What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Sundered Reach is a big game made by a solo developer, and the core is playable today: the Ilith Academy, the campaign map, real-time fleet battles and sieges with up to 1,500 soldiers per side. Early Access lets players help shape what comes next, from balance and AI to new factions and modding, while the game keeps growing with every update.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to release the full version (1.0) about 12 months after the Early Access launch.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to add more playable factions, multiplayer, full mod support, controller support and more languages, along with more battle maps, ships, troops and story content around the Vesk. Performance, balance and AI will keep improving based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version includes the story start at the Ilith Academy on foot, the open campaign map with settlements, trade, contracts and 104 map events, diplomacy and 36 characters, real-time fleet battles with boarding, and ground battles and sieges with up to 1,500 soldiers per side on six maps. The human factions are playable. The game is single-player and in English. Expect bugs and systems that are still being finished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The Early Access price is lower than the planned price of the full version, and we plan to raise the price when Sundered Reach leaves Early Access. Everyone who buys during Early Access keeps the game and gets every update, including the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback from players decides a lot of what we build next. Join the community on Discord and in the Steam discussions to report bugs, suggest features and vote on priorities. We post regular dev diaries about what changed and what comes next.”

About This Game

Sundered Reach is a space strategy RPG inspired by the sandbox campaign of Mount & Blade, the battles of Total War, the space and ground war of Star Wars: Empire at War and the relationships of Mass Effect.

Start as a cadet. Earn your ship. Build a warband and decide which of the great powers you fight for, or against.

Every war in the Reach is fought twice: by fleets in orbit and by armies on the ground. Win the battle above a world, send down your troops and take it wall by wall.

  • Your story starts on foot at the Ilith Academy.
  • Train at the shooting range, race in the Ilith Cup and go on missions with your squad.
  • Voiced story scenes with your mentors.
  • Graduate, and take command of your own ship.

  • One star system and a hundred worlds: mining planets, research stations, ice moons and the wreckage of shattered planets.
  • Planets move on real orbits. Recruit troops in every settlement, trade and take contracts.
  • 104 map events, pirates, raids and wars between 11 factions.
  • Three great powers: the industrial Karthan Combine, the scientific Aurelian Concord and the alien Threnn Shoal.

  • Encounters become fleet battles in real time.
  • 13 ship classes, from fighters to dreadnoughts, with shields, beams, missiles and point defence.
  • Command the whole fleet or take the helm yourself.
  • Board their flagship with boarding pods.

  • Battles and sieges with up to 1,500 soldiers per side and 30 troop types.
  • Shield wall, testudo and phalanx. When the lines meet, every soldier finds his own opponent.
  • Shield domes, trenches, ladders and gates. Walls break, and the artillery needs its crew.

  • Human war machines: the Foreman mech, the Anvil tank, the Jackal buggy and the Derrick walker.
  • The Threnn bring living ones: the Kharrak, the Ossuun, the Shael and the giant Thuulmar.
  • Fight on forest worlds, ice, steppe and the red sands of Mars.

  • 36 lords, notables and companions who remember what you did.
  • Contracts, favours, intrigue and diplomacy.
  • Calls from your bridge. Key scenes are voiced.

Freighters stop coming home. Stations fall silent. People blame pirates, or the Threnn.

Over the course of the campaign the Vesk rise from the edge of the system, and the war for the Reach becomes a fight for survival.

Sundered Reach launches in Early Access. At launch you play the human factions, and more factions will follow as DLC.

The game is built for modding: factions, troops, events, items, vehicles, characters and dialogue are already plain data files, and full mod support is a core goal. Multiplayer, controller support and more languages are planned during Early Access.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some images and the character voices in Sundered Reach were created with the help of generative AI. They will be replaced with human-made art and voice acting after Early Access.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Sundered Reach is a war game. Soldiers and aliens are shot, stabbed and blown up in large ground battles, sieges and space battles, with blood effects. The story deals with war, loss and an alien threat. Some characters mention or drink alcohol, and combat stims are used as items.
