About This Game

You decide, your crews do the work

Rainfed is a farm management sim. Every paddock has its own soil, water, weeds and history. Choose what to sow, how much seed and fertilizer to use, when to spray and when to harvest. Then choose who does each job: your own drivers on your own machines, a contractor, or a casual hired for the busy weeks.

Order the work and watch it happen. Seeders, sprayers, headers, chaser bins and trucks move across the farm in a detailed pixel world. When the work cannot wait, keep the machines going through the night, with drivers changing over at the end of each shift.

Watch the farm at work

Headers unload into chaser bins on the move, trucks cart grain to the buyers, flocks graze among the trees, and the town's lights come on at dusk. Frost whitens the morning, rain sets in and cloud shadows cross the paddocks.

Every day counts at sowing and harvest

Sow late and the crop has less time to fill its grain before heat and dry weather arrive. Delaying harvest leaves the crop exposed to rain that can lower its grade. Frost at flowering and dry spells during grain filling can cut the yield. Work out whether a bigger seeder, a second header or a contractor would save enough grain to cover the cost.

Sell now or store for later

Grain quality affects what buyers pay. Loads are graded on measures including protein, screenings, moisture and falling number. Dry wet grain and keep different grades in separate silos.

Choose a buyer and send a truck to deliver the grain. Store it in aerated silos while you wait for a better price, or agree a price through a forward contract before harvest.

Manage costs and debt

Wages, diesel, seed, fertilizer, repairs and loan repayments all have to be covered. Money comes in when grain and stock are sold. An overdraft and seasonal loans can cover the gap until harvest, but buying more land or machinery adds to what you owe.

Fall behind on repayments and the bank sends warnings, followed by a final notice and the loss of the farm. Easy, Normal, Hard and Custom settings let you choose your starting finances and how much help you receive when money runs short.

Buy land, machinery and buildings

Start on a working farm, or buy bare land and build from nothing. Buy machines new or used, trade in old equipment, and buy or lease more land. Fence new paddocks, lay farm tracks, and place sheds, silos and stock yards where you need them.

Grow wheat, barley, oats, canola, lupins and more. Process your crops as well as selling them: press canola for oil and meal, or mill grain into livestock feed.

Sheep and cattle beside the crops

Run sheep and beef cattle on pasture and stubble, and breed your own lambs and calves. Make hay and silage, and use stored feed to carry the stock through when pasture runs short.

Give orders or set standing plans

Plan each job yourself, or set standing plans for fertilizer, weeds, grazing, hay, silage and servicing. Your crews carry out the work. Watch a day at real speed, or advance time until something needs your attention.

When the work allows, take a day off: go fishing at the dam, catch crayfish or pan for gold.

A new district every game

Each new game generates a district of paddocks, creeks, bush, roads, neighbors and a country town. Choose an inland or coastal setting, then adjust the climate and landscape, including rainfall, frost, soils and hills. Preview how the crops would perform before you start.

Learn from every year

The year in review shows which paddocks earned money and what held the others back: dry spells, frost, weeds, nitrogen shortages or a late start. Map layers show soil water, weeds and crop growth. Compare each paddock's results across seasons, and save views of the farm to look back on what has changed.
