What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Mechanic Miner has been in development for quite some time and after 4 years of development including 1.5 years of alpha testing, we feel like the game meets the polish and standards for what an Early Access game should be. The development of Mechanic Miner is heavily directed by our community’s feedback and suggestions, releasing Mechanic Miner into Early Access will allow us to expand our community while providing us with the resources and feedback needed to further develop the game in a direction desired by our community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We do not have a set date or range for this, but we expect to use roughly a year in Early Access. Mechanic Miner is that type of game where it’s possible to add an almost endless amount of content (resources, parts, blocks, weapons, enemies, biomes, bosses, etc.) and we wish to add much more before leaving Early Access. Furthermore, we wish to keep on adding content to Mechanic Miner even after Full Release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Because of the endless possibilities, it’s hard to define what a “Full version” of Mechanic Miner would be. The full version of Mechanic Miner is planned to have more content in form of resources, parts blocks, weapons, enemies, biomes, bosses and so on… but how much more is hard to say. What we know is, that we want to add the following on/or before Full release:
  • A complete Story Mode (Currently has 1 act)
  • A non-beta version of Multiplayer
  • Mod-support
We plan to add content regularly during the Early Access, but as mentioned before we also wish to keep adding content after Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of Mechanic Miner has 3 different modes with over 50 different parts/blocks for you to construct with, over 30 different resources for you find, and 20 enemies including a boss for you to fight. The Story Mode currently has 1 act were the player will experience the first part of our protagonist inventor Johns adventure. Survival Mode offers a more challenging experience where the player chooses his or her own path. Creative Mode allows the player endless hours of designing and constructing crazy contraptions. Furthermore, it’s possible for you to share and find contraptions for you to play with through the Steam Workshop. The Early Access of Mechanic Miner also has a beta version of Multiplayer which supports 2-3 players with Creative and Survival Mode unlocked.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price as more content is added. This doesn’t mean we’ll raise the price every time we add a new part or an enemy, but rather in stages when significantly more content has been added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As mentioned before, the development of Mechanic Miner is strongly lead by the feedback and suggestions from our community, and we plan to keep it that way! We have a strong and active Discord where we – the developers – gather feedback on a daily basis and engage with our community. We also have a forum and sub-reddit for those who wish to provide feedback through other channels.”

Patch v.0.5.2 (19.06.2019)

We just released a new patch. This patch includes 5 new parts and a bunch of fixes. The 5 new parts will allow the player to create even more advanced contraptions, especially when cleverly combined.

Here’s a short showcase of the 5 new parts:

Full Patch notes for v. 0.5.2:
• New part: Button. The Button will output a signal for a short duration when clicking 'E' on it.
• New part: Reverse Converter. The Reverse Converter will output a signal if a certain input signal is true.
• New part: Governor Engine. With the Governor Engine it is possible to control the rotation speed by turning the dial on the Governor Engine or opening the Engines UI by clicking 'E' on it. The Governor Engine has 20 different rotation speed options.
• New part: Clutch. The Clutch takes two belt inputs/outputs (rotation) and one cable input. When the signal is on, the two belt inputs/outputs will be connected.
• New part: Rotary Servo. The Rotary Servo outputs rotation with 3 different settings which can be adjusted by turning the dial on the Rotary Servo or opening the Servos UI by clicking 'E' on it. The rotational output will stay at the default setting but turn to one of the two other settings when given a left or right input signal.
• Reduced the resource cost of Air Pump and Air Tether.
• Fixed a crash sometimes occurring if a machine lifted by a Wrot was split in two.
• Fixed a bug where it was possible to complete Act 1 in Story Mode by crossing the ocean placed left to the Marsh area.
• Fixed a bug where removing a part that has a wheel on it from a contraption that is static (placed on a foundation) would cause that part to fly away.
• Fixed a bug where the player would return to Story Mode if they used the respawn at checkpoint option after transferring their Story Mode game to Survival Mode upon completing Act 1.
• Fixed a bug where the player would not get the vehicles that were respawned by Hologram John in Story Mode when transferring a game from Story Mode to Survival Mode upon completing Act 1.
• Fixed a bug where Demon Interceptors would spawn in the Dweller Cave.
• Fixed a bug where anything could get stuck in the Analysis Engines crater during the Dweller cutscene in the Story Mode.
• Fixed a bug where killing enemies at the edge of the players screen would not reward experience.
• Fixed a bug where the fear-counter (caused by right-clicking a mob) would not be reset when a mob would go out of the fear-state.
• Fixed a bug where mobs in fear-state (caused by right-clicking a mob) could still attack.
• Fixed a bug where Piranha would be stuck when in fear-state (caused by right-clicking a mob).
• Fixed a bug where the indicator, showing where to place the cable, would not render clearly enough when connecting cable to the Ballista in the tutorial (Marsh area).
• Fixed a bug where blocks touching a block that a Wrot was about to lift would cause that block to be not grabbable.
• Fixed a bug where foundation on blueprints would not be rotated correctly when trying to place the blueprint.

