What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Prime Rail Control is a simulator built for railway and signalling enthusiasts, and that community's feedback is the best way to get the details right. Early Access lets us grow the content — more stations, signalling systems and scenarios — and refine the simulation with real players before the full 1.0 release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on community feedback and the scope of features we add. We'd rather ship a polished 1.0 than rush it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add more prebuilt stations and scenarios, additional signalling and dispatcher features, expanded emergency handling, refined scoring, Steam Cloud saves and further quality-of-life improvements. The core simulation is already in place — Early Access focuses on breadth and polish.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable, with 22 routes in 11 countries and a training station. Dispatching from four interlocking desk styles (relay, numeric-choice and two screen-based electronic interlockings) or from the track view; track editor with OpenStreetMap import, scenario editor with traffic generator and timetable graph, possessions with written orders, faults with procedure-based handling, winter weather, scoring, saved runs and multi-monitor support. Interface in 12 languages. The screenshots and description reflect what is included today.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we add content and approach the full release. Buying during Early Access gets you the lowest price and directly supports development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll gather feedback through the Steam community hub and discussions, prioritise fixes and features based on player input, and pay attention to the stations and scenarios players most want to see. Community suggestions will directly shape the roadmap.”

About This Game

What you do

You are the dispatcher of a station or a stretch of line. Trains ask to enter at the edges of your area; you accept them, set their routes and send them on according to the timetable. Nothing moves without a route you have set, and the interlocking checks every route as a real one does: occupied tracks, conflicting routes, points locked under a train.

Routes

22 routes in 11 countries — Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Italy, the United Kingdom and the USA — most of them built from OpenStreetMap data, each with a timetable scenario. A small training station takes you through the first steps.

Interlocking desks

The same station can be worked from a relay push-button desk, a numeric-choice desk, a screen-based electronic interlocking in Central European style or one in German style, or directly from the track view. Signals follow the rules of the selected country.

Operations

  • Entry requests, train acceptance and neighbouring dispatchers who may postpone a train
  • Shunting, locomotive run-rounds, bankers and light engines
  • Possessions with written orders you sign before the shift
  • Faults of points, track circuits, signals, power supply and level crossings, each with its handling procedure
  • Winter: frozen points, point heating, icy rails
  • Scoring and a delay breakdown for every train
  • Saved runs, timetable graph and multi-monitor setup

Build your own

Track editor with OpenStreetMap import, scenario editor with timetable graph, interval-timetable assistant, GTFS import and traffic generator, and an event editor for possessions. Routes, scenarios and possessions can be shared on Steam Workshop (in testing).
