What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Pentatile's core building and discovery tools are playable, and we want players' creations and feedback to guide the next stage. Early Access lets us refine the rules, controls, and shared collections while people explore the game. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Our current target for leaving Early Access is early 2027. We want to learn what players enjoy and use their feedback to guide improvements. If community interest and feedback point to meaningful changes that need more time, we may extend Early Access to continue refining the game. This is an estimate rather than a fixed release date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We would like to refine the building rules, improve the interface and controller experience, and develop more ways to explore and share discoveries. Those plans may change as we learn from the alpha. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The alpha includes tile placement, enclosed-space discovery, animated flood filling, a shared compendium, personal shape and board libraries, and board save/import and sharing. Some interfaces are still being refined, and rules or import limits may change. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pentatile is planned as a free game. We may consider optional purchases later, but there are no purchases in this alpha. ”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can share boards, submit named discoveries to the moderated compendium, and provide feedback through the game's Steam community. We want to learn which patterns, tools, and rules make exploration most enjoyable. ”

About This Game

Grow something unexpected

Five diamonds meet in a star. What happens next is up to you.

Pentatile is a geometric sandbox about growth and discovery. Place tiles along the edges of your mosaic and watch a simple seed become something surprising: a curling creature, a crystalline tower, or a pattern you never planned.

The spaces between are part of the game

Your tiles create enclosed spaces. Fill them with your available shapes, or discover a new shape that can change how your mosaic grows. Use the flood tool to place connected copies one by one. Tiny discoveries become unique Black Diamonds: special pieces you can collect, but cannot duplicate.

Build your own collection

Keep discoveries in your personal library. Browse the shared compendium, find approved names and their explorers, and bring eligible shapes into your active collection. Submit a named discovery for moderation to help expand the public compendium; submissions are limited to one per explorer every 24 hours.

Share what you make

Save and import your boards as files, or sign in to keep builds in your cloud library and share a link that opens your creation on Pentatile's website. Connect your Steam identity to an existing web account to access the same personal collection.

A growing experiment

This alpha focuses on building, collecting, and finding unexpected geometry. Rules and tools are still evolving. Come explore, show us what you make, and help shape where Pentatile grows next.
