About This Game

Disk Defragmenter is a nostalgic incremental game inspired by Windows 98. Move your mouse to put scattered fragments back in place and turn messy disks into neat bands of color. Earn bytes and upgrade your read head, progressing from one block at a time to clearing whole patches in a single sweep.

Sort, upgrade, and speed up

Move your mouse to read fragments without holding a button. Widen your read head, read more blocks at once, or let auto-cursors help. As you progress, unlock overclocking, chain reactions, and active skills: press W to sort an entire file or Q to release a fragment shockwave.

Open the upgrade panel at any time while sorting. Both the disk and the challenge timer pause while you choose your upgrades, then resume when you close it.

Beat the clock or take your time

Timed challenges begin at the fourth computer. Finish sorting before the countdown ends to clear the disk. If you fail, the disk resets, but you keep the bytes you earned and the upgrades you bought for your next attempt.

Revisit earlier disks to earn rewards, and complete a Replay Tour for an extra bonus. Prefer a slower pace? Enable Casual mode in Settings to play through the main game without a time limit.

Ten computers, over thirty years of life

From a 1998 floppy and a college dorm laptop to your parents’ old computer and a family archive in 2032, ten computers trace one ordinary person’s life.

Recover and open 80 story files: school reports, chat logs, a wedding guest list, and more. These fragments gradually piece together a life, ending with a letter to the future.

Each computer brings different sorting challenges. Clear duplicate files, stop viruses from spreading, repair bad sectors, and coordinate mirrored read heads. Later disks offer more than just extra space to sort.

Keep playing after the ending

After completing the main game, reinstall the system and spend restore points on permanent BIOS boosts for a new playthrough. You can also select challenge modifiers for greater difficulty and rewards.

There are also daily challenges, commissions from six friends, and 23 in-game achievements.

Free demo

The demo includes the first five computers and 40 story files. Try the upgrade system, duplicate cleanup, virus removal, and timed challenges. Daily challenges become available after you clear the fourth computer.

Supports English and Simplified Chinese. Use the mouse for basic sorting and the keyboard for unlocked active skills.

This game never scans or modifies your real files. It only saves game progress and settings.
