What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game already combines base building, squad commands and direct combat. We want players to help shape the campaign while its missions and progression are still developing. Early Access feedback can help us improve defensive choices, combat readability and the balance between production and fighting.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last approximately 6–12 months from its Early Access launch. This is an estimate and may change with development progress and player feedback. We plan to explain any changes through Steam announcements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the campaign beyond the opening village and wetland maps, developing the mountain workshops, liaison routes and railway defense storylines described on this page. We also aim to refine unit and building choices, enemy encounters, tutorials and performance. These are development plans; their scope and priorities may change, and specific additions are not guaranteed.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current playable build includes the opening story and two single-player defense maps: a village and a wetland settlement. You can organize production, build and upgrade facilities, recruit and command troops, and fight directly with the commander. Saving and resuming progress are supported. The later campaign maps described on this page remain in development. Balance, guidance, AI and performance still need work; this is an unfinished game, and updates may require starting a new save.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to change the base price during Early Access or when the full version launches. The full version is planned to have the same base price as the Early Access version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can post bug reports, suggestions and defense layouts in the game's Steam Community discussions. We plan to use this feedback to prioritize changes to difficulty, enemy waves, unit balance, building choices, controls and performance. For example, reports of unclear routes or overwhelming attacks can help us identify encounters and explanations to revise. We plan to share progress and patch notes through Steam announcements. We cannot implement every suggestion, but feedback will help guide our priorities.”

About This Game

Autumn 1938. Northern China.

War reaches a village. The people who remain, the tools they can salvage and the weapons they can repair become the foundations of resistance.

The Resistance: Behind Enemy Lines is a single-player game combining base building, real-time strategy and top-down combat. Lead a guerrilla unit, rebuild strongholds with local soldiers and civilians, organize production and take your place on the firing line.

From a village to a wider resistance

The campaign follows a supply and liaison network from 1938 to 1940, linking scattered workshops, ferry crossings and mountain outposts.

  • Qingxi — Rebuilding Home: Rebuild a village struck by war. Establish production, recruit defenders and fortify the creek crossing and stone bridge.
  • Weiwan Crossing — A Relay Through the Wetlands: Defend a supply relay in central Hebei, where reed beds, waterways, levees and ferry crossings divide your attention.
  • Tieluyu — Machines into the Mountains: Head into the Taihang Mountains to protect relocated machinery and workshops among narrow valleys and terraced slopes.
  • Shuanghe Station — Across the Blockade: Keep a liaison post operating amid roads, bridges and enemy strongpoints, so people and supplies can keep moving.
  • The Zheng-Tai Railway and Mountain Blocking Positions: As the story reaches summer 1940, defend the flanks and support wider operations in fictional missions set against the Hundred Regiments Offensive.

Build a base that sustains the fight

Divide limited resources between production, recruitment, equipment upgrades and defensive positions. Invest in future supplies or strengthen an exposed approach before the next attack. Walk up to construction sites to build and upgrade facilities, shaping the village through your decisions.

Command your troops. Fight beside them.

Rally fighters, assign positions and move reserves between threatened approaches. Aim and fire yourself to support a hard-pressed position or intercept troops breaking through toward your production buildings.

Different ground, different defenses

Narrow village entrances, long levees, mountain paths and open railway approaches call for different deployments. Combine troop roles, fortifications and upgrade choices, then repair losses and rethink your plan between battles.

Every workshop, crossing and liaison post you hold helps the resistance continue.

Based on the historical setting of China's resistance to Japanese invasion. Principal characters, villages and individual missions are fictional.
