What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Getting user feedback early on is crucial to creating a robust, intuitive and enjoyable VR DJing experience which is accessible to both professional DJs and beginners alike.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“Vinyl Reality will be in Early Access for anywhere between 6 months to a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“A primary focus will be making the application more accessible to people who have no prior DJing experience, by adding features that will lower the learning curve, such as BPM displays. The tutorials included with the application will also be improved upon and users will be provided with extra external learning resources.

New environments will be added to the application gradually throughout the Early Access period. Some of these environments will have special features, such as sound responsive light shows and visual effects. The application is currently only compatible with the HTC Vive, but support for other VR platforms is planned.

A roadmap with all the planned features is available on Trello.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All of the DJ equipment is fully functional and users can load their own music, record mixes, or connect the application to their speakers and perform for a live audience.

The application comes with a basic tutorial that explains how to use the application, but doesn’t cover the topic of DJing itself.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will be increased gradually as more content is added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be crucial in determining which upcoming features should be prioritized and how they should be implemented. I plan to set up several communication channels through which users can provide feedback, request features or report bugs.”

Update EA v1.0.7 – Native Oculus Rift support and more

Version 1.0.7 of Vinyl Reality has left the beta phase and is now available for everyone to try out.

This update adds native support for the Oculus Rift headset and touch controllers, allowing Oculus users to run the application without SteamVR, resulting in better performance and an overall smoother experience.
Another small bonus feature for Oculus users is that they now have a more lifelike 3rd person avatar, which is visible from the spectator cameras in the Recording Studio environment.

To launch the Oculus VR Mode, simple right click the application in your Steam library, and select the Launch Vinyl Reality in Oculus VR Mode option.

For this update, I’ve also completely redesigned the main menu, to make it more user-friendly and visually appealing.

Last but not least, all audio and application settings can now be accessed from inside VR, removing the need to take off your headset when configuring your settings.
When running the application in Steam VR Mode, you can open the settings panel by pressing the menu button on the HTC Vive or Windows MR controllers, or by pressing the B or Y buttons on the Oculus touch controllers.
When running the application in Oculus VR Mode, the settings panel can be opened by pressing the start button on the left touch controller.

Full Release Notes:
  • General: Added native Oculus support
  • General: Redesigned Main Menu UI and environment
  • General: Redesigned loading screen
  • User Settings: Made setting panels accessible in VR
  • User Settings: Added dropdown selection for default audio device

About This Software

Developed in Berlin, the European capital of electronic music, in close cooperation with professional DJs, Vinyl Reality aims to provide the most intuitive, accurate and realistic simulation of DJing with vinyl inside virtual reality.

Every knob, button and fader, on both the turntables and mixer, has been carefully replicated to look, feel and behave like their real-world counterparts. For users new to DJing, this means the skills they learn can also be applied outside of virtual reality. For more experienced DJs it ensures the application is both straightforward and intuitive.
