About This Software

XRCADE is a project built on love and respect for iconic games in video game history, with the aim of naturally extending those experiences into XR. Players will be able to step all the way into a game’s world through VR—or bring it into the real world through AR. To achieve this goal, XRCADE offers the best possible experience for each carefully selected game, refined with dedication and attention to detail.

Simple and Intuitive

XRCADE aims to eliminate all the friction that comes with using an emulator. You no longer need to sit in an aircraft cockpit full of gauges and controls just to enjoy a familiar favorite. With XRCADE, anyone can step into the games they love in just three simple steps, without having to look up instructions. You don’t even need to insert coins during gameplay, and all the settings are intuitive.

Faithful to the Original

The weapon models attached to your controllers are extracted from each game’s ROM in real time. XRCADE is not one of the so-called “recomp” projects that have recently become so widespread. Its aim is to go beyond adapting individual games for VR and provide a unified, consistent experience that expands on the original works while respecting them. That is why XRCADE uses only weapon models from within each game’s own world, rather than gun models from “outside” it.

Thoughtfully Enhanced

Improvements go beyond fixing issues in existing emulators. Bugs and graphical issues originating in the games themselves have also been addressed, and some games have been enhanced to offer a more satisfying experience without compromising the original.

1. In Silent Scope, the level-of-detail (LOD) behavior that made distant enemies look like “tombstones” or “rugs” has been removed. In Crisis Zone, an issue in certain sections of the original game that left bullet holes hidden behind walls has been fixed. Other depth-related rendering issues have also been resolved through game-specific adjustments.
2. In the Virtua Cop series, shotguns now fire a five-pellet spread instead of a single projectile, Magnum rounds can penetrate enemies, and an option lets players switch weapons freely during gameplay.
3. In some games, completing the game once unlocks the option to use powerful weapons wielded by its bosses.
4. The Silent Scope series offers an option to disable the on-screen aiming reticle, making the experience more realistic and dramatically increasing the difficulty.
5. Time Crisis II and Crisis Zone offer an optional dynamic action mode with fully functional 6DoF gameplay, nicknamed “Keisatsukanize.” In this mode, players can physically move to dodge bullets or find gaps through which to shoot enemies. In Crisis Zone, players can also wield the shield directly with their own hand.
6. Every game lets you pause time during gameplay and freely explore its world.
7. Accessibility options are available for left-handed players and those who are sensitive to flashing effects. You can also turn off the game’s background music to listen to your own music while playing, or to make it easier to add a soundtrack to your game recordings.
8. Planned additions include in-game dialogue localization into 100 languages, AR gameplay for selected games, and preloaded worlds.

A New Way In

XRCADE is an independently developed emulator. No game ROMs are included. To play a supported title, just drag and drop your own compatible ROM files into XRCADE. Currently supported games:
