What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

To be transparent and to the point: right now, I am a one man team and there is A LOT of work that goes on behind the scenes to put together a polished game. I don't want to drag this out for too long by getting into the details... but I can only go so fast, and do so much, as a solo developer. Currently, I have completed 4 of the 11 chapters I have written out and if I hope to finish Transcend within the next year, I will need some help. This is why I am here; like any other solo game developer, I am just looking to grow and put together a team that can help me get work done quicker, and at a higher quality.

So what's the difference between you and any other developer?

I can't speak for any other solo-developer, but I can tell you a bit about myself: I started working on Transcend over two years ago with little to no game-development or artistic knowledge; so as you may imagine, this project has largely been a "learn-as-you-go" experience for me--

When I came up with the idea for Transcend, there were some key features I wanted: Firstly, I wanted a game that was going to be different; I wanted every step of the way to feel new, refreshing and most importantly, unpredictable. Secondly, I wanted the game to be a pleasant visual experience, filled with lots of details, and a whole array of contrasting, original colors. And thirdly, I wanted Transcend to have a simple, yet raw and immersive game-play-- easy to pick up, but complex enough to keep an avid gamer challenged.

I know in some of your eyes, I did not succeed with all (or any) of this... but I hope that some of you will enjoy a game that is refreshingly different, challenging, visually appealing, and will always keep you wondering what's next.

So please support by not only purchasing this copy, but by giving the game a sincere try. After all the work and love I've put into making this game, I'd really like to know what you genuinely think.

- Ynor”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I have 4 out of 11 chapters finished. It took me 2 years to finish 4 chapters alone (while learning as I go and laying the framework). If the work is split between one or two experienced team members, we can have the rest finished by this time next year. With that said, I estimate the game will remain in early access for at least 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Transcend in a few words: is about a warrior (you), who is on a journey to prove himself against the greatest warriors to ever exist. To do this, he will transcend time, worlds, and dimensions to challenge and learn from these powerful warriors. To put it simply, the player will be hopping from world to world, each with its own story-line and set of characters.

Future additions: Currently, the layout for the Spartan world is finished and I am working on implementing the story. But this is only the first of many unique worlds. I have 6 total worlds/timelines planned out and sketched. The Spartan, Viking, Samurai, Ninja, Aboriginal, and a world of only beasts and animals. How many of these will actually be completed and finished on release, will depend on your help.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Currently in Early Access: players will have access to the first 4 Chapters of Transcend. Which include the "Prologue" up to and past the combat tutorial. This is a demo to let players know about the story, game-play, and direction of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I still haven't decided this. But I am considering several options:

One- is everyone who purchased the Early Access version, will receive a FREE copy of the final release.

Another idea is- to somehow let the players choose the amount they'd like to purchase the game for. This idea makes the most sense to me, as you would pay whatever you think the game is worth.

Another is to gather some sort of consensus on what the price should be, and decide then.

There are many ways to go about this and I am not confident in making a decision at the present time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

Transcend has many different worlds/timelines planned and there are many different options the community can help me choose to implement.

For example: a Viking world where the player will walk the halls of Valhalla and challenge all the ancient Nordic gods in combat. Or an Asian/Oriental world, where you train and learn from the wise and honorable Samurais. There is also a Ninja world, where you learn the art of using the shadows and surroundings to your advantage. An Aboriginal/Survival world, where you unlock the powers of your "Spirit Beast". I have many great worlds and ideas planned and there are many ways we could take this game together. I am open to hearing ideas and perhaps even implementing an entirely new world if there is enough support and it makes sense.”

About This Game

Transcend is inspired by the unconventional mixture of Ghibli Studio's work and James Cameron's "Avatar." In this refreshing 2D world, you will live the story of a "Spirit" who was given the path of the "Warrior." In order for him to become this "Spirit Warrior," he will need to prove himself by transcending time, worlds, and even dimensions, to challenge the greatest warriors across all existence. You will learn to live like one of them, you will train with them, learn their strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately... you will challenge them. Every decision you make in Transcend will have an evolving effect on the game-play and story.

The story of Transcend is its core feature and it starts from the very beginning... birth. When a new spirit is born, it makes a voyage to what's called the "Spirit World." During this voyage, spirits are assigned a role they are destined for. This is where your journey starts. In Transcend, you will play the story from beginning to end of a Spirit named "Hero," who was chosen to be a "Spirit Warrior." In order for him to fulfill his destiny, he will go through a series of trials and challenges to prove himself. Most of these challenges will revolve around him learning what being a "Spirit Warrior" truly means, and what is required of him. Hero will travel through time to visit some of the greatest warriors EVER: the mighty Spartans, the berserk Vikings, the honorable Samurais and many more... They will learn to use the shadows in the Ninja world and travel across the galaxies to new worlds and civilizations of sentient warriors. Each timeline/world will have its own story/plot, and with each, a lesson Hero (you) will learn.

Transcend's game-play/plot could be described as a mixture of the original Zelda games (with its rewarding yet simple combat/visuals) and Assassin's Creed (traveling through different eras and timelines). This game is being developed by a team of one (myself, Ynor), for the last three years. When I began working on this project, I originally intended to release the game in chunks (I wanted to release the chapters as I finished them), similar to a show or T.V series. This is something I am still really hoping to do. I believe it will give the players a quicker and more rewarding return for their investment, while also allowing me to receive input and shape the game with your help as I go. However, I understand this is something that may sound very unconventional, since it hasn't been done before (that I know of, there are probably other examples). Feel free to let me know how you feel about this idea.
