Why Early Access?

“Rubicon Approach is a competitive first-person shooter. Early access is a great tool to receive not only user feedback on balance and map direction, but also to fully test the multiplayer system prior to launching the game. Virtual Reality is a challenging medium where users able to give feedback may be hard to reach locally, especially for a multiplayer game. Early access allows us to get a broad range of feedback from the variety of VR setups that exist. We feel that the early access tagline is our own commitment to not calling the game finished until we’ve polished the game balance and removed as many bugs as is realistically possible for mere mortals.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Most of the core gameplay is complete. The duration of early access will extend as long as it takes to get user feedback on maps, balance, and test multiplayer functionally. The goal is 3-4 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will have a continually expanded map list along with several playlists for solo and team based play. A party system to easily join matches with your friends. Cross-play with Oculus Rift and other VR headsets. User base is a challenge in competitive games in the VR space currently, so finding a way to keep the content exciting for those who come back is critical to a final version of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the game is a very functional multiplayer FPS system. We’ve buffed out as many game breaking bugs as we can find, and our main gameplay is entirely implemented and includes:
  • 3 Hand-crafted maps
  • 5 Unique weapons
  • 1 Game type
  • Stats and Leveling System.
  • Online Multiplayer with built in voice chat and matchmaking.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be a price increase upon leaving early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community involvement is key for success in VR multiplayer games. Along with the steam discussion boards there will be an open discord channel where features and maps will be discussed with the community.”
