What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“So you’re interested in Survived By huh? Well this is where we make sure you know that we are going into Early Access because we, as developers feel that the game is fun and in a great place for players to jump in and play, but we’re still actively working on the game alongside the community.

Let’s be honest… that means we’re going to make some mistakes along the way. While we always try to give the the players the best experience with every update, it could be bumpy. It also means that no system is safe. If it's in the best interest of the game that big features get rebuilt or cut, that's what we'll do.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are lucky enough to be in a place where this question can be answered with, "When it's done." Or, more appropriately, once we've locked in on what we all want this game to be and we believe it’s in an awesome state. Survived By will always be a living breathing online game, even once we leave Early Access, but once we do leave Early Access Survived By should be focused on moving forward rather than some of the lateral moves we expect to happen during Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While many features will be shaped by an active discussion with the community, there are a number of features we do have planned to develop.

  • Expanded character progression that really makes you feel like death is just the beginning
  • New varieties of enemy attacks and behavior
  • A pet system that will give players a wider variety of active abilities
  • Expansion of the in-game challenge system to give players more directed objectives
  • A wide variety of events to keep the game fresh and interesting
  • Additional end game content, with at least three additional raid dungeons in development
  • Far more options to customize your character from new Ancestral Legacies to additional gear enhancements.
  • New character classes

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

  • 6 Classes
  • 150+ Pieces of equippable gear
  • 200+ Ancestral Legacies
  • 15+ Dungeons of varying sizes and difficulty
  • 250+ Enemies

The end game is still a work in progress, but a lot of the early and mid game is in place. The game is stable, but it could be more stable. The game has loot, but it could have more loot. The game has events, but it could have more events. The game is fun, but it could be more fun. In short, it's good, but it can always get better and we need YOU (not that other guy) to help us.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Survived By is a free-to-play game and that will not change when we leave Early Access. The in-app purchases are also expected to remain unchanged between Early Access and the full version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The primary way in which the dev team will interface with the community is through the Survived By forums. We'll have a presence on other channels like Discord and Reddit, but the forums will be the main hub for communication. Discussions, suggestions and critiques will all be welcome and will be have a direct impact on feature priority and development.

Will my account / progression be wiped before Release?
Although we have no plans to perform additional wipe, please remember this is Early Access and if we believe one is needed for the betterment of the game before official release, there could be additional wipes.”

Offerings, Dangerous Chests, and Drop Rates - Oh My!

Hello Ancestors, this week’s update features a few bigger changes in relation to materials, item recovery, dangerous chests, and more! We’ve listened to your feedback and are trying to work towards the following goals.

  • Create a more fair path to item recovery
  • Increase the value of high level crafting materials
  • Increase more smoothly the rarity of materials earned over time
  • Make dangerous chests more rewarding
  • To that end, we’ve introduced a few changes.

Item Recovery Changes

Prior to this update, Ancestors could only pass one item for kin for free. We recognized there were concerns about how item recovery worked and hoped to address them. Now we’ve added a special item that you can use to recover your items upon death. Meet Offerings - a consumable that you can offer in exchange for a single piece of gear at death.

Offerings are obtained by:

  • Purchasing them from the Returner in the Tower for Electrum (35 each)
  • Crafting them from Blue Jade and Waystone fragments

Before you can craft an Offering, you’ll need:

  • Blue Jade, dropped by bosses, Dangerous Chests, and bounty targets
  • Waystone Fragments, a potential reward from Rank II and III Challenges and a guaranteed reward from Rank IV Challenges.

Additional Offering notes

  • Offerings and Waystone Fragments are bound to the character that earns them, but Blue Jade can be exchanged with other players
  • You’ll need to have your Offerings before dying in order to pass them down your lineage

Materials Restructure

In order to make high-level crafting materials more valuable we’ve adjusted the drop rates for T9 and T10 enemies so that they provide rewards more often, but at a lower tier.

