What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We've been working on TYRED since September 2016 and so far we've had a lot of positive feedback, along with ideas for improvements, but only from people who've played it in our area. We want to release what we have at the moment and get feedback from even more people, so we can make TYRED the best it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It's difficult to suggest a date when we'll release the full game, as there are so many features we want to add into TYRED and as long as we keep getting suggestions for improvements we'll keep updating the game to fit the players' requests. We hope we will be able to release the full version of TYRED by September 2018, but we will still update the game further from there depending on player requests.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final version of TYRED will play similarly to the Early Access builds, but it will be more polished and have many more features than what's included currently.
Ideally we want to add all of the following. We'll also take any requests into account.
  • More Tyre Customisation
  • More Vs. Game Modes
  • More Environments, Themes and Variations
  • Online multiplayer
  • Teamwork/Co-Op games
  • Singleplayer
  • Music library to play during game modes
  • Full sound effects
  • More realistic rubbery tyres with squash and stretch

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version has
  • 4 Player local multiplayer
  • A fair amount of Tyre Customisation
  • Custom names
  • 6 unique game modes
  • Several variations and themes to customise game modes

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We consider the Early Access price to be a little less than what we'll charge on full release. Consider it an Early Adopters Discount.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to involve the community as much as we can. We want to keep in close contact with players to help us prioritise key features and improvements to make TYRED as fun as it can possibly be.”

From Blog Post -

In preparation for EGX Rezzed in London we've introduced some extra mechanics into TYRED.

We came up with a list of basic powerups that would make the game even more chaotic and added them into the game over the last week.

Tom spent some time creating the artwork- meshes for the powerup symbols, Random Objects and their materials, as well as the glass material on the pickup containers

Occasionally a container (Randomised between sphere, cube and diamond) will fall from the sky onto the playing area, and shuffle between abilities a player can get when picked up. The current ability is shown by the shape inside the container.

Not all pickups are supposed to give players a certain advantage or disadvantage; while some do, we wanted to add a few that make the game even more crazy.

The first pickup turns the player into a random object from a selection of 15 meshes. Some of them are shown in the video below.

The second pickup is a weight that crushes any player it falls on. It's contagious and can be passed onto other players. Once it is collected the players have 5 seconds before it drops. This timer may increase after more testing.

The next pickup is a Black Hole. Once picked up a black hole will appear and absorb any player that gets near it.

Chains originally were a permanent skin for Spare - the standard car tyre. After a lot of testing and feedback at events we decided it may be a bit overpowered. Now only players who are lucky enough to pick up chains can experience the upper-hand on icy levels.

Because we have a powerup for icy levels, we wanted to create a complete opposite. The Slick pickup takes away a lot of the grip from the tyre who collectes it.

The Spring Pickup makes the player bounce uncontrollably for a few seconds.

The Random Speed Pickup gives the player an increase or decrease in speed. Both can be a positive or a negative in certain situations.

The Freeze pickup covers the player with ice and they're rendered helpless and slippery for five seconds. This gives other players a chance to knock them off the podium.

The Feather pickup makes the player as light as a - you guessed it. The jump height is significantly increased, while the mass of the player is decreased, and renders them unable to move other players until the pickup wears off.

The Enlarge and Shrink abilities make the player's tyre size physically bigger or smaller, and along with it heavier or lighter. These can be both a positive and negative depending on the scenario; being bigger does make you stronger but also makes you a bigger target for the wreckingball, whirlwind, black hole etc, and being smaller and weaker makes it harder for other players to bash you out of the way.

We're likely going to add more Pickups after EGX Rezzed, but priority is getting TYRED online.

About This Game

TYRED is a 2-4 player party game. Customise your Tyre and lead it to victory in a series of customisable minigames.

Player Customisation

Player Names
It's always important to give your tyre the perfect name; you can enter the name using the onscreen keyboard. Alternatively you can be provided with one through the Random Name button.

Game Modes

The aim of this game mode is to be the last tyre on the arena floor. Players must use everything in their power to knock their opponents off the edge of the podium.

Pole Hog
Players must hoop their tyre onto the pole in order to win the round. Once a tyre is ‘hogging’ the pole, other players have 30 seconds to do the same in order to share the reward.

King of the Hill
The first player to reach 100 points wins the round. Getting points is as easy as staying where marked ‘Hill’. The player with the most points wears the crown.

Tyre Pong
A new twist on a classic party game. Players must jump into cups in order to get points.
Several Variations
  • Standard - Players take it in turns to jump into their designated cups on distant tables. The first player to land in all of their cups wins the game.
  • Timed 5/10 Minutes - Standard, but with a time limit to finish the game.
  • Killer Pong - Standard, but each miss takes a life. When all players are out of lives the game finishes, and the player with the highest points wins.
  • Crazy Pong - Free-For-All where the cups are rotating in the centre of the playing area. Players get points by jumping into the cups. Points are awarded to the player with the highest points when the timer finishes.

Sidescrolling Mayhem. Players must move down a maze of elevating platforms. Hitting the ceiling will result in a puncture so nasty that your tyre will be crushed to dust.
Two Variations
  • Race - Players must get to the landing strip at the bottom of the screen. Beating other players results in more points.
  • Endless - Survive longer than every other player.

Man your post, and try to avoid getting swept away by the revolving arms.
