About This Game

You watched it as a kid. Now it’s your turn.

Disk Defragmenter is a nostalgic, Windows 98-inspired incremental game. Move your mouse, and wherever the read head passes, fragments fly back where they belong. The messy disk slowly turns into neat bands of color as fragmentation drops from 37% to 0%.

Every sweep pays off Each block that snaps into place clicks and earns space. Finish a file and its whole band lights up, the drive cools down, and you can keep sweeping. No need to hold a button. Just move.

Upgrades you can feel A bigger head, more read channels, background auto-cursors, and a right-click that sorts a whole file at once. On the same disk, you start reading one block at a time and end up clearing huge areas in a single pass.

Timed challenges from the fourth computer Finish before the clock runs out to clear the disk. Fail, and you keep your earnings and upgrades, so you can come back stronger. Return to old disks to beat your best time and earn stars. Prefer no pressure? Enable Casual mode in Settings; it takes effect the next time you enter a disk.

Ten computers, thirty years of one life A 1998 floppy, the family’s first PC, a dorm laptop, a first work computer, your parents’ old desktop… All 80 files you recover can be opened: chat logs, exam results, a wedding guest list. Together they tell the story of an ordinary life, and end with a letter to the future.

New trouble on every machine Duplicate copies, ransomware, burst photos, spreading bad sectors, a mirrored head, master indexes and three-generation partitions. Seven unique mechanics keep later disks from simply getting bigger.
