About This Game

Welcome, Subject 03.

I've been expecting you.

You will now be participating in four psychological experiments.

Oh, there's nothing difficult about them.

All you have to do is follow your heart and decide how to use your kindness.

You may save someone. You may abandon them.

You may even put yourself first... though, of course, you will have to take responsibility for your actions.

Heh.

Oh, don't mind me. I'll simply be observing the choices you make.

...Now then.

I wonder what kind of person you really are.

Experiment 01: The Trolley Problem

You're familiar with the trolley problem, aren't you?

An out-of-control trolley is speeding down the tracks.

Five workers are standing in its path. If you do nothing, all five will die.

You can pull a lever to divert the trolley, but there's one worker on the other track who will die instead.

A famous thought experiment, certainly... but isn't it rather absurd?

Deciding who lives and dies while standing somewhere perfectly safe. How very privileged of you.

And that's when I had an idea.

Why not put you in the very same position?

For example...

Your right eye, or the life of your beloved little sister.

Now then, which will you save?

You can't choose either one?

Not to worry!

I've even prepared a rescue button for people like you. Heh.

Experiment 02: Hide-and-Seek

Do you enjoy hide-and-seek?

This time, there will be five participants hiding, including you.

Unfortunately, there are only four lockers to hide in.

I'll be playing the seeker.

There are five rounds in total. Whoever is caught at the end will, regrettably, have to die.

In other words, an 80% chance of survival!

A simple game, wouldn't you agree? Heh.

...Oh, and one more thing.

Even if you're found, there's no need to panic.

Simply tell me where another subject is hiding, and I'll spare you.

Of course, you may choose to save someone else instead.

Though in that case, you'll be the one who gets caught.

Now then, who will you save, and who will you hand over?

Experiment 03: Please Help Me

I'll give you 20 Kindness Points.

Over the next seven days, you will interact with four prisoners.

Each has a record of their crimes... but why don't you hear what they have to say first?

A blanket. A phone call.

...Please. Help me.

Helping them will cost you some of your Kindness Points.

But don't worry.

If a prisoner thanks you, you'll get a little of that kindness back.

Of course, you're perfectly free to help no one at all.

Who will you choose to show kindness to, and how much?

I'll leave everything up to you.

Heh. Being a kind person must be exhausting.

Experiment 04: The Elevator

It seems the elevator has stopped.

There's no need to worry. It happens quite often in this elevator.

Oh, and before I forget, we do have food and water.

Just enough for the two of us—you and me—to survive until we reach the first floor.

The elevator descends one floor each day.

Along the way, we may encounter people begging to be let inside.

Of course, whether you let them in is entirely up to you.

However... the more people we have, the more food and water we'll need.

Now then, I wonder how many people you'll manage to bring safely to the first floor.

A Different Experiment Every Time

Oh, that's right.

There's one little detail I forgot to mention.

Each of the four experiments contains randomized elements.

The questions you're asked, the information the subjects possess, the people you encounter...

Even when you repeat the same experiment, things won't necessarily play out the same way.

Heh.

56 Different Endings

Your choices will lead you to one of 56 different endings.

Every ending you discover will be saved in your Experiment Records.

I've even prepared hints for the endings you haven't discovered yet.

Of course, there's no need to see them all.

But... if your curiosity gets the better of you, I'll be more than happy to torment you again and again. Heh.

Now then, Subject 03.

Can you be kind?

To yourself. And to others.
