What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“At Craft Game Studio we believe that it is vital for a game to have the community involved in the development process of the game. Whether this would be making suggestions about tweaking the game’s existing content or coming up with completely new ideas, we appreciate every input.
This is why we thought that it would be a great idea to release the game in early access, do that the community can help shape the game as soon as possible.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As of right now we think that the game will be out of early access somewhere in the next six months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main difference between the full game and the early access release will be all-round improvement of the game. This would include things like fixing bugs that we haven’t been able to find yet, tweaking damage numbers to be even more balanced, and improving the overall user experience.
As developers of the game we feel that it is vital to make sure that the game is in a good state before adding a lot of new content. While this does not mean that the full release of the game won’t have any new content, it does mean that we put a higher priority on fixing existing issues than we do on introducing new content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As of right now the game includes three game modes:
Conquest - The main game mode of the game, in which players are tasked with retrieving an ancient treasure from a well guarded fortress. This game mode can be played with one or two teams consisting of one to four players.

Deathmatch - This game mode is a classic deathmatch. Two teams of one to four players are tasked with utterly destroying the enemy team’s ship. Rewards that can help you bring down the enemy team spawn every 30 seconds in the center of the map, forcing both teams in close distance from each other for some explosive results!

Arcade - This game mode can only be played with one player. The player is tasked with following a route as fast as possible while taking down as many target ships on the way. The game mode is designed to be quick and intensive. This game mode is also score based and has highscores in different categories.

Both Conquest and Deathmatch can be played with two different ship types; large and small. Small ships have less firing power but can be more easily manned by a smaller crew (one to two players is ideal), while the larger ship has superior firing power but needs a bigger crew to be properly manned.

On both ships players can freely walk around and interact with different components of the ship such as steering the ship, loading and firing cannons, raising and lowering sails, climbing to the crow’s nest, and much much more.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of the game might increase by a modest amount upon leaving early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use the feedback received from the community to resolve issues in the game, and further improve the player experience. Also we are always open for suggestions to rework existing content or add in completely new content.

So community feedback is more than welcome!

Crooked Waters is a multiplayer virtual reality game where players immerse in thrilling sea fights. Together with your fellow pirates you'll try to survive the clash with other pirate ships.

Weigh the anchor! Load the cannons! Set sail!

The ship won't conquer the enemy on it's own, and it needs its crew. Are you a captain? A cannoneer? Or a mere Scallywag? There is no rank when you're in the heat of battle. Adjust the sails so you'll have the speed advantage, supply your cannoneers with ammo or chant some Yo Ho Ho! and Ye He He to keep the morale high. Sink those Scurvy Dogs when you get the chance, because there is no room for others in these Crooked Waters.

In Crooked Waters' newly added gamemode "Conquest", you and up to three other players man a pirate vessel and venture into uncharted territory to fight for the famous treasure that is hidden deep in a heavily fortified fortress. But watch your step, the treasure is heavily guarded by a cursed skeleton army. And where there is treasure there are bound to be other pirates nearby.

So keep the cannons loaded and your weapons ready, and it might be your crew claiming the treasure.

Key features:

  • Play your way - Crooked Waters Conquest game mode can be played with one (co-op) or two (versus) teams consisting of one to four players. And with two available ship types you can always choose a ship suitable for your team size. This way you can always play the game, no matter how many players are in your game, without feeling like you are missing out.
  • Free movement - Climb in the crowsnest, sprint over the deck and fire the cannons, go down below deck to grab rewards. Move freely around the ship using locomotion or touchpad movement and experience true freedom!
  • Easy to learn, hard to master - With intuitive controls and clear indicators the game teaches you the basics and sets you up to start mastering all kinds of different mechanics that set your crew apart from the others.
