About This Demo

The world is nearly uninhabitable, divided by warring feudal territories and marked by many unnatural disasters. The wanderer, known through rumors only as "The Woman," has been searching for a place to comfortably fade away into obscurity. She is a social pariah since she is often encountered trying to fill the void with drugs, alcohol, and senseless violence.

Engage in 2.5D hack-and-slash action seamlessly mixed with first-person shooting, inspired by No More Heroes and Killer7. Choices matter? Find the exit. You are hysterically strong.

COMBAT

• Bludgeon or tear through enemies with combos from Scivias, an ancient blade, or use your bare hands to send 'em flying. 

• There is no problem a gun can't solve. Dream Thief is a top-break revolver with a second cylinder for swapping magic sigils.

• Common drugs and alcohol can alter combat, especially your secret stash of a mysterious black liquid that induces an invincible berserker state. Trivializes any combat section but permanently weakens you afterwards.

EXPLORATION

• Talk to a cast of colorful characters.

• There are many characters to talk to, but The Woman lacks diplomatic dialogue options.

The developers describe the content like this:

The game's setting is a world and its people recovering from decades of catastrophes, shaped by survival and many societal changes.
Sexual Content: Sexual content of any kind will be featured very little, with no visual depictions of nudity. However, there will be implications and discussion of sexual acts between adults, both consensual and nonconsensual, but mainly of sexual abuse. Misogyny is a major theme, considering the title Hysterical Strength is meant to convey the misogyny inherit in the term's historical use and etymology.
Violence: Implications of extreme violence, and depictions of the aftermath of violence. Acts of violence will be somewhat censored with stylizations, so gory and bloody scenes will mainly be unrealistic i.e. showing only silhouettes during deathblows or non-red blood/gore. Violence towards fictional monsters and cryptids, but no depictions of acts of violence towards animals. There will be implied violence towards animals like showing animal skins or meat that was hunted for food.

Drugs and Alcohol Abuse: Drugs and alcohol are depicted often and in various forms, fictional and realistic drug use, as addiction is a narrative theme of Hysterical Strength as well as a fundamental gameplay mechanic. The main playable character is struggling with addiction, but the player can complete the game keeping the main character sober. Some characters and in-game depictions will favorably portray alcohol and drugs, but most are negative and the message of the game reflects this.
Crime: Laws/crime and money are all of the past, but concepts akin to them are present in small communities. There are depictions of acts that would be considered crimes in reality.
