What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is already playable from start to finish. But a strategy game like this depends on its balance and on how the AI behaves, and those can only be tuned well once many players have run many campaigns. As a solo developer, I want to hear how real campaigns play out before I call the game finished, and use that feedback to decide what to improve first.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to stay in Early Access for about six months. This may change depending on the feedback I receive.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full version I plan to add player-chosen commands during duels, more officer dialogue, surprise visit events with choices, and ways to communicate with your officers. I also plan to keep improving the strategic AI, battle balance, and interface based on player feedback. These are plans rather than promises, and priorities may shift with feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains the complete game loop. It includes 7 historical scenarios from 190 to 227 plus a guided tutorial scenario, 610 officers, city management, personnel, diplomacy in the audience hall, schemes and spies, field battles with officer tactics and duels, and endings. It supports English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, and can be played with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad. Balance and AI still have rough edges.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to raise the price at full release as content and features are added.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I read the Steam Discussions and reviews, and the game has a built-in bug report button that sends a report straight to me. I will post patch notes with every update and explain which feedback led to which change.”

About This Game

Field battles fought by paper soldiers

Lead armies represented by paper soldiers and use the terrain to your advantage. Fire attacks, ambushes, and flank attacks change the course of a battle, and officers' tactics appear as paper-cut cut-ins. Generals settle things one on one in duels.

Diplomacy in the audience hall

Rulers receive envoys in the audience hall. Propose non-aggression pacts, or answer proposals from other rulers. With your strategist's counsel you can accept or demand gold, but even a pact you have made can be broken. Some alliances come from historical events, such as the one between Sun Quan and Liu Bei before the Battle of Red Cliffs. AI rulers also use diplomacy and schemes.

Seven main scenarios from 190 to 227

The Coalition Against Dong Zhuo, Warlords Contend, the Battle of Guandu, Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage, the Battle of Red Cliffs, the Struggle for Hanzhong, and the Memorial on Deploying the Troops. All 610 officers are placed according to when they appear in the historical record and whom they served at the time. Officers debut and die year by year, so the pool of talent keeps changing.

At a glance

  • All scenarios and difficulty levels available from the start
  • Supports English, 한국어, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 日本語
  • Gamepad and Steam Deck controls, keyboard shortcuts
  • Plays without an internet connection

For newcomers

A separate tutorial scenario, "The Yellow Turban Rebellion of 184," starts you as Liu Bei. You search for officers, recruit, conscript, train, sortie, and manage a city in turn, with guidance on what to press at each step. You can turn the guide off at any time.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools were used during development to help create pre-made content: officer portraits, map and interface artwork, music and sound effects, and drafts of in-game text and its translations. All of it was selected and edited by the developer. The game does not generate any content with AI while you play.
