About This Game

Until the Rain is a strategy game about wildfires, played on miniature dioramas of national parks and wild landscapes. Every few seconds, the flames spread. You have time to think, but never enough crews to cover everything.

You won't save it all. You just need to hold out until the rain comes.

Every few seconds, the fire spreads

The game moves in ticks. With each tick, fires grow and jump, your crews fight what they can reach, and money comes in. Between ticks, you're free to act, and you can pause whenever you need to. It's about making the right calls, not clicking faster.

Learn to read the fire

Pine forests catch quickly, meadows take longer, and rocks and water stop the flames. Fire climbs uphill twice as fast, and a full blaze can throw embers far ahead of the fireline.

You can see where those embers will land one tick in advance. The wind changes at briefings, and you get advance warning before it turns.

Pay attention to the landscape. Sometimes the best place to stop a fire isn't where it's burning right now.

Your crews fight. You make the calls.

Trucks fight fires automatically, with predictable results and no dice rolls. A Brush Truck knocks down one fire stage per tick, an Engine two, and a Tanker three. You decide where they stand, when they refill, and when it's time to pull back.

Choose from nine vehicle types, including Hand Crews that can climb steep slopes, Dozers that cut firebreaks, and the Canadair water bomber.

Build where it counts

Where you place your Command Post changes everything.

Build beside a lake so your trucks can refill without long trips. Set up at a crossroads, and they can reach more of the park. Or build closer to the fire, where the rewards are greater but so is the risk.

Expand with Vehicle Bays, Radio Rooms and Supply Depots. Out in the field, water towers, hose lines, and firebreaks can turn the tide.

Remember, your defenses can burn, too.

Make the most of each briefing

Every fifteen ticks, time stops for a briefing. The wind may shift, the next fire is announced, and you choose one of three cards to help you handle what's coming.

Call in a helicopter or an air tanker when your crews are overwhelmed. Or start a backfire to save a ridge before the flames reach it.

A good plan can save the day. A shift in the wind can ruin it.

You can't save everything

Villages provide income at every briefing while they're still standing. Hikers need to get off the map, campgrounds need evacuating, and a sawmill can go up in flames before you know it.

Every decision comes at a cost. Protect a village, or send your last truck to stop the flames spreading through the forest?

When the rain arrives, you win. But lose your Command Post, two villages, or too much forest, and the park is lost.

Take what you've earned into the next park

Play through a region's parks, one mission after another. Your fleet, cards, and building blueprints carry over. So do your losses. A truck destroyed in one park won't be there to help you in the next.

Earn medals, raise the difficulty, and return to familiar landscapes with a different plan.
