What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Echoes of Eras is a large project: a creature RPG that travels through ten eras of history. The first chapter, the Stone Age, is complete and playable from start to end. Early Access lets players join the journey now, and lets us shape the next eras with their feedback on battles, balance, the creatures and the story before the full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ We expect Early Access to last around [two years], as we add the eras one by one. This is an estimate and may change depending on player feedback and on what each era needs.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add the remaining eras as new chapters, each with its own world, villages, guardian and Echoes: Ancient Greece, the age of dinosaurs, Rome, the Middle Ages, feudal Japan, the Age of Discovery, the Industrial Age, the Modern Age and the future. We also plan to keep improving the creature art, balance, music and accessibility, and to continue the story of the traveller and Saël across time.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The first chapter, the Stone Age, is fully playable: an open world with seven villages, caves, side quests, turn-based battles with eleven types, Echoes that can join your team, evolutions, a rival, two guardians and a final encounter with Primordion. It takes about [X hours] to finish. The game is available in English and French, with keyboard or gamepad support. Bugs and balance issues may remain.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price as new eras and content are added. Players who buy the game during Early Access will receive every future update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read the Steam forums and reviews and answer questions there. The game has a button that opens its save and log folder, so players can easily attach their files to a bug report. Feedback from the community will guide the balance, the next eras and which features come first. We will post regular updates on the Steam page about what has changed and what is coming next.”

About This Game

You don't catch Echoes. They choose to join you.

In a city of the future, two apprentices watch over the Clock that governs the passage of time. Pull the lever even a little too soon, and time will be shattered, and you’ll find yourself deep in the past.

You wake up in a Stone Age camp, with no memory of how you got there. The Elder entrusts you with your first Echo, a small creature that only lives in this age. And there's Saël, another traveller dropped out of time like you, who is already itching to challenge you. All that's left is to mend what was broken, era by era, and find your way back to the future.

  • Explore open worlds: living villages and towns, caves and their guardians, lakes, deserts and mountains — and everywhere, wild Echoes roaming the land or tracing their path across the sky.

  • Fight turn-based battles alongside your team. Eleven types of Echoes — from Fire and Ice to Storm, Shadow or the very rare Chrono — each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and its own way of turning a fight around.

  • Earn their trust: after a victory, a wild Echo may decide to follow you. Those who don't find a place on your team will wait patiently in the Echo Stone.

  • Grow together: level up, learn new moves, and watch them evolve. Sometimes nature even offers a rare, shimmering form — keep your eyes open.

  • Ride them: once an era's story is over, its Echoes carry you, and transports of the age link its towns.

  • Push the doors open: huts, temples, villas, baths… every place has its people, and every person their secrets.

Your team, levels and bag follow you from one age to the next — and you can return to the eras you've visited whenever you like. But between us, the journey never quite goes as planned…

Early Access (2027) already includes at least four eras, each with its own story, map, music and 37 Echoes: the Stone Age, Ancient Greece, the age of dinosaurs, Gallo-Roman Gaul… and the ones that will have joined them by then. Dozens more will follow through updates, all the way back to the future.

The demo contains the whole first chapter, the Stone Age. Playable in English and French, with keyboard or gamepad. See you there.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Each creature (Echo) is inspired by real animals, objects and myths of its era, following real evolution: the Greek lion is a descendant of the prehistoric sabre-tooth, the Gaulish bull of the aurochs. Some creature and character sprites and animations started from AI pixel-art generators (PixelLab, SpriteCook). Others were drawn procedurally with code or adapted from CC0 resources. All were hand-edited and refined by the developer.

Buildings and environments are based on real-world historical architecture and on permissively licensed open-source assets (CC0, CC-BY and other non-copyleft licenses), adapted, recreated and hand-edited into pixel art. No AI tools were used to generate the architectural artwork.

The soundtrack is built upon open-source and Creative Commons compositions sourced from OpenGameArt, transformed, given new timbres and procedurally processed with custom Python scripts and algorithmic audio tools to fit each historical era.
The storyline, dialogues, creature descriptions and English translation were drafted with the assistance of AI writing tools, then directed, manually reviewed and rewritten by the developer.
No AI content is generated while the game runs.

Name of AI model included with the game: PixelLab and SpriteCook (pixel-art sprites and animations); Claude by Anthropic (writing assistance and English translation)
