About This Game

Soccer Tactics is a digital adaptation of a tabletop turn-based football game with an isometric view. The player controls a team of 11 footballer pieces, taking turns with individual units.

Each piece has its own personal footballer card. It features the character’s image and lists the in-game skills that determine what that unit can do on the field.

Every match begins with a draft of footballer cards. The number of cards available in the game is limited, and before each match every player receives 14 footballers to build a squad: 11 starters and 3 substitutes.

The outcome of in-game situations is determined by action cards. This is one of the core mechanics of the original tabletop game, carried over into the digital version. The result of an action is determined directly within this card-based system rather than by a hidden random calculation running “under the hood.”

Soccer Tactics features two tournament formats: league and cup. They are combined into a campaign spanning 30 seasons.

Before starting a campaign, existing teams can be edited: you can change their names, kit colors, and potential strength. This allows you to customize the campaign lineup and the balance of strength between teams before the first season begins.

At its core, Soccer Tactics retains the principles of the tabletop game published by its creators several years ago: the playing field, footballer pieces, personal cards, action cards, drafting, and sequential turn-based team control. The computer version brings this game system into a digital format while preserving the core mechanics and structure of the original tabletop game.

It is important not to view Soccer Tactics as a miniature or simplified model of real football.

At its foundation is the mechanics of a tabletop strategy game. It was originally designed around the possibilities of a physical playing field, game pieces, cards, and a set of abstract rules. The computer version preserves this foundation.

Imagine ordinary checkers pieces with images of footballers placed on them. That does not turn the pieces into living people, nor does it turn the game itself into football. They remain game pieces that move and interact according to the rules of their own game.

The same principle applies in Soccer Tactics.

What you see on the playing field are footballer pieces, not footballers. Their movement, distances, interactions, limitations, and other game mechanics are determined by Soccer Tactics’ own rules, not by the need to reproduce a real football match.

Therefore, Soccer Tactics is not a traditional football simulator and is not an attempt to reproduce real football on a smaller scale.

It is more accurate to view it as an independent tabletop strategy game brought to life in digital form and presented with a football theme.

To reduce the idea to one simple metaphor: at its core, these are essentially checkers in the shape of footballers.

The fundamental differences between Soccer Tactics and real football are defined first and foremost by the nature of the game itself.

As for the degree of similarity, every player will see and feel it differently depending on their own football experience, perception of the game, tastes, and expectations. The same in-game situations may feel very close to reality to one person and considerably more abstract to another.

Soccer Tactics remains an independent game with its own logic and its own rules, while the degree to which it resembles real football is something each player can decide for themselves.
