Why Early Access?

“I truly believe that this is shaping up to be a very playable game, but it's taken a lot of my spare time to get to this point. I'm now working constantly, polishing it, adding content, game modes, more eye candy, features and balancing the gameplay, and generally hoping to see if it's something that players might genuinely play and enjoy on a long-term basis (as I'm looking at it with a creator's eyes, so I'm a little biased!).

I welcome any ideas and improvements by players to make the game better / add more modes / life to it, and as below, I already have a TON of ideas and enhancements to add to it, hence I think that offering it for early access will give the community an opportunity to play it earlier, add input and feedback, support it's development, and motivate me to devote much more development time to it, so generally a win-win!!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Estimating approximately 20-24 weeks from it's current state (although at present it's fully playable, but cramming more features and enhancements in), mainly as I have a full-time day job, which impacts on my indie game development time.

It may even be sooner, and may possibly be slightly longer due to added features etc (I'll know more, once the community gets involved! - I'm always open to (and appreciative of!) helpful suggestions for features and improvements to the core gameplay, playability, etc of my games!)”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The core gameplay functionality will remain the same, but with some BIG enhancements to the overall package, with additional game modes, POWER-UP 'goodies' modes to mix it up, and other planned additions that I'm going to work through trying to add, such as:-

  • 100's of (some unlocked and ready to play, with others unlockable via beating CPU opponents), ready-made levels to beat or play on, with more packs released for FREE, from myself, and the community (community submitted levels will have to first be vetted for offensive or too similar content, obviously!), then regularly released as part of the continuous updates process.
  • Adding a PENTAMINO mode, or even mode with a mixed / random mix of both - It's harder to place Pentaminos than Tetraminos!
  • Loads more unique playing boards included, to choose from!
  • BIG Bonuses for completely managing to clear ALL tiles on fully clearable levels!
  • Different sized tiles levels, allowing for creating some tiny (or HUGE!) levels/layouts, some with more 'pixel' detail for the artists out there! :D
  • Enhancing the already-in-place, usable LEVEL Creator Exporter / Importer (either for emailing, or via Steam if possible - Shareable Levels make a community!).
  • Even cleverer / sneakier CPU opponents - and more of them!
  • SOLO untimed and BLITZ modes! Again, with a BIG Bonus for completely managing to clear ALL tiles on fully solvable boards, with or without a set percentage of IQ/Efficiency required (Points scored vs Maximum Points achievable)
  • KIDS mode - With a Lower range of possible numbers per tile, on the board, and CPU players more suited to younger players.
  • Steam achievements and challenges! - ranging from Solo board clears, Levels beaten, beating the CPU players, beating the best time (AT at least X% IQ), and many more!
  • Cloud saving of saved games, created or downloaded user levels, etc, etc!
  • KIDS mode - With a Lower range of possible numbers per tile, on the board.
  • Running tally of all players' average skill level (Points scored per turn, vs. Points available)
  • Achievements and challenges! - ranging from Solo board clears, Levels beaten, beating the CPU players, beating the best time (AT at least X% IQ), and many more!

Additionally, you will be able to play in STANDARD mode, CLEARANCE mode (Solo), or POWER-UP mode - with POWER-UP mode revealing hidden bonuses on the board if uncovered, which can drastically alter the outcome of the game! - Some examples are:-

  • FLIP - Will completely FLIP the current board's state - unused tiles will disappear, USED tiles will be refreshed!
  • REVERSE - Will completely reverse ALL tiles' values on the board's - HIGH tiles will become LOW, and vice-verse!
  • TRADE - Will allow the player to TRADE pieces with any other player if it gives them the chance of a better scoring move!
  • (X 2) - Will score DOUBLE points for any move that it's used on!
  • DOWNFALL - Will drop all active tiles down, until they hit either an obstacle or another tile!
  • SWAP - Will remove the current piece, and replace it with another random piece (which could also be identical!)

In addition to this, some bonuses in some POWER-UP modes do not go to the Player who uncovers them (i.e. FLIP, DOWNFALL, REVERSE, etc), but are either used immediately, or placed in a tray, ready to be used by the game itself if say, a board is exhausted (no more moves by anyone are possible), etc...

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully-playable Standard SOLO or Competitive gameplay, for up to 4 players (any mix of CPU or Human, with 5 levels of CPU player currently available - to be expanded to 20+!) :)

A playable selection of 20+ (and growing rapidly!) levels to play on to get a feel for the game!

A usable level / layout creation editor built-in, to add your own unlocked levels to play and beat your friends or the CPU players on! (You can create up to 500 user levels!!)

The game is pretty much done from the standard mode gameplay perspective, with challenging (and easier too!) CPU players to take on (or friends if preferred), and a good selection of basic layouts / levels to play on!

TetraLogical also now features some fantastic audio tracks to play to, from the amazing musician/composer widely known as SKAVEN (Peter Hajba) of Future Crew (and also responsible for the music in another VERY well-known jewel-based puzzler franchise) - These fantastic music tracks have added a HUGE amount of atmosphere and ambience to TetraLogical, and I'm over the moon to be able to include them as the game's soundtrack, thanks to Peter's generosity!!