Changes to Drop rates for T9 normal enemies

  • Before: Dropped T5 materials
  • Now: Drops T1 materials and T3 materials

Changes to Drop rates for T10 normal enemies

  • Before: Dropped T5 materials
  • Now: Drops T3 materials and T5 materials

Enemies below T9 will have the same drop rate and materials that existed prior to this update.

Revamped Dangerous Chests

In addition to making high level materials easier to find in T9 & T10 we’ve also revamped the dangerous chests to have better material drops and in some instances better quantities.

Changes to Dangerous Chests

  • T2: Increased amount of materials dropped
  • T3: Upgraded drops from T0 to T1
  • T4: Upgraded drops from T0 to T1, increased quantity
  • T5: Upgraded drops from T0 to T3
  • T6: Upgraded drops from T0 to T3, increased quantity
  • T7: Downgraded drops from T5 to T3, increased quantity and drop rates
  • T8: Downgraded drops from T5 to T3, increased quantity and drop rates
  • T9: Increased drop rates, removed T8 drops, reduced pool of material to 2 per dungeon, added chance for L5 and L6 charms (pool per dungeon limited to no more than 3 charms)
  • T10: Increased drop rates, removed T8 drops, increased quantity, added chance for L5 and L6 charms (all)

To balance these new rewards for chests we’ve also taken a look at the types of enemy encounters that you face to make them more challenging and thus more rewarding for seeking them out.

Changes to Dangerous Chest encounters

  • Spawning Nest (T2 and T9), reduced size of burrowers, increased burrower speed, reduced burrower count, added defenders, increased defender size and Health, increased defender projectile count
  • Other encounters are currently being worked on and we will share details once the time comes!

Let us know if you have any questions!

Survived By Week 7 + 8

To be released at 11am CT on 1/16/19:
Update: This build has been delayed, we'll update with an ETA as soon as possible!

Update: the build will go live at 11AM CT on 1/17/19.

Known issues:

  • The first time you enter the store on the main menu, you won't be able to purchase anything. The in-game store still works, and the main menu store will work if it's returned to. This will be hotfixed.
  • If you already completed all Rank IV challenges, you won't be able to earn Fragments - if this happened to you, reach out to us at and we will reward your account with Fragments.
  • There are two keys in the shop for unreleased raid dungeons - please don't purchase these, as there is no entrance and they won't work! These will be removed in a hotfix.

  • Recovering items on death now requires Offerings, which can be crafted or purchased with electrum
  • Material drops now improve more gradually when moving into more difficult content (applies to both normal drops and dangerous chest drops)
  • In general, high level drop rates for materials have been increased, while in some cases the level of the material dropped has been decreased
  • High level charms are now part of the T9 and T10 dangerous chest loot tables
  • Dangerous chest loot tables for T9 have been reduced in size to create specific locations where an item is likely to be found (for instance, if you want a Critical Damage charm you should be going to Spawning Nest of Monastery of the Rift)
  • Sell prices for all materials have been updated (raw materials still cannot be sold to vendors)
  • Spawning Nest dangerous chest encounter has been overhauled
  • Pressing Enter from the log in screen should attempt to log in
  • Added an audio queue for being at low and very low health
  • A number of additional items added to the Store
  • Added a tutorial cinematic skip button
  • Relics can now stack up to 10 in player inventory
  • Rare crafting materials and hard mode keys are no longer account bound
  • The bandwidth requirements for playing the game have been significantly reduced
  • Fixed a bug where Valr sent through the mail system was not being awarded properly
  • Fixed a bug where Energetic Response was activating too often
  • Fixed a bug where Goliath could be pulled out of the boss room
  • Fixed a bug where ScrollUp and ScrollDown were valid keybind targets
  • Fixed a bug where one of the aura stones was not reducing travel cost properly
  • Fixed a bug where chat would not work properly if a user's house name had a space in it

  • Most recent deceased character will now always appear in lineage
  • Fixed a bug where emojis were too low in the chat window
  • Fixed a bug where the header on patch notes and coming soon were not correct
  • Fixed a bug where it appeared an aura stone could be sold for Bloodstone
  • Fixed a bug where the gravestone display was not always refreshing properly
  • Fixed a variety of spelling and grammar errors
