What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core three-act adventure is playable. We want to use player feedback to improve dice-building choices, combat balance, and the overall experience while we expand the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last about two months. This is an estimate and may change based on development progress and player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add playable heroes, more dice, and more enemies, alongside balance changes and improvements to the overall experience. The details and scope may evolve during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version offers a single-player adventure as Sun Wukong across three acts: Black Wind Mountain, White Bone Ridge, and the Flaming Mountains. It includes 31 permanent die types, 18 relics, a pool of 8 mystical powers, and 22 enemy types, plus branching routes, die-face forging, practice battles, a compendium, run reviews, and local autosaves. Balance and polish are still being refined. The current interface is in Simplified Chinese.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to change the price during Early Access or when the full version is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to collect bug reports, balance feedback, and suggestions through the Steam community discussions and our support email. Player feedback will help us prioritize fixes and improvements.”

About This Game

The dice fall. You choose the move.

Journey to the West: Dice & Destiny is a single-player, turn-based roguelike built around a bag of six-sided dice. Play as Sun Wukong and set out with eight dice through Black Wind Mountain, White Bone Ridge, and the Flaming Mountains. Gather relics, learn mystical powers, and reshape your dice as you carve a path through three acts of Chinese fantasy.

One roll. Many possibilities.

Each die has its own six faces. Attack, defend, charge up, copy another face, or summon monkey companions. Powerful options can share a die with harmful faces that inflict backlash or add temporary cursed dice to the battle.

Read the enemies' revealed intentions before you act. Lock useful faces, decide when to reroll, and plan the order of your moves. Matching attack values unleash the Golden Staff; matching defensive values form Iron Body; a straight becomes an immobilizing spell. Immediate effects and mystical powers draw from the same handful of dice.

Build the bag. Shape every face.

Find new dice in rewards, at roadside merchants, and at shrines along the map. At the Eight Trigrams Furnace, alter a chosen die face: adjust its value, copy another face on that die, switch between attack and defense, or cleanse a harmful face.

Learn new powers after the first two act bosses and improve the ones you know at temples. Return spent dice with clones, amplify later attacks with Fiery Eyes, or fight alongside monkey companions. Combine these powers with relics that change how rerolls, defense, and attacks support your build.

Build momentum. Break through.

Every attack builds Rage, opening opportunities for a targeted reroll, extra defense, and an additional die. Fill the meter to prepare a strike that doubles your next attack's damage. Choose the moment to turn a promising roll into a decisive blow.

Choose your road west.

Branching routes lead to battles, elite foes, merchants, temples, and encounters. Press onward with the health you have, or seek recovery and a chance to refine your dice. Your bag, relics, and learned powers stay with you across the three acts. When a journey ends, start again with a different route and new combinations.

  • Build around Sun Wukong with 31 permanent die types, 18 relics, and a pool of 8 mystical powers.
  • Face 22 enemy types, each with a dedicated six-sided die and distinctive traits, across three regions.
  • Explore a Chinese fantasy world with bold ink lines, blue-violet scenery, animated characters, and three-dimensional dice.
  • Practice separately from your run, browse an in-game compendium, and review completed journeys.
  • Continue from automatic adventure saves, with battles restored to their entry checkpoint. Adjust text size and animation speed, or reduce screen shake.
