MMO

Hi all,

It's been almost a year now without an update, just frequently further back release dates. That isn't good. I'm not happy about that.

Earlier in the year I made the decision to recode BrawlQuest from scratch. I'm the sole developer on this and between starting the game and reaching today I've had three different developer jobs and gone through University. I know a lot more now than I did back then and working with the original BrawlQuest engine was a pain.

I've set a new release date of November 1st and reaffirmed the design philosophy behind BrawlQuest. These follow:

BrawlQuest is a micro MMO
That doesn't really mean anything solid but to me it means that the game is small but deep. I want to cultivate a game that has rich content that doesn't take 1000s of hours to explore fully. I want players to feel like 20 minutes a day is enough to keep up to date without the more hardcore players feeling like there isn't enough to do. The game therefore focuses on skillful combat that's easy to get into but difficult to master.

This extends to the scope of the game at launch: where before there were around 8 different zones planned there will now be just 1. That single zone will feature several hours worth of repeatable content and for the first 6 months of the game's life I'll be endeavouring to release a new zone every month.

BrawlQuest is a game, not a product
The overhead on this project is very small, even with server costs being taken into account. That's why the game will have no microtransactions and no subscription fee. There'll be frequent free updates and I'm aiming to release an expansion back once every 6 months: this will be paid for content but won't ever cost more than £4.99.

I'm looking forward to the future of this project and the community that'll grow along the way. I appreciate the patience of those few who have been excited for this release since day 1. We'll get there, very soon!

A large open world

Enter the world and be dropped into Squal's End: a small village to the West of the capitol city of Swordbreak. The world of BrawlQuest is designed to be a manageable size so as to not overwhelm new players but fits in a dense amount of content. There are secrets to be uncovered and wars to be won on your own or with friends.

Team up and form a guild

Guilds require just 2 players to sign a charter to start and offer players the ability to form communities and rivalries. Capture any mob - even raid bosses - and use them to take over and protect Shrines within the Northern Forest from other guilds in an entirely new PvP via PvE system. Rally your guild mates daily to complete 3 player dungeons and intense 5 player raids.

15 spells: hundreds of potential combinations

Each spell offers a different utility from causing straight up damage to healing to turning your enemies into chickens. You can equip only two spells at any one time in any combination you want: even two of the same spells. Apply different stats as you level up to min max your damage output for your desired spells and form strategies with guild mates before entering tougher content.

No subscription or microtransactions
