Why Early Access?

“As a lone developer this product is dependent on user feedback from the community. In other words, to make a cool exciting experience, I need you to be able to steer it in the right direction! This can't be done without the help of the community.

User feedback on the game can vary from:
  • Mechanics

Furthermore i’d like to utilize the testing capabilities of the Vive community for:
  • Bug testing
  • Access to different hardware set-ups

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The duration is dependent on how fast the main phases are completed. These phases are:
  • Implementing game mechanics
  • Writing story line
  • Implementing storyline using Game Mechanics

Currently we are in phase "implementing game mechanics". This means that during this phase you will see more gameplay elements come in to place. As mentioned we'll use the typical wave base shooter setup for this. Main reason for this is that we can have fun testing out new functionality like new guns and new movement options while not having to add any narrative context yet.

I intend to become more accurate on the aspect planning during the first phase as I now have to little information on my burn rate. At all times I would like to avoid making promises that cannot be achieved. Therefore I’ll be active on the forums to keep giving feedback on this matter.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will have a narrative driven goal and will span multiple levels. Currently I am aiming to have a story line that would take on average at least 5 hours to complete.

As an added bonus I intend to keep the wave shooter mode as a separate mode.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At it’s current state the main game mechanics are in a first phase state. In other words they are usable but not perfect. Currently the following things are available:
  • Multiple wavehooter levels
  • Mummy enemies, Zombie Nazi's and Living Nazi's that shoot you in the face!
  • Lots of weapons ranging from machine guns to flame arrow's
  • Adjustable settings
  • Teleport movement and Touchpad movement
  • Leaderboards

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I've set a low starting price which reflects the current state of Phase 1. The price will go up with completion of phases. These phases are:
  • Creating game mechanics, 10 to 12 euro's depending on amount of maps etc
  • Creating a story line, I won't increase during this phase
  • Implementing story line using game mechanics, 10 to 15 euros depending on how large the game has become.

For the end price I aim to stay somewhere below 32 euros or the equivalent in other currency.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Obviously I would like to get feedback on the entire game in terms of game mechanics as well as technical feedback. Furthermore i’d like to actively stay in touch with the community to see if new ideas arise that fit the game well. Several of these have already been implemented, like the fire-arrows!

I've seen some wonderful feedback come back in other early access games that have been successful on steam. I hope that by involving the community we can make something cool and exiting!”

Under a desert sun A0.7 - Flight!

See that!? Thats me flying a really awefull airplane model through one of the maps..but it's flying, controlled by a vivewand. And the basics work!

This is still far from being demo/playable. But one of the bigger things I'd like to add for alpha 0.7 is flight and flight combat. You didn't think I started out with an airbase map for nothing did you?

Hope everyone likes the slow but sure progress. I'll post again soon when i've got a more clean flight setup ready.

Under a Desert Sun A0.63 - menu update!

I've made changes so that left handed people have an easier time to play. You can now set with which controller you would like to move. This applies for teleport movement as well as trackpad movement.

Furthermore you can set on which side of your body you prefer to have ammo. Both are needed to be able to play well with either main hand.

I also added some highlighting on the bolts of weapons that need to be bolted before you can shoot. This way you get an indication when your hand is close enough to grab on.

Lastly I removed the experimental grabbing options.

The North African Campaign of the Second World War took place during the period from 10 June 1940 to 13 May 1943. Of Course.. on the 9th of June 1940, Jack didn’t know that yet..

Under a Desert Sun is a VR experience that is currently in an early access phase. Once completed this will be a story-rich adventure set in a 1940 desert atmosphere. Current state is a wave based shooter proving functionality for the singleplayer!
