Monthly update, October: New maps taking us into the endgame

Hi everyone! Here is the monthly update for Himeko Sutori, October 2018.

We decided to try a new development philosophy this month. Whereas before we tried to deliver small, highly polished levels each month, we are now trying to block out large sections of the game and then adding detail later. With this new approach we are trying to get the game fully playable from start to finish as fast as possible.

We think this approach was very successful, and we'd like for you to take a look for yourselves:

We last left our heroes waiting on the other side of this portal.

And now we set off on another trek through the dangerous Shadowlands.

We make our way to South Point Crossing.

And through the next gate, we find ourselves in an entirely new environment.

There will be many new adventures waiting for you out in the snow.

The spires of the Icy Reach will be the staging area for your ultimate assault against the Scholars of Candle and Sword.

The areas we've shown you here will be fully traversable in-game as soon as we upload the next patch. The towns lack shops and NPCs, and we have not yet added unique battle maps for the new zones. But the hardest and most time-consuming work is out of the way. Next month we will rough-in the final areas of the game. And then we begin adding the required detail, including new battle maps, shops, NPCs (including the NPCs and recruitable heroes named after our backers), and the dialog and cutscenes to move the story along.

Along the way we will also keep adding new equipment and crafting recipes. We have finished the first few tiers of all the weapons and armor, and we are finally starting to create the most powerful weapons to be found.

Here is a small preview of some of the more powerful equipment you'll find.

Development on Himeko Sutori is taking much more time and effort than I ever imagined, but it is moving slowly towards completion. From here, we think we can see light at the end of the tunnel. It has been a pleasure working on Himeko Sutori for you. We look forward to handing you the finished product.

That's all for now, but we will be back next month with more updates. Take care. And thank you for your ongoing support for Himeko Sutori.

Monthly update, September: new maps, new encounters, and underwear

Hi everyone! Here's what we've been up to in September.

We added lots of cool new maps and special encounters to the game. The new special encounters on the map put less strain on your processor than having a bunch of enemies on the world map, so more special encounters means more adventure with higher framerates.

With the recent changes to Steam's allowed content, developers now have to mark the content of their game very carefully. When you remove your characters' armor, they were naked, and we marked our game as containing nudity. That completely changed Himeko Sutori's list of similar games, and it was company we would rather not be in. So we decided to cover up the characters with some underwear when you take their clothes off.

Characters from saved games prior to this change may have the wrong underwear sprite. For a while we even had slimes wearing bras and panties. Those issues should be mostly fixed now.

You can read about more changes in detail over at our Kickstarter page.

We're cranking out more content as fast as we can and we hope to have a full game ready for you to play very soon. Thank you very much for your interest in Himeko Sutori. We'll share more news with you next month.

About This Game

An unprovoked attack on a minor noble house sparks a fire that will engulf kingdoms. Aya, the youngest daughter of House Furukawa, must find her way amid crumbling alliances and her family's questionable decisions. The war rages on after its original aim becomes impossible and the innocent begin to lose their way. If there is still a victory to be achieved, you the player must fight for it.

Lead House Furukawa's few remaining loyal soldiers into battle. Forge new alliances and rally new troops. Train your human troops in 20 unique character classes and fill your ranks with wolves, fairies, the undead, and your own mechanical creations, each with their own character classes. Equip them all with hundreds of different items in limitless combinations. Craft powerful new weapons to give them an edge in battle. Organize your troops into lances, relying on your captains' leadership abilities and your troops' affinities to maximize their effectiveness in battle. Order your lances in tactical turn-based combat to defeat your enemies in epic battles with hundreds of unique characters on each side.

And that is just one possible adventure to be had in Himeko Sutori. With the included campaign editor, you can make an infinite number of possible stories. Use the powerful Kismet visual scripting tool to set up your campaign without writing a single line of code. Or for the advanced modder, make entirely new games using Himeko Sutori as the base for your development. Then share your campaigns for others to experience.

Come experience Himeko Sutori.
