What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Hold Morale is built around modules, retrofit kits, relays and the synergies between them. There are far too many combinations for me to balance on my own as a solo developer. That is why I want to work together with the community: your feedback on what is too strong, too weak or simply not fun will shape the balance of the game. Early Access lets us do exactly that, while the game keeps growing with new content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I’m aiming for less than a year, but I’d rather not make promises. It depends on how much new content still comes in and how quickly we get the balance right together.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will include all the content I originally planned for Hold Morale, and it will be balanced together with the community. At the start of Early Access, not all of that content may be in the game yet. It will be added step by step. Planned for the full version are three worlds (forest, desert and snow) with bosses, five playable commanders, around 120 modules and 34 relays.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Hold Morale is in active development. A free demo is already available on Steam: it contains the complete first world (Forest) with its boss, the commander Sterling, the full roguelite campaign map with events and the black market, five retrofit kits, 80 modules and the first relays. The Early Access version builds on this and will add more worlds, commanders and content over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will increase slightly with the full release. Joining during Early Access is the cheapest way to get Hold Morale, and it supports the development directly.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is the main reason Hold Morale is in Early Access. I will read every message and look into every bug report and every balance issue you send me. There is a feedback button right in the game, in the main menu and the pause menu, that sends your report together with a match ID, so I can replay your exact game and see what went wrong. You can also find me on our Discord server and in the Steam forums, where I’m happy to talk about ideas, balance and anything else. Regular patch notes will show what changed because of your feedback. I want to build this game together with you.”

About This Game

Command a campaign, not just a battle

Hold Morale blends demanding grid tactics with the strategic depth of a roguelite. Every campaign takes you across a branching war map full of decisions: fight standard battles, risk strikes against elite troops, recover at rest camps, or trade morale for rare gear on the black market before you face the boss at the end of the road. Your route decides your supplies, your risks, and your victory.

Morale is your lifeline

Forget classic health bars: your morale decides the fate of the entire campaign.
  • Every loss hurts: Lose a unit and your morale drops. Losing a heavy tank weighs far more than losing a simple scout.
  • Second chance: A lost battle isn't the end. As long as your troops still have fight left in them, you can retry the mission.
  • Front collapse: If your morale hits zero, your campaign is over for good.

Classic grid tactics

  • 21 unit types: Command infantry, tanks, heavy artillery, rocket launchers, attack helicopters, fighters, submarines, and massive battleships.
  • Use the terrain: Forests and mountains provide vital cover, rivers slow the enemy advance, and roads get your columns up to speed.
  • Fuel and ammo: Logistics win wars. Let your tanks run dry and they're left stranded in the open.
  • Frontline economy: Capture cities and factories to grow your budget and roll fresh reinforcements off the line during battle.
  • Optional fog of war: Go into battle with clear vision, or turn on thick fog for real reconnaissance risk.

Retrofit kits and synergies

Configure your units right as you build them with five specialized retrofit kits: Steel Core, Incendiary Charge, EMP, Reactive Armor, and Turbo Drive.
  • Double synergies: Combine two kits to unlock one of ten synergies that drastically change how your unit fights.
  • Triple synergies: A third slot lets you bend the rules completely: ram enemy tanks straight into the water, fire again right after a kill, or knock your target out with a guaranteed stun.
  • Second life: Any unit carrying three kits survives its first fatal hit.

Build your campaign

  • More than 80 modules: Change the rules for your entire campaign. Stack module effects, discover unexpected synergies, and build overpowered combos.
  • Tactical supplies: Grab repair kits, devastating rocket strikes, or forced marches for turns that seem hopeless.
  • Commander levels: Pick your commander with a unique special ability and unlock new ranks across multiple campaigns.
  • Permanent progression: Gradually unlock new units, experimental retrofit kits, and curated module packs.

A living battlefield

Fight across an atmospheric low poly map with dynamic weather, drifting cloud shadows, and lively wildlife. But don't let the idyll fool you: wherever heavy artillery and explosives hit, only scorched earth remains.
