Fermín's crew went down the mine, and at noon the cage came up empty. Your turn: that's what the new guy is for. A horde-survival roguelite with a story and an ending: ten floors of creatures from Asturian legend, a boss on every one, and the Diañu laughing at you all the way down.

About This Game

Fermín's crew went down to work a new seam, and at noon the cage came up empty.

Now it's your turn. Down you go with your pick on your shoulder, your lamp lit and your pet at your heels, and the first thing you notice is that the mine is far too quiet. The Pozu Santa Bárbara is ten floors deep, and the further down you go, the less it looks like a mine. Below the fourth floor, the mine no longer belongs to the miners.

A horde roguelite, Asturian style

It's a roguelite in the vein of Vampire Survivors. But here you're not holding out in an open field: you're going down. Every floor has its own boss, the mine has a story with an ending, and you never go down alone. Your weapons are the pick, the dynamite, the bagpipes or the lamp, and they attack for you while you move and dodge. Every time you level up you choose how they get stronger, and when things turn ugly, you knock back a culín, a short pour of cider. Pair a weapon with its passive and it evolves, and if you max out the pick, Saint Barbara, patron saint of miners, comes down to lend you a hand. No two runs go the same way, and most of them end sooner than you'd like.

Ten floors of northern folklore

Up top, mine rats and esperteyos, the bats of the pit. Further down, the trasgus, household goblins, warming themselves by the fire; the trentis dressed in leaves; the xana, the nymph who guards her spring; the Nuberu, lord of storms, riding his cloud; the Home Pez, the fish-man of Liérganes; the mouros in their buried city; the Güestia, the procession of lost souls that passes in the dark looking for someone to take; and the Ojáncanu, the one-eyed giant, at his forge. And at the very bottom, asleep on the ayalga, its treasure, lies the Cuélebre, the great winged serpent of Asturian legend. None of them is made up: the güelos, the grandparents of Asturias, have been telling tales about them for generations.

Six classes and eight pets

Hewer, shotfirer, lampman, piper, timberman and coal picker: each class has its own way of attacking, its own special ability and something it's immune to. And you never go down alone: the canary, the mastiff, the ramidreju (a magical little creature that can smell gold), the hen and the rest of the pets have four tricks each, and on every run you pick two of them to bring along. The ones you're missing are trapped in the mine, waiting for someone to come down and rescue them.

And up top, the chigre

At the chigre, the good old cider house, you spend what you haul out of the mine on cider and fabada, the Asturian bean stew, and the Codex keeps a record of everything you see. The Diañu, the mocking devil of legend, offers you deals he always collects on. And he laughs at you. He always laughs.

Ten floors, ten bosses plus the Cuélebre, twenty-five monsters and twelve weapons that evolve.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I made Ayalga on my own. I'm a multidisciplinary creative with 20 years in the trade as a creative director and graphic designer; I've also worked as a 2D artist, UI designer and game designer, and I make music. AI is the tool that lets me bring these ideas to life with quality, and without it a game like this wouldn't have been viable for one person in their spare time. This is not AI for making "AI slop". The game's pixel art, music and translations were made with an AI assistant (Claude, by Anthropic), and I directed, tested and corrected them over and over, with care and more hours than you can imagine. The arrangement of «Santa Bárbara bendita» in the credits is my own. The store art was generated with Magnific from the game's own sprites. No AI generates content while you play.