About This Game

Mechanic Miner is a construction and survival game where you build mechanical steam-powered machines in a physics based sandbox. Gather resources, kill monsters, acquire new technologies and use your imagination to build crazy mechanical devices to conquer any challenges in your way.

In Mechanic Miner you can design and construct any kind of machine! Build a catapult, a submarine, a battle tank or a air balloon - all simulated through the physics engine

Mechanic Miner has over 50 different parts and building blocks for you to play around with, and we’re constantly adding more. You can also share your designs with your friends through the Steam Workshop!

Get creative, get better, build more advanced stuff and become a mechanical mastermind to conquer any challenges that may lie ahead.

In story mode you’re stranded on a strange and treacherous planet, where survival is made difficult by hostile animals and plant life. You did bring a multitool from your home planet, which is able to craft any kind of machine part - provided of course that the right raw material has been found. Relying solely on the technology you brought, you set out to explore this new and unkown world. But the road isn't paved with ease. The surroundings of your new home will threaten and challenge you! You will face waves of monsters and fight unrelenting bosses that show no mercy. To survive and advance the storyline you must acquire the necessary steam-powered technology, that will allow you to delve deeper into the diverse biomes of the planet, and perhaps, ultimately, lead you to your escape.

In creative mode you can let your inner mechanic shine. You can create anything! With unlimited resources at your disposal, immortality and the ability to fly - the only limit is your imagination! Creative mode is great for those who just want to let their creativity flow without limitations, and with the blueprinting tool you can easily make a copy of your contraptions and use them in story or survival mode, if you have the resources for it.

In survival mode you can follow your own path. Start with nothing and explore, gather, research, construct and fight for your survival. Survival mode offers a challenge for advanced players - you will have to use your wit and imagination to create contraptions to withstand the harsh environment, aggressive enemies and devastating Aether Storms that wreak havoc over the planet.

  • Explore a randomly generated sandbox with the option of following the story or creating without limits.
  • Mine the planet for a variety of useful resources to help you construct your own unique mechanical steam-powered machines and devices. The only limit is your imagination!
  • The physics engine powers Mechanical Miner's sandbox and will test your contraptions ability to navigate the harsh terrain.
  • Use your mechanical constructions to fight and defend you and your base from terrible monsters and bosses, will you survive?
  • Create blueprints of your mechanical constructions, use them later in Story or Survival modes, or share them with friends on Steam Workshop and prove who the real mechanical mastermind is.
  • Acquire new technologies and expand your base and building capabilities as you gain experience with the level-based progression system.

Mechanic Miner is still in development and there is so much more to come:

  • Mod-support
  • Full version Multiplayer (currently in beta)
  • More acts in the story mode
  • More parts/blocks/weapons/augmentations
  • More monsters and bosses
