What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We strongly believe that it takes a community to raise dragons together.

The world of Beast Pets is a living, evolving place where our dragons live and play. We’re still in the early days of figuring out what it means to have pet dragons become part of our daily lives, which is why we’re releasing Beast Pets in Early Access.

Today, the baby dragons are about the size of house cats and enjoy chasing after their favorite toys or other dragon playmates. Our vision, however, is to create a world where beasts and their humans can learn and grow together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“For the next year or so.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We envision the “full version” as a world where dragons and their humans can:
  • Play together with other people and beasts
  • Have personalized spaces
  • Train for specific activities (such as prepping special meals, learning different types of fire-breathing, etc.)

Even after we launch a “full version,” we plan to keep evolving the world of Beast Pets.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Because dragons need a lot of stimuli, we’re constantly adding new activities, toys, and areas to explore.

The app currently features these areas:
  • Beast Park: a perpetually sunny park where the dragons can zoom about, chase each other, play fetch, etc.
  • Winter Park: an ethereal glowing ice cave where dragons can unleash some destructive energy.
  • Dragon Den: a cozy tree hollow where tired little dragon can get some zzz’s.

The app currently features a few different modes:
  • Treasure Hunt: look for different treasure chests, each containing a different gem that bestows a unique power.
  • Mystery: discover a different assortment of toys and activities each time.
  • Free Play: all treasures are uncovered so you can get to playing with dragons asap!
  • Simple (coming soon): if all you want to do is play with dragons with minimal distractions, this is the mode for you.

Dragons get bored easily so we have to keep adding new stuff to keep them entertained. New activities and discoverables are coming soon to the existing regions, so keep an eye out!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“It’s our first time raising dragons too, so we don’t know yet if they’ll ever become housebroken or if they’ll just break your house. This will be a community effort, and that’s why we’re launching in Early Access first so we can figure it out together!

Patch Notes for v0.54.0

Pop complete!

More distinct personalities and modes! We’ve noticed some behavior changes in the dragons. It seems one of them has developed a bit of a temper which has shaken up the group social dynamics. They also seem to be more moody but maybe that’s just us. As part of the process of adding new Play Modes, we’ve made existing modes more distinct with clearer goals and objective tracking. We’ll be taking advantage of the mode changes by adding a new mode next update so look forward to that!

Dragons
  • The dragons now each have distinct moods that can vary each time they appear.
  • One of the dragons has developed a bit of a temper, so try not to make it mad.
  • The social dynamic between the dragons seems to have shifted recently.
  • Dragons won’t teleport quite as close to you anymore.

Beast Park
  • Shifted the reset button for the block tower to the right.

Dragon Den
  • Fixed bug where got stuck outside with treasure chests.

Treasure Hunt
  • No longer includes hidden markers.
  • Objects that appear during the Telekinesis stage for practice disappear at the end of the stage.
  • Moved the location of the treasure chest with the ball closer to the center of the room.
  • Ends when the last treasure chest is found, followed by optional quick start options with Mystery mode.

Mystery
  • Now shows the goal of finding all the markers at the start.
  • Shows progress after each marker.
  • Shows relevant info for whatever is revealed if it is available. This will be expanded and refined in future updates.
  • Ends when the marker is found, followed by optional quick start options with Free Play mode.

Free Play
  • Now shows the goal of doing whatever you want at the start.

Magical Tablet (Tabby)
  • Improved button pressing reliability by a lot.
  • Added more quick start options after completing a play mode.
  • Added a play mode icon in the bottom left of quick start options.
  • Added little dragons to all location buttons so they’re not as empty.
  • Added an under construction image for when an option has not been released yet.
  • Appears off to the left of what the player is looking at instead of in front of the thing you’re looking at.
  • Added ability to pop up in front of you when you move out of range instead of flying across the room and bumping into things.
  • Increased dragon collision resistance.

General
  • Fixed teleport position for markers so things like treasure chests stay in the play area.
  • Preliminary support for Valve Index “Knuckles” controllers.
  • Improved analytics and event tracking.
  • More bug fixes and some performance improvements.
