Your first command starts in the ranks

You are Rowan Vale, a new recruit in King Aldren’s army. His campaign to conquer the neighboring kingdoms begins with soldiers like you: taking orders, fighting for a crossing, and learning who you can rely on when the line breaks.

From the Ranks is a single-player medieval tactical RPG that combines direct control of one soldier with companions who act for themselves. Fight through a connected campaign, build an experienced company, and earn the responsibility of command.

Fight as one soldier in a larger battle

Choose Rowan’s movement, attacks and defensive actions in turn-based combat. Your comrades take their own turns according to their standing strategy. Position yourself to support them, hold a choke point, or deal with an enemy threatening the formation.

Choose the company you take into battle

Build your team with illustrated character cards showing weapons, skills and combat stats. Decide who belongs on the field before the fighting starts. Once you earn command, use limited orders to influence nearby comrades; reaching units farther away takes time.

Earn your place

Start by following your officers’ orders. Fight for bridges, towns and mountain passes as the campaign advances, then take on new duties with each promotion. Illustrated character scenes and regional and continent maps follow the company’s progress through the war.

Bring your soldiers home

Rowan and his companions gain experience and improve their stats. Battle reports show their progress, wounds and losses. Regular recruits can die permanently, making an experienced soldier someone worth protecting.