Currently the menu layout and navigation needs to be made more intuitive, and some graphics are placeholders, but will of course be polished up moving forwards, as we all (my kind supporters and I) approach a LIVE release.

PS - For background/peace of mind, I've done game development for a while. This is my FIRST Steam / PC / Mac game, but is actually the FOURTH published game that I've created - I've created a few popular mobile games prior to this, but I've since found that I much prefer to create PC / Mac based games... (Admittedly, a mobile version will follow later on, in an ads-revenue supported model, unlike the STEAM version which of course is a one-time payment, full purchase, and NO ads) :)”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, for Early Access, the price will be set lower to support those members of the community who help support the game's development. :)

As the support of early adopters is very appreciated (both to give an idea of interest, and to motivate my late-night (and early morning!) coding and development sessions), the price will initially be lower during Early Access, and will be set at a higher, more standard price given the additional content, game modes, and features that will be in place upon release, for those who have not yet purchased it during this Early Access stage, by the time of it's official / completed release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will be putting out regular (minimum fortnightly) coding and progress updates / screenshots and info, and listening to any input from the community to try and implement ideas and improvements (if feasible without impacting the release date greatly, and none-game breaking).

Basically, if my fellow Steam community members have supported me and bought into my game, then the least I can do is give them a chance to have some input into how it turns out, and well, it's a win-win situation! - you guys should get the exact game that you probably want it to become, and I get some help with testing and ideas along the way... :)”

The clever stuff is IN!...

Thanks to my good friend and all round genius.... :)

...so Puzzle Mode will be cracked on with and integrated, along with additional levels, some other tweaks, and more coloured tiles to build your creations (and mine!) with...

Additional colours are already in place (24 colours/shades now in total, with more to come, and hey! - more colour choices are always good!), once I'm back from London (training course for my day job....)

I'll be able to start integrating Puzzle Mode and some new Leaderboards next weekend, so it won't be long from there - it's fairly simple to add now that the important stuff (the user fairness/experience) is sorted!

Argh, now I've just gotta wait 4 whole days before I can code again back at home... :(

We're getting there!! - on track for Puzzle Mode in 2-3 weeks at this rate! :)

Hi All! - okay, we've (a good friend is now helping me out) written a doozy of a routine to intelligently allocate your pieces on any board, at any point,, and so far it's looking really good, and more importantly, FAST! (So fast in fact, that almost all of the time, on a medium spec PC, you won't even realise that it's doing it's clever thing to ensure that you're NOT cheated out of a well-played puzzle completion, by giving you a 'bad' / board-breaking / none-optimal moves sequence of pieces) ;)

(Of course, if you don't actually play the pieces that you've been allocated *well*, or thinking ahead, then you can still render a level un-completable... :) So it's still up to yourself, and skilful play! ...)

So yes, Puzzle Mode (and of course, some related achievements and Leaderboards!) is getting there, and once included, leaves me free to look into next adding...

ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!

About This Game

A turn-based slotting in / strategy game with a BIG twist!



Play either solo (un-timed, or against the clock, or even the addictive new BLITZ! mode!), or against up to 3 CPU *or* Human players.

Take turns to place your pieces onto the board, trying to score the maximum points you can with your current piece, each turn. (and in TIMED modes, in as fast a time as you can for bonus points, and be quick! - or you may lose your turn...)

BIG points are not the ONLY way to play the game - you can also play sneakily (as well as strategically) too, to stop your opponents from getting a better score, or force the end of the game by blocking potential moves by your opponents! - Once the board is exhausted, if enabled, a one-time DOWNFALL can turn the tide, and create a few more moves!

Currently features:-

  • Tetraminos - but used in a never-before-seen way to strategically play / fight for the highest score/best move!
  • A selection of 47 (so far!) unique board layouts already included to play on already (with more being added, up to the planned limit of nearly 500, including the best from the community!)
  • A built-in Level Editor! - A layout creation editor is already included inside the game, to amend or create up to 500 of your own layouts/levels to play immediately, or even for submission, community rating and incorporation into regular (and of course, *FREE*) extra levels packs coming soon!).
  • Some VERY sneaky CPU opponents! ;)
  • SOLO game mode - Try to beat your best efficiency/scores for any given level, either in relaxed, timed or the *new* BLITZ and LIMITED MOVES modes!
  • SOCIAL/COMPETITIVE mode - Try to beat your friends and a selection of 21 (so far) intelligent CPU opponents with varying skill levels and styles of play.
  • Music Jukebox and a selection of superb music tracks from SKAVEN to play along to, for added ambience!
  • Once-per-game, end game DOWNFALL, to mix the endgame up a bit, in STANDARD MODE (Active all of the time in BLITZ and LIMITED MOVES modes!).
  • Includes a HUGE selection of Leaderboards to challenge, and already has almost 100 *meaningful* Stats & Achievements for skillful playing included, some easier, some harder, some VERY hard to get (and some just plain quirky / thinking outside the box!), and CPU beating! (the final game will feature around 200 *meaningful* achievements to get, with a few of the quirkier ones being hidden until achieved!)

Give it a try! - If you love strategy or puzzle games, cerebral challenges, either SOLO or beating your friends or the computer on them, I think you'll like it as it stands, and certainly with what I intend to add to it!
