What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Identity is an absolutely enormous undertaking, especially for our modest team. In order to get you into the game and experiencing what Identity offers as soon as possible, we're releasing small pieces called modules, leading up to Identity's full retail release.

You can now play the first module, Town Square. In the future your game will be expanded with additional modules such as SWAT and Racing before the release of Identity.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect one year of development between each module release, as well as the full Identity release. This time will be greatly affected by our resources; as more people purchase Identity our team grows and development will hasten. Help us spread the word!

With our current pace, we estimate that the SWAT module will be complete in late 2019, the racing module in 2020 and the feature-complete Identity beta will begin in 2021. These are not to be taken as release dates but as our current best estimates.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early access will begin with the Town Square social module, followed by a SWAT module which focuses on competitive and realistic combat, and finally a car racing simulator. These modules allow you to experience the core elements of Identity before release.

After all modules are available, you'll gain access to the beta/early-access version of Identity as a whole. It is at this point where you'll have full character progression systems, access to the entire game world, persistent gangs and crime, the entire police force and more.

Identity is currently in the Town Square module release!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The first Identity module, Town Square, is currently available for play. The Town Square will be continuously expanded upon as we're developing the second module, SWAT.

The Town Square module does not contain much of Identity's full gameplay, but includes all character creation and customization, player housing (including furnishing), NPC shops, the cinema, karaoke and more social features. The Town Square allows you to get your character into the world and meet new friends.

The SWAT module will expand this to include weapon systems and competitive cops versus criminals gameplay, which will be followed by vehicles and racing. Finally, early access will be expanded to include the Identity beta before full retail launch. Those who purchase Identity on Steam during early access will have full access to all of these phases including the retail release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“While currently undecided, we may gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Identity is a large project, and we're very open to feedback from the community and those who are supporting its development. Voice your suggestions and feedback on the official forums; the Identity development team keeps a close eye on them and we'll consider any great ideas.”

While our focus has been on mechanics for the next module, SWAT, we've put together a bunch of fixes and improvements for today's update!

We've been building on the weapon mechanics as our primary focus. Once we feel that the weapons are in a state that we feel is ready for the public, we'll be giving you access to a few in the Town Square. In preparation for this, we've opened up the basement of the police station where the shooting range is located.

The patch is rolling out on Steam right now. Drop in to check out the changes!

Identity Update v1.0.2.4826

  • Added new VOIP backend system, greatly increasing quality of voice sounds.
  • Character movement has been refactored to allow for better polish and feature expansion in the future. This also now allows you to sprint in all directions.
  • TVs in apartments are now functional. Play YouTube videos, synchronized for everyone around.
  • Added additional TV sizes in the furniture shop.
  • The police have carelessly left the door to the basement unlocked. The shooting range functionality will be coming soon.
  • You can now initiate emotes by using chat commands. Type /emote in chat for a list of options. For example, writing /point in chat will make your character point their finger.
  • Added a soccer ball to knock around in the public area.
  • Refactored the way the camera changes when sprinting. It's now based properly on your speed.
  • You'll no longer hear people in other instances (apartments, cinema, etc).
  • Added more ambient sounds in character selection. Adjusted the volume of the background music.
  • Fixed bug with falling popcorn particle animation in the cinema lobby.
  • Fixed display bug when sitting in a chair while crouched.
  • The action radial menu will now appear more reliably when interacting with objects that have more than one action (hold your use key).
  • Adjusted lighting in several interior areas at night.
  • Lighting outside is now a bit brighter at night.
  • Fixed a bug which could cause footwear to blink in and out of visibility when running.
  • Added cloth physics back on the summer dress and flags.
  • Placed carrots are no longer 6 feet tall. We almost didn't want to fix this one.
  • Skin is now less likely to be visible through clothing during some animations.
  • Fixed display bugs with females sitting in chairs.
  • Fixed alignment issues on some seats in the hotel.
  • Added missing bathroom fixtures to some apartment floorplans.
  • Fixed positioning of hipster glasses on females.
  • You can now properly toggle the display of helper messages. This can be done in your game settings or using the F1 key.
  • Added a bunch of bandannas to wear. There are about 10 times more to be added yet.
  • Chairs refactored so that players, especially females, will be seated more precisely.
  • Fixed the sky flicker every several minutes.

Have fun!

Identity Module

The Town Square is the first gameplay module released for Identity. This is not the full Identity game, but an early-release component which allows you access to some social features. Purchase of Identity includes all modules (Town Square, SWAT and Racing) upon completion as well as the full retail game.

About This Game

Identity is a new breed of massively multiplayer online role-playing game where hundreds of players interact in a world of absolute freedom. It's the actions of players which determine your fate and the fate of the world you live in.

When everyone is a real person, you can live as a criminal, a police officer, business person or anything in between. You are in full control of your own future in your pursuit of wealth, glory and power.

Identity takes place in a fictional land in the eastern United States, inspired primarily by the Carolinas and Georgia. The chosen location allows for a huge variety in terrain and environments. You'll encounter dirty cities, beautiful beaches, farmland, snow-capped mountains and everything in between. All of these areas are inspired by real locations in the United States, resulting in an incredibly believable and immersive world.

The Town Square

The Town Square is the first Identity module, which also includes access to future modules and the full Identity game upon its completion. As a social module, the Town Square will allow you to create and customize your characters, meet new friends and enjoy a bunch of interesting and fun things to do. This is your first preview of what's to come with Identity!

Identity's Town Square, a closed-off section of the Ash Hill city center, gives you a sneak peek at some of the items you've received from pledging to Identity. With a few dozen people per town square server, you can hang out and play games with other Identity fans while waiting on future modules and the full Identity world.

Following the Town Square, two additional modules will be released: SWAT and Racing. After all modules are playable, you'll get access to the Identity game as a whole.
