What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are going EA in order to involve the community and get player feedback as it relates to balancing the game for the maximum amount of twinstick shooter fun.

The other reason for EA is to involve the community in the development of our Challenge/Arena mode. Challenge Mode will offer unique new challenges/arenas on a fairly regular basis which players will compete in for high scores on leaderboards and perhaps other types of competitions as we get player feedback. We want the community to guide us as we develop Challenge Mode based on their interests, including what combat scenarios, competitions, and customization/unlockable options are interesting and exciting. A big part of this mode will be developed based on what the community wants and thus the reason for going EA.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have more content than the Early Access Version.

Additional levels, enemies, bosses, weapons, and rune upgrades will be added to the campaign. As it stands the campaign is a little less than half complete. Story elements not yet present or fully completed will also be added to the campaign.

The full version will also feature a more fleshed out Challenge Mode with many more arenas and challenges to complete and unlock.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and largely representative of how it will be in the final product. Balances may affect the overall difficulty and strength of some weapons, enemies, and upgrades, but the core gameplay is solid and will not change.

The Early Access version consists of less than half of the planned campaign content. It also features only the bare bones of Challenge Mode which we will grow substantially during EA.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will increase upon release and potentially throughout Early Access when large milestones are reached.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to listen to what players are telling us about which aspects of the game work and which don’t. We want to hear the things you want more of and the things you are not as thrilled about. We want to hear frustrations and quality of life issues in order to balance the game better and improve the overall experience. We want to create the most intense and enthralling twinstick shooter with your help!

We also want the community to guide us as we develop our Challenge Mode based on their interests, including what combat scenarios, competitions, and customization options are interesting and exciting. A big part of this mode will be developed based on what the community wants and we are excited to get their input here.”

“Like some sort of twisted fairy tale, Ascending Madness is dazzling and disgusting all at the same time.”

“It's a brilliantly frenetic little shooter with a killer soundtrack... The combat is the undoubted star of the show. Spraying enemies with a machine gun, running out of ammunition, dashing to escape enemy fire, switching to the shotgun instantaneously, and continuing to destroy enemies can be performed effortlessly in the game because the controls are tight and responsive.”
