What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“To find a balance of play that only frequent testing and bugfixing can bring we're looking to work with the community to find the ultrafun sweet spot. The last time we participated in Early Access the game became 1000x better thanks to the awesome community here! We're looking for feedback from players who really dig in, so use the steam screenshot system to capture your Early Access Score total along with a wishlist item that should be added/fixed and the community-driven half of the TODO list will be sorted by the posted point totals.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Until it reaches a point that meets the standards of the dev team's original goals. The itemized tasks in our management software work out to around 900 hours of work which will likely increase as we get player feedback. Based on this we estimate the game to be in Early Access for at least 10 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“What exists now is the 5th and most polished prototype for gridCrack with core systems implemented and a modular systems architecture with expansion in mind. It's a far cry from the ultimate dream version but if we have support from the steam community then we're looking forward to finishing everything listed here:

-Image-Based Puzzles: Using downloaded images to generate SP/MP puzzle game
-Cyberpunkier Cities: Unique style and set of assets for each cybercity
-Synthesizers/Drum Machines/DJ Decks: Fully usable music instruments that double as weapons, sending note triggers over network for jammin
-VidSpeak: Dialogue system for unique encounters
-Subroutine Pickups: Attach these to software for buffs
-Software Catalog: Over 80 pieces of useful software, currently only 9
-Synced Terminals: Linux Together!
-Larger Cities: With better level streaming code we can expand cities to include surrounding area
-Deeper MP Experience: Trade software, share quests, shared random events, syncAttacks
-Wrist Menu: Expand wrist displays to upgrade, run background tasks on the go
-Crypto Trading Simulator: Use in-game credits to invest in cryptocurrencies
-WebDebate: Teams representing polar opposite websites debate each other, live-streaming on Youtube Live + Twitch”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently you can:

-Get quests through the email system
-Travel to the quest destination city
-Equip software from a preset menu (future version will be user-configurable)
-Fight against viruses, drones, secured sockets
-Complete research | data retrieval | defense quests and get gridCoins for your efforts
-Travel to 50+ cybercities (future version will have 200+)
-Meet up with other players in city-based lobbies
-Use the 'gridix' VM linux terminal”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access players will get a discount as a thanks for participating in the development process, the final price will be (a bit) higher when it leaves the Early Access program.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our "Early Access Score" system combined with Steam's built-in screenshot submission system will let players post a representation of their investment in the game and use this to sort user's requests for feature additions and tweaks to existing mechanics.”

About This Game

--------------------------[]-------------------------------------

A lot of life has happened since the last update... There are some player security and legal concerns about the content and function of GridCrack that are keeping it from being released. The embedded browser has some serious security problems and including any 3rd party site content requires some abstraction to be completely legal. I'd love to go wild west and just drop it today but these are problems that must be solved before I put anyone at risk. Thanks for your understanding.

--------------------------[]--------------------------

>> As a GridGuardian you'll defend|secure|upgrayedd the local nodes of cyber-cities all over the globe, making the net safe and free for all users >> by coordinating your efforts with top keyboard cowbois and white hat wearing digininjas you can take the fight to crime orgs, governments and megacorps (what's the diff) that take more than they deserve of our precious Grid - it belongs to all of us, time for us to let them know it.

----------------------------------[]--------------------------------------

gridCrack VR is a trip through cyberspace plunging you right into the living internet, using the structure of live web pages to generate gameplay focused on saving The Grid - our new shared digital experience. Today it is under attack by governments, criminal organizations and corporations bent on warping The Grid for their own dark purposes. Work alongside white hat hacktivists who have a plan to keep The Grid free and open forever IF we act fast to stem the tide of opportunists unleashing malicious code on a multitude of hosts. Visit glittering cyber versions of real world cities and defend/secure the real websites that are hosted there.

Each of your hands can equip a piece of software from a library of combat, utility and navigation apps that enable control of the virtual environment. Developed by the GridGuardians, these bleeding edge tools give you an edge in cyberspace where every nanosecond counts when a system is on the brink of collapse. Virtual motorcycles, glowing swords, retractable claws, guns(pew!), music makers, and laser whips await in your software menu - available at any time with a quick button press.

Travel without constraint through 50+ cyber-ified cities like Nairobi, Vancouver, Amsterdam & Las Vegas and feel the music of HOME + BitBurner as it drives visual elements all around you. Rid these local systems of malicious actors and the malware they use to infect systems for their selfish gain. Explore every alleyway and skyscraper together with people on your friends list (or total randos!) using our innovative cooperative multiplayer system that tie players together based on the city they're in.

Unlock the secrets of The Grid by solving abstract puzzles generated from the sites you're tasked to defend. Build optimized mesh networks throughout a city by connecting nodes in the correct order, giving cyber-cities enhanced connectivity that lessen dependence on greedy providers. Research technical topics using a combination of our custom browser integration and the wealth of knowledge that is Wikipedia, then pick up some linux-fu using the embedded gridIX virtual machine loaded with command-line side quests.

You gotta fight for your rights online, it's game over for the corps and govs that try to run our lives - the PEOPLE of The Grid are taking it all back!

----------------------------------[]--------------------------------------

-Dive deep into cyberspace fighting threats to The Grid warping from cyber-city to cyber-city with an intuitive global map system.

-Interact with the internet like never before with browser-integrated quests with sites local to the cyber-city you are in.

-Fight virus swarms and close sockets sending malicious code with an array of cutting edge combat software.

-See and feel the ambient electronic music from HOME as The Grid around you reacts to the beat. Get your ears wrecked by bitburner's dope as hell chipstep tunes when you're in danger zones, the tension feels real when you're surrounded by enemies and the driving bass gets your heart pumping.

-Upgrade your software and install Subroutines as temporary buffs to give yourself an edge in each new cyber-skirmish.

-Get practical training in software development, network security and system administration with the built-in gridIX, an adaptation of Tiny Core Linux with a set of optional missions that cover the basics of using the Linux command line.

-Participating in the game's development by showing the dev team your high "Early Access Score" in a screenshot can give your feedback priority so the next build can reflect your cyberspace wishes.

-Zip around with your Steam friends using our unique co-op lobby system, linking everyone within a cyber-city together. Our multi-player development roadmap includes sharing quests with friends and building custom systems for others to explore.
